The Battle on the Dark Island is an event that happened some time after Jay's final wish.
Freeing the Sky Pirates from their prisons around the realms, Clouse set them to work kidnapping fishermen as a workforce for mining the inert troves of Dark Matter on the island left undisturbed after The Overlord's return. With enough dark matter, Clouse wanted to unite the Dark Island and Ninjago under his rule, but was defeated by Wu in his father's mech.
History[]
Prelude[]
Master Wu, while meditating on the past victories of the Ninja, recalls recent events of fishermen disappearing out in the Endless Sea, an incident which prompted Misako to investigate, accompanied by Ronin. However, his meditations are soon interrupted when a villager reports Misako's ship, having been found wrecked on the coast and abandoned.
Concerned, Wu gathers the rest of the ninja, training in the Samurai X Cave, to help him. Investigating the ship, he discovers a message hidden by Misako, just before she was kidnapped- a message warning him of pirates, and more importantly, telling Wu to stay away from the Island of Darkness at all costs. Undeterred by Misako's warnings, Wu and the Ninja gather on the Destiny's Bounty and fly off, with Wu noting of a secret crate that the Ninja are told as containing nothing more than tea, knowing it contains a secret that can help stop the evil he senses. However, while en route, a massive storm appears and wrecks the ship, scattering the Ninja and sending them crashing to the Island of Darkness below.
Later, exploring the caverns, Wu discovers Clouse, still a ghost after having his mortality revoked by Jay's last wish. Combating Clouse, Wu is quickly ensnared in chains of dark energy, even as Clouse gloats. Revealing how he escaped his cell within the Preeminent after Morro unleashed the Cursed Realm upon Stiix, Clouse, frustrated by his failure in retrieving the Teapot of Tyrahn, instead sought a new way to restore his power through the dark energies of the Island of Darkness. Succeeding, Clouse used his Magic to bring back the Sky Pirates from the Sixteen Realms. Threatening to banish them again should they not obey him, Clouse set them to work kidnapping fishermen as a workforce for mining the inert troves of Dark Matter on the island left undisturbed.
Triumphant, Clouse explains his plot saying that the Temple of Light as the source of light and good for the Island of Darkness, he intends to assault its defenses with countless amounts of Dark Matter, eventually overwhelming and corrupting the structure. With the single source of light now turned dark, both the Dark Island and Ninjago will be corrupted, with Clouse at its control.
Battle[]
Arriving at the Temple of Light, Master Wu witnesses Clouse pour the last trove of Dark Matter against the Temple of Light's defenses, even as the Ninja catch up to the scene. Its defenses failing, the Temple of Light begins to go dark, and empowered by the energies, Clouse summons his Shadow Army once more to assist the Sky Pirates in preventing the Ninja from ruining his plans. Meanwhile, the energies of the darkness cause both halves of Ninjago to drift towards each other, causing natural disasters and panic on both islands as they near the embrace of total darkness.
Disheartened by the imminent doom and their seeming defeat, the Ninja are encouraged by the arrival of Wu, who asks them to keep Clouse's army at bay. Even as both sides fight furiously, Misako helps Wu open the crate, revealing the restored Golden Mech. Shocked, Misako asks how it has returned, and Wu, noting it was made to last, wields it to battle. Bolstered by the power of Light, Wu easily shatters through the barrier of darkness now surrounding the Temple of Light, confronting Clouse.
Clouse, angered, summons his Shadows to him, having them converge into a duplicate of the Golden Mech, a shadow mech that he controls. Clashing with Wu, Clouse prematurely claims dominance for darkness, an arrogant illusion Wu shatters alongside the blade of the shadow mech. Destroying the shadows, Wu uses the power of the Golden Mech to disperse the darkness, purifying the Temple of Light.
Clouse, cursing Wu for interfering, realizes the presence of a vortex that begins dragging him in. Wu, showing leniency to the Ghostly Sorcerer, offers him help, but Clouse, having been driven mad by envy, anger, revenge, the Cursed Realm, Dark Matter, and his own ambitions, refuses, reasoning that he'd rather die than accept help from Wu, and lets himself be consumed.
As Light floods over the Dark Island, both halves of Ninjago drift apart back to their original positions. Defeated, the Sky Pirates are captured by the Ninja, who decide to send them to jail, as Clouse finds himself in the Underworld and surrounded by hostile Skulkin, ironically in the exact same position and fate that his nemesis, Garmadon, once suffered.
