The Constrictai are one of the five Serpentine tribes. The Constrictai were freed from their tomb by Pythor, and along with their fellow tribes, they embarked on a quest to awaken the Great Devourer. While this plan succeeded, the beast was killed by Garmadon. After the Serpentine betrayed him, the Constrictai and their fellow tribes journeyed underground, stumbling across the tomb of the Stone Army. Upon entering, they were faced with the revived Stone Army, who attacked the Serpentine and trapped them in the tomb.
The Constrictai and their fellow Serpentine made the tomb their home until the ninja discovered them, at which point the Nindroid crisis had begun. The Serpentine opted to avoid the struggle, but would later help evacuate Ninjago's citizens after the Golden Master began attacking the city. Following his defeat, the Constrictai and the other tribes returned to the surface, living in Ninjago alongside its people. When the Second Serpentine War commenced, they fought in the climactic battle at the Corridor of Elders.
History[]
Background[]
The Constrictai are one of the five Serpentine tribes, and their origin is unknown. As time passed, their tribe would come to have arguments and conflicts with the other four tribes of the Serpentine and later humans as well. They were involved in the Serpentine War, and were locked underground for 40 years for their crimes.
Rise of the Snakes[]
The Constrictai were released from their tomb inside the Mountain of a Million Steps by Pythor and readily joined him in an ambush against the Ninja. While the majority of the tribe participated in an ambush at the Toxic Bogs, Skalidor stayed behind to ambush Cole and Zane when they arrived at the Mountain of a Million Steps in an attempt to secure the tomb before Pythor's arrival. Afterwards, the Constrictai united with the other tribes in a quest to recover the four Fangblades in order to awaken the Great Devourer. Although the Serpentine succeed in awakening the Devourer, the serpent proved to be impossible to control and all of the Serpentine, including the Constrictai, took shelter in the Fangpyre Tomb until Lord Garmadon destroyed the Devourer with the Golden Weapons.
Legacy of the Green Ninja[]
After the destruction of the Great Devourer, the Constrictai continued to remain free with the rest of the Serpentine. When Skales tried to convince the tribes to follow him, Garmadon soon arrived and took control of the Serpentine, minus the generals. After Skales' attempt to kidnap Lloyd fails and his imprisonment in the city jail, Skalidor and the other generals joined Garmadon as well. After the destruction of the Mega Weapon, Garmadon decided to find the Dark Island, only for Skales to knock him off the Rattlercopter and take control of the Serpentine. After becoming the new snake king, Skales led the Serpentine to Ninjago City to bury it, only to end up finding the Tomb of the Stone Army. After the Stone Army were awakened by the venom of the Great Devourer, the Constrictai and the rest of the serpentine tried to fight back, only to be easily defeated and sealed inside the tomb.
Rebooted[]
Some point after their humbling defeat at the hands of the Stone Army, the Constrictai, alongside the rest of the Serpentine, reformed and built up their society within the former Tomb of the Stone Army, making peace with the humans in their isolation.
Tournament of Elements[]
Skalidor was among the group outside the City Bank who Lloyd encouraged to fight as one against the Anacondrai Cultists. The Constrictai would later participate in the battle at the Corridor of Elders and helped defeat Chen's fake Anacondrai army.
Season 7: The Hands of Time[]
Skalidor and several other Constrictai were part of a scouting group, alongside Skales, and Skales Jr., trying to track down the Vermillion.
After the Merge[]
After the Merge, Skalidor became the owner of the Crossroads Junkyard.
First Try![]
Skalidor talked with Arin and Sora and sold them the Fire Mech.
Before Wyldly Inappropriate[]
At some point after the Mech Master 5000, Skalidor lost ownership of his Junkyard to Kreel (or to someone who will later lose to Kreel) in a lice game.
Appearance[]
Generals and Warriors have large spikes along with their heads and backs, typically orange or light gray colored. Most Constrictai are considerably shorter than other Serpentine of their respective ranks, except for Skalidor, the general. Their main colors are orange, black, and metallic gray. The Constrictai possess greater muscular strength, enabling them to strangle opponents and tunnel through the ground with ease.
Abilities[]
- Superhuman strength: The Constrictai are physically the second strongest Serpentine tribe.
- Constrictai grip: The Constrictai possess a powerful grip, which they use to strangle their foes and incapacitate or even kill them. Unlike regular strangulation, the victims of the Constrictai grip are said to never fully recover from the effects of the grip unless given the anti-venom from the Constrictai Staff.
- Burrowing/Digging: They are the best burrowers of any Serpentine, enabling them to perform surprise attacks.
Weaknesses[]
- Relaxation; As difficult as it is to relax when in the crushing grip of a Constrictai, relaxing oneself can make it easier to escape their coils; conversely, struggling only makes it worse.
Tomb[]
The Constrictai tomb is located at the top of the Mountain of a Million Steps. Tribal Serpentine drawings cover the walls, with some depicting the legends and history of the Serpentine (including the prophecy of the Great Devourer). Pythor would eventually turn the tomb into the hub of the Serpentine's underground fortress.

Character Encyclopedia New Edition[]
The shortest tribe in the Serpentine Army is also the strongest. The Constrictai use their viselike grips to crush their enemies. These muscular snakes are also as stealthy as ninja; lurking in their underground hideouts until they are ready to strike.
Trivia[]
- The Constrictai appear to correspond to the Ninjago element of Earth, because their tomb is underground, they are described as excellent burrowers, and Earth is their dominant element in the spinner game.
- The Constrictai have the fewest vipers of any Serpentine tribe with Spinners, having only one so far.
- The Constrictai are the shortest tribe out of the five, which may explain the lower number of vipers, due to them all being around the same height range.
- In Virgin Media's synopsis for the episode "Can of Worms," the Constrictai are incorrectly called the "Constrictaurs."
- The Constrictai's first appearance in the sets was in the summer of 2012, despite their staff releasing the prior wave. They're the only tribe to experience this.
- It appears that the higher the rank within the Constrictai, the more black coloring the Serpentine has.
- A Constrictai general is seen in the flashback to the Serpentine War in "Spellbound," but it's unknown whether this was Skalidor or a previous general who was replaced during entombment.[1]
- Constrictai is similar to constricted, which means narrowed.
