"That's not what happened at all!"

Chen's Return is a web game for LEGO.com. It centers on Chen's return from the Cursed Realm and the ninja's journey to get rare golden artifacts to stop him and save the captured Wu.
Official description[]
Run for your life and collect the Golden Bricks to defeat the evil Master Chen![1]
Plot[]
The game first opens up to the player with what happened on the day of Chen's return. Master Wu was enjoying his tea, which unfortunately turned out to be Traveler's Tea, and accidentally opened up a portal to the Cursed Realm. Master Chen and some of his Anacondrai warriors immediately jump out of the portal and engage in a fight. Chen then uses his Staff of Elements to absorb all of Wu's powers. The ninja race out to see Chen's followers kidnap Wu and disappear into the portal. Chen himself mocks the ninja before disappearing off to take over Ninjago City.
After the fight, the ninja are seen discussing how to destroy Chen's staff and rescue Wu. Cole comments on needing their Golden Weapons to which Lloyd reminds him of how they lost them to Garmadon. Suddenly, the First Spinjitzu Master appears before them and announces that he can recreate the Golden Weapons if they can collect five rare Golden artifacts from Crashcourse Canyon, Jankikai Jungle, and Glacier Barrens. No sooner than later, the ninja leap into action.
Gameplay[]
The player is given the option to rewatch the story of the game. Upon entering the game, the player can scroll through 4 level screens, only able to enter the levels that have been unlocked.
Once the player has selected a level, they will use the arrow keys to move their character across mostly 3 lanes and jump over obsticles. The levels allow the player to collect studs to gain 1-ups and each level contains 4 golden bricks.
Level 1 the player must avoid regular Snakes, in level 2 the player must avoid the Stone Army and in level 3 the player must avoid Hypnobrai. To help with the player's race through each level, there are powerups such as a magnet to collect studs, an hour glass to slow down levels and a powerup that allows the ninja to build a vehicle. Once a level is complete, the player can move onto the next. Level 4, although not accessible through normal gameplay, is a boss fight against Chen after a short running section.

Trivia[]
- In the game, the ninja are in their Legacy (sleeveless) robes, except Zane, who is in his Legacy (deepstone) suit.
- Wu and the First Spinjitzu Master wear Temple robes, the First Spinjitzu Master's being a partially recolored version of Wu's.
- Despite appearing in a cutscene, Lloyd is not playable.
- The game has several inconsistencies with the show:
- The ninja still live in the Temple of Airjitzu, despite not living there since The Hands of Time.
- Chen and the Cursed Realm still exist, despite the Cursed Realm being destroyed and Chen was sent to the Departed Realm as of "Curseworld, Part II."
- The Staff of Elements still exists, despite being destroyed in "The Forgotten Element."
- The Stone Army are still alive, despite them all except for the Giant Stone Warrior being destroyed in "Rise of the Spinjitzu Master."
- The Serpentine are once again villainous, despite being reformed since "The Curse of the Golden Master."
- The Golden Weapons are stated to be destroyed by Garmadon, possibly a reference to "Wrong Place, Wrong Time," despite them being reconstructed from the Golden Armor in "Endings."
- Albeit after this game's release, the weapons were destroyed again as their powers took the form of the Golden Ultra Dragon in "Roots."
- The First Spinjitzu Master appears even though he died before the ninja met.
- His face is also very different from what is briefly shown in "Tick Tock" and in the Spinjitzu Brothers books.
- Jankikai Jungle is pictured as part of Ninjago even though it is part of the Dark Island.
- It is currently impossible to unlock the last level as there are only 4 out of the 5 Golden Bricks available to collect within the first two levels. However, overriding the game "unlocked" and "golden brick" parameters, using the inspect element, allows you to play the final level.
- The fight in Level 4 will not work if the player fails during the fight with one of the ninja. They will respawn but Chen will not, as his spawn trigger was passed.
