Synopsis
When Nya loses control of her elemental powers, the ninja search for answers, which may lie with the former master of water, Nya’s mother.[1]
Extended: The ninjas ambush a new villain named Miss Demeanour who's carrying a shipment of illegal vengestone - Nya creates a water cyclone to stop her but loses control of it, threatening a nearby village. The ninjas save the residents but Miss Demeanour escapes - meanwhile, Nya's powers continue to go haywire at the monastery. Against her wishes, Kai calls in the help of their mother Maya.[2]
Plot

Miss Demeanor and her henchmen
Many trucks arrive at a remote village driven by a bunch of crooks who are being led by Miss Demeanor. Unfortunately for them, the ninja have already anticipated their arrival as Lloyd, Jay and Kai confront them. Oddly enough, Miss Demeanor is excited to meet them as she sends the bandits to keep them busy as she escapes. Cole is able to take out two of the trucks pulling away with his Rock Cycle, but fails to stop the truck Miss Demeanor is riding on. Cole inspects what was in the trucks and realizes they were holding Vengestone.

The flooded village
Nya and Zane run ahead and they former attempts to prevent Miss Demeanor from escaping by summoning a water cyclone from the village rice paddies. However, she has no control over the cyclone as it spirals out of control. Zane tries to freeze the cyclone but his attempts quickly backfire. The ninja are then forced to let Miss Demeanor escape as they evacuate the villagers from the cyclone just as it drops and floods the village.
With the village safe, the ninja return to the monastery with some of the Vengestone, and tell Wu the bad news of letting Miss Demeanor escape before Nya speaks up and takes full responsibility as she lost all control of her power, and promises it won't happen again. When the other ninja seemingly agree, Nya becomes annoyed, which causes the emergency sprinkler activates, short circuiting all the electronics.

A scroll featuring Wojira
The ninja and Master Wu sans Nya, examine one of the scrolls in the library regarding the power of water to determine why Nya's powers are going haywire. On the scroll, it says that the power of Wind and Water originally belonged to Wojira, the serpent that ruled the seas of Ninjago with the Storm Amulet and the Wave Amulet.Unfortunately for Wojira, the First Spinjitzu Master, and the Merlopians defeated the serpent by removing the two amulets and Wojira fell into a deep slumber. Master Wu suggests that they call Maya, the previous master of water, to help Nya. Kai then nervously says that Nya won't want her parent's help since Nya is very independent. Zane then says that Kai and Nya's parents were forced to work for The Time Twins. Afterwards, Kai tells Nya, who is training in the courtyard, about their parent's potentially visiting the Monastery, which Nya furiously rejects.

While walking along the hallway, Nya passes by the bathroom, being cleaned by Jay, and the toilet suddenly bursts on him. She then sees the tap in the kitchen which ends up bursting on Zane, and the soda bottles bursting on Cole as Nya passes by the game room. Intent on leaving, Nya is stopped by the others, who try to speak to her, only to be interrupted by someone knocking at the gates. Nya gets it, discovering it is her parents. Maya greets her while Ray is carrying all their luggage before they leave to unpack. Realizing that her brother had gone against her wishes, Nya angrily confronts Kai, who can only shrug as he says 'What?'.

Trivia
- Narrator: Nya
- In the Japanese version of the episode, the narrator is Jay instead of Nya.
- Wu's line, "Vengestone has few practical uses," was first revealed by Tommy Andreasen in the live-chat of The TTV Channel's NinjagoCast #4.[3]
- The design of the water tornado created by Nya is the same as the design of the Spinjitzu Burst in "The Son of Lilly."
Cultural references
- The scene in which Wu and the ninja look for a scroll about Wojira is very similar to the scene from Kung Fu Panda 3, when Master Shifu was looking for a scroll about Kai.
Continuity
- This is Miss Demeanor's first appearance.
- This is also the first time Ray, Maya, and the rice farmers have appeared in the WildBrain animation.
- Although Ray appears in the episode, his design is not visible as he is wrapped in luggage.
- Ray and Maya's return marks the continuation of WildBrain's streak of introducing older characters in each new installment, following:
- The Mechanic, Ultra Violet, Captain Soto, Killow, Nelson, and Skales' returns in Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu.
- Cyrus Borg's return in Prime Empire.
- The Postman, Misako, and Lou's (only in a flashback for the latter) returns in Master of the Mountain.
- Ronin's return in The Island.
- This is also the first time Ray, Maya, and the rice farmers have appeared in the WildBrain animation.
- This episode continues the Vengestone plotline first set up in "The Skull Sorcerer."
- The library in the monastery, which first appeared in "Shintaro", has a bigger role here.
- Krux is mentioned for the first time since "Lost in Time."
- The power of Wind is acknowledged for the first time since Hunted.
- The First Spinjitzu Master is confirmed to have mastered all Elemental Powers besides Wind and Water. "The Invitation" and The Book of Spinjitzu previously stated that he had given the Elemental Masters their powers, but before this episode, it was unknown whether he himself had mastered all the elements.
- A version of the Samurai X theme plays when Nya trains in the monastery courtyard. This is the first time this theme has been associated with Nya since P.I.X.A.L. took over the role of Samurai X.
- The Kai and Nya family theme from season 7 was played in the background when Wu mentions Maya.
- The animation of Zane trying to freeze the water was reused from "Grief-Bringer", when he tried to freeze Grief-Bringer.
- This was most likely done to reduce time, as most of the season was produced with crew members working from home, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4]
- The flood in the farmers' village slightly foreshadows the Great Flood, when the whole Ninjago City was flooded.
Errors
- When the ninja confront Miss Demeanor, the tassel on Lloyd's golden sword was stiff.
- Towards the end of the episode, when Ray and Maya arrive at the Monastery, some of the suit cases are slightly clipping through each other for a moment.
- When Maya talks to Nya about her problem, if the scene is in slow motion, for a brief moment when Maya finishes saying they'll work it out the scene appears to come to a stand still, and her left arm, and small part of her hair and face starts glitch away.
