Plot
Garmadon, who was waiting for his pizza delivery, was surprised to see Lloyd and Wu before he lets them in his apartment. Wu then begins to question Garmadon about the latter's presence in the city right under his nose. After helping the Ninja defeat the Oni, Garmadon went to find out what it meant to have life, even scaring some kids, including Leroy during his walk. He disrupts a man feeding pigeons and a chicken, burned a bush that a gardener had just trimmed and disrupted a kids' game of tug-a-war by cutting their rope in half, thinking they were trying to break it with force.
While walking along the city, citizens scared by his presence, Garmadon remembered what Vinny Folson had once told him before arriving at his apartment, where after reassuring a frightened Vinny, he moves in with him. Garmadon explained how he wanted to know more about life from him, having helped some people recently, which he found the experience confusing before Vinny tells him that there is goodness in him, even if his Oni side was brought back. Vinny then gives Garmadon a bit of advice about how to try and be polite and to smile more, which he does, including retracting his lower arms, and tries to smile, but it was too creepy around the citizens. Upon receiving his long overdue pizza, Garmadon tells Lloyd and Wu about the day Vinny gave him a plant as a gift and a lesson on empathy, which he learnt from his father. Garmadon slowly nurtured the plant, even naming it Christofern.
Lloyd impatiently refuses to believe his father had changed and simply demands how he knew the Overlord was returning through newspaper clippings he was sending to Wu. Garmadon explains he could sense anger and hatred, which is how he knew, and was surprised to hear Harumi was alive, still regarding her as a daughter to him, but refuses to help, taking up a vow of not resorting to violence as a result.
Annoyed, Lloyd, along with Wu, leaves the apartment, only to hear a noise and come back to see it destroyed, Christofern damaged, and Garmadon transforming into his Oni Form to attack some Crystal Warriors in retaliation, which makes Wu believe that it could help defeat the Overlord, and that Lloyd should unlock it.

Trivia
- Narrator: Garmadon
- This is the first time Garmadon reads a title card since "Green Destiny."
- The title "Christofern" contains the word fern; a class of plants that are known to be grown in pots.
- Coincidentally, Tommy Andreasen's Two Truths, One Lie post for Crystalized claims that, "A insignificant potted plant will prove to be one of the main reasons our heroes stand a chance against the overwhelming forces of evil".
- Garmadon refers to the Omega as the Omega Oni. This was what the latter was referred to in the credits to March of the Oni.
- As of this episode, WildBrain has surpassed the total count of episodes animated by WILFilm ApS.
- However, WiLFilm ApS episodes are still currently leading by runtime.
Continuity
- Garmadon does not acknowledge the events of the Garmadon comic series when explaining what he had been up to since "Endings." Presumably because it was produced after the episode was written.
- However, the Two Moon villagers are unintentionally mentioned when Garmadon that he had helped some people prior to his encounter with Vinny.
- Garmadon recalls what Vinny told him about life in "The Fall," which was the reason why he came to him.
- This is the third and final episode in Crystalized to use footage from WILFilm ApS seasons, featuring footage from March of the Oni episodes.
- The first episode to do this was "The Call of Home," which featured flashbacks from Skybound.
- The second episode was "A Sinister Shadow," which featured footage from Sons of Garmadon and Hunted.
- This is the first appearance of Oni Form since "Endings."
- This episode reveals that Garmadon once again took a vow of nonviolence in order to make up for his evil ways, which he did after the Final Battle for the same reason.
- This is also the second time he breaks the vow to fight back to reclaim/avenge something that is his: the first being Lloyd his son in "Enter the Digiverse" and then Christofern his pet plant in this episode.
- Garmadon didn't tell Wu or Lloyd of the Overlord's return due to in "The Darkness Comes", Lloyd didn't take his warning out the Oni seriously.
Errors
- Garmadon mentions that he was resurrected from the Cursed Realm instead of the Departed Realm, which is incorrect as the Cursed Realm was already destroyed by the time the events of Sons of Garmadon occurred.
- Technically, his physical body was still located in the Cursed Realm at the bottom of the Endless Sea when he was resurrected.
