Balee was one of Mindaro's creations, who is a hybrid between a monkey and a dog.
History[]
Background[]
At some point in time, Balee was painted and brought to life by Mindaro through the use of the latter's Magic. Mindaro had been experimenting with bringing painted beings into the real world, and Balee was one of his starting experiments, being a smaller creature.
Following the disappearance of his creator and one of his creator's daughters, Balee continued to serve as a loyal pet to Mindaro's other daughter, Peri. For the next three years, Balee assisted Peri in luring travelers and warriors to their villa, where Peri would then transport them into Mindaro's paintings in an effort to combat The Chroma, a monster that had taken her father and sister captive inside one of the portraits.
The Chroma's Clutches (flashback)[]
On a foggy day, Balee encountered two traveling brothers, Wu and Garmadon, making their way across the mountain. Emerging from the fog, Balee made his presence known and encouraged the brothers to follow him, leading them to Peri's villa where they decided to stay the night. Peri later praised Balee for bringing the brothers to her after she learned that they were ninja, petting his head while calling him a "good boy," much to Garmadon's confusion.
The next morning, Balee accompanied Peri and the brothers on the villa's balcony for breakfast, briefly chattering, "Beware! Beware!" though Peri handwaved his chatter as him just being silly.
Later, following the Chroma's destruction, Peri instructed Balee to help guide the freed past warriors down the mountain and Balee later joined Peri, Indi, and Mindaro in waving goodbye to Wu and Garmadon as they continued their journey.
Official description[]
This unusual creature—who is half-monkey, half-dog—finds Wu and Garmadon in the fog of the mountain vegetation and leads them to Peri’s house. Balee also has the ability to speak, but Wu isn’t sure if the mon-dog just repeats what he hears or has thoughts of his own.
