The monastery was the home of Chen and his students, Clouse and Garmadon, prior to his banishment to his island.
History[]
Spellbound (flashback)[]
During a duel between Garmadon and Clouse at the monastery, Chen mentions whoever wins this fight shall become his right hand and be granted lordship. This caused the two to become determined to win, with Garmadon cheating. However, Chen stated he did what he had to do to succeed.
Later, in the building, Chen shows Garmadon a love letter Wu wrote to Misako. At first, he was hesitant to write his name on it but Chen encouraged him to, both unaware about Clouse spying on them.
Shatterspin Issue 1 (flashback)[]
As Garmadon began to depart from the monastery, having decided to help his brother in the Serpentine War, he and Chen had one final, and tense, conversation outside the gates. During their conversation, Chen criticized Garmadon's decision to fight alongside Wu, believing that Garmadon's strength would only prolong the war into a stalemate, causing both sides to suffer. After Garmadon once again refused to join Chen and his intentions of assisting the Serpentine, Chen finally relented and gifted Garmadon with a scroll and an amulet. He then urged Garmadon to seek out the teachings of the Forbidden Five, retelling the legends of the Five and their powers, but not without warning him that none who had sought the power of the Five had ever returned.
