5th and final model I have worked on during my first year at LEGO! This one is a bit of a special case as I wasn't originally assigned to the set, but I was brought in to help crack the technical challenges on this model so that Markus can further push for all the cool details and functions you now see on the NINJAGO CITY Markets. I was super happy as I have been quite excited for this model since day one - an actually transforming bike without rebuilding! :D
This model is also a true embodiment of teamwork in LEGO sets, not only because I got to finalize the model alongside with Markus, but even before we settled on this final look for the mech (from Dimitris), there were dozens of different attempts by almost every designer on the team with the concept. It has been a truly eye-opening and humbling experience for my first year as a LEGO designer to see how much effort can be involved behind this relatively small mech model, and I'm just happy to be part of it. :)[4]
Trivia[]
- This is the third Ninjago set which can be built in two different ways, the first two being 71707 Kai's Mech Jet and 71786 Zane's Ice Dragon Creature.
- It, however, is the first of these to be able to transform without being taken apart and rebuilt.
- The set was a challenge for the design team, as it had to be stable enough for play. Dimitrios Stamatis conceptualized the initial design, while designers Chi Wing Lee and Markus Rollbühler completed the build.[2][1] Lee was brought on late in production to assist while Rollbühler worked on 71799 Ninjago City Markets.[1]
