LEGO's YouTube Channel: After rescuing the other Ninja from the collapsed subway tunnel, Nya tells them that the Council of the Crystal King has destroyed the Ninja Base and stolen the Weapons of Spinjitzu! While Nya takes the Ninja to the new base, the old Samurai X Cave, Harumi and the other villains use the Weapons of Spinjitzu to bring the Overlord back to life!
Will the Ninja be able to save Lloyd? Can the heroes stop the Crystal King?
Plot[]
The Council of the Crystal King arrive at the Crystal Temple with the Golden Weapons. Lloyd, completely wrapped up in Vengestone chains, hears that Wu and the others lost to the Crystal Council, and Harumi says to Lloyd that because she felt hurt after losing her parents to the Great Devourer's attack, it is Lloyd's turn to feel loss, and tries to manipulate him into using his anger to become like his father, but Lloyd resists. Meanwhile, the Crystal Council leaves to prepare the ritual for the Golden Weapons.
Meanwhile, Kai, Jay, Cole, and Zane are still trapped within the rubble. They manage to find an exit by following a rat, but they fail to find a way to the surface. Once they reach as far as they can go, Jay tries singing a song as they wait for the others to arrive for help, but the rubble begins to collapse. The others try to hold a giant boulder above them, but are not strong enough to lift it for long. Just when their demise is near, Nya arrives and saves them in her Samurai X Mech. After hearing word that the Monastery of Spinjitzu was destroyed and Harumi has resurfaced, the others head off to an "old base," just before Hounddog McBrag could arrest them.
Nya and the others return to the Samurai X Cave, where they reunite with Wu, P.I.X.A.L., and Skylor. As MiniPix Seven fixes up the power in the cave, they question what Harumi's motives could be with the Golden Weapons, and they figure out a plan to save Lloyd. Back at the Crystal Temple, Aspheera begins a ritual for the Golden Weapons, transforming them into the Weapons of Destruction. During the ritual, the Overlord begins to take physical form, emerging from his crystal, leaving Lloyd in shock by the return of Ninjago's greatest enemy as the Overlord maniacally laughs and proclaims that "It ends now."

Trivia[]
- Narrator: Lloyd
- This is the fourth episode with the word "Darkness" in it. The other three episodes to do this are "Darkness Shall Rise," "Island of Darkness," and "The Darkness Comes."
- Lloyd compares Harumi to the Great Devourer as she "took everyone dear to him" the same way the serpent took her parents away from her.
- During the scene where the four original ninja are struggling to hold up the boulder above them for any longer, when Cole says "I'm sorry, guys", he says it in his old voice.
- This makes it the third instance where Cole has clips of his old voice being reused, with the first two being "Curiosity," and "The Shape of Nya."
Cultural references[]
- When Kai says, "We gotta brace it with something!" this is most likely a reference to when Princess Leia said nearly the same line in Star Wars: A New Hope.
- In addition, when Nya says, "Somehow, she's back," this might be referring to a similar line from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, referring to Palpatine's unexpected return.
- Jay's song about cursed ramen carries a similar tune to that of "Oh! Susanna."
Continuity[]
- When Cole asks if things could get any worse, Kai responds that things always get worse when the question is asked. This is a possible callback to "The Real Fall" when Cole asks a question of a similar nature and ends up plunging them further down into Rock-Bottom.
- This may also be a call back of "Out of the Fire and Into the Boiling Sea," when Jay asked if things could get any worse, to which Cole responds the exact same statement that Kai made in this episode. As a result of their conversation, the Time Twins arrived with all four Time Blades to operate the Iron Doom.
- This episode marks the second time Nya saves the four ninja from an almost fatal situation as Samurai X, the first time being in "Can of Worms."
- This marks the first appearance of the Samurai X Cave since "Greatest Battles," and its first appearance in the WildBrain era.
- When Harumi told Lloyd how the Great Devourer killed her parents, Pythor was probably listening along with the other Council members, likely choosing not to mention how he unleashed the Devourer.
- The Ninja Ultra Combo Mech makes its first appearance in this episode, though it's only seen in the background in the Samurai X Cave.
- Kai mentions that Harumi had been secretly working against them for years. This means at least one year passed between "Saving Faith" and "The Turn of the Tide."
- The ritual to transform the Golden Weapons into the Weapons of Destruction and giving the Overlord a physical form is a major callback to the ritual performed with the Oni Masks to resurrect Garmadon in "Dread on Arrival." Harumi's lines "Follow my voice" and "It is I, Harumi" in particular are identical to lines she said in the first ritual. Lloyd is even held hostage in both instances.
- The difference is however, Harumi and her allies were able to witness the success of the revival of their master and it was fully completed, while in "Dread on Arrival," the ritual was briefly interrupted, and the Sons of Garmadon were arrested before Garmadon's revival.
- The shot of the Weapons of Destruction shooting purple electricity at the central crystal to summon the Overlord can be seen as a dark parallel to the shot of the four original ninja transferring their powers from their Elemental Blades to Lloyd and unleashing the Golden Dragon in the Temple of Light from "Island of Darkness."
- It's unknown why the Golden Weapons were required in order to bring the Overlord back.
- The Overlord finally regains a physical form since his Golden Master form was destroyed in "The Titanium Ninja."
- Lloyd discovers that the Crystal King is the Overlord, implying that Harumi didn't tell him that during her story in "A Sinister Shadow."
- The Overlord calls back to Lloyd saying "It ends now," in "Rise of the Spinjitzu Master."
- Also the first thing Lloyd says to the Overlord is his name "Overlord" which was the exact same thing he first said to the Overlord when he returned in "The Surge".
Errors[]
- At the Samurai X Cave, Kai is missing his shoulder pad when Skylor hugs him and Nya.
- When the Overlord repeats what Lloyd said to him in the Final Battle, he says "It ends. Now". This is slightly inaccurate, as Lloyd's original line was actually "This. Ends. Now".
