- Not to be confused with Elemental Dragons.
Dragon power (also called dragon energy) is the life-force of dragons. For Source Dragons, it's what makes them different from normal dragons as it makes them possess many capabilities when it comes to the realms. The Kingdom of Imperium relied on dragon power as its source of energy until Beatrix's dethronement.
History[]
Background[]
The First Spinjitzu Master implored the Source Dragons to bestow upon him their dragon power. His intention was to harness some of their life force and forge three Dragon Cores, instrumental in thwarting the Coalescence, which threatened to merge the realms.[1]
The Dragon Masters Egalt and Rontu ensured that the Shadow Dojo could not be open without the energy of a Source Dragon.[2]
At some point, the Kingdom of Imperium began to be powered by the dragons that lived there. However, when Beatrix ascended to the throne, the Claws of Imperium forced the dragons to give their energy instead of sharing it.[3] When the Sixteen Realms merged, the Claws began to hunt any known dragon they could find for their energy, especially the Source Dragons, which would allow Imperium to have control over the Merged Realms.[4][5]
Dragons Rising, Season 1[]
Years after the Merge, Sora occasionally had dragon power transferred to her by Riyu through Sparks, allowing her to use her power of Technology. Although, she believed that the dragon was transferring his power to her rather than enhancing it. But Lloyd knew otherwise, as the same circumstance happened to him when he was powered by the Matriarch of the Mountain Dragons to defeat Rapton and the Claw Hunters.[5]
During the Battle of the Second Monastery, Lloyd and Zane discovered that a Source Dragon had been held captive beneath Imperium, serving as the primary energy source for the entire kingdom. The imprisoned Source Dragon generously extended an offer to Lloyd, granting him a portion of his dragon power, thus establishing him as a conduit for him. Assuming the role, Lloyd successfully activated the portal gate of the Imperium Monastery, allowing the remaining dragons to make their escape into Ninjago.[6]
In order to put an end to the MergeQuakes once and for all, the ninja embarked on a mission to locate the Dragon Cores. However, Beatrix was determined to obtain the Dragon Cores before the ninja, to use them for a weapon capable of harnessing the dragon power of the artifacts in order to eliminate the ninja.[1] Nevertheless, Beatrix soon discovered that one of the Dragon Cores had been switched with a counterfeit by Rapton. Despite the potential risks of destroying Imperium, Beatrix instructed Dr. LaRow to create a fourth Dragon Core by utilizing the energy of the captive Source Dragon. When she refused, Jordana insisted on doing it.[3] After some time, Jordana achieved the successful creation of the fourth Core by extracting raw energy of the Source Dragon, making her the first Imperian to extract energy from a Source Dragon.[7]
The new Dragon Core allowed Beatrix to create her own MergeQuakes using the MergeQuake weapon, ultimately leading to the creation of the MergeQuake Storm. However, Lloyd was able to put an end to the MergeQuakes using the Dragon Cores and later used them to free the captive Source Dragon. After Beatrix's reign came to an end, Ras approached Jordana, who possessed a canister containing raw dragon power, extracted from Imperium's Source Dragon. With the potent energy, Ras and Jordana formed an alliance to aid Ras' master in their ambitious scheme to conquer the Merged Realms.[7]
Dragons Rising, Season 2[]
After Ras and Jordana arrived at the Shadow Dojo, Ras used the extracted Source Dragon energy to open the Shadow Dojo, revealing to Jordana why he needed energy from the captured Source Dragon in the first place.
Riyu gave some of his dragon power to Nya, which created a psychic connection between her and Kai, who was stuck in the Nether-Space. Later on, he would share his energy once more, enabling Nya to harness it with the Crowns of Horns to rescue both Kai and Bonzle from their imprisonment in the Nether-Space.
Abilities[]
Dragon power is normally used for the energy of dragons to keep them alive and can actually be used to enhance Elemental Powers, but it can be exploited by Source Dragons or those who control them, making them possess several aptitudes for the realms.
- Sparks - Powerful dragons[8] can share a portion of their dragon energy, enabling others to connect with them. This connection grants people access to certain abilities that the dragons can perform using their life force. When the transfer of power occurs, it is visible as white beams of energy. When a Source Dragon transfers its dragon power to an Elemental Master, the Elemental Master gains the ability to harness and utilize the Source Dragon's powers. This is because the Elemental Master becomes a conduit for the Source Dragons' life force, allowing them to process and control the immense power of the Source Dragons.
- Dimensiokinesis - With their dragon power, the Source Dragons have control over the realms.[5][6]
- Dimensional Portal creation - When combined with Dragon Ivory, dragon power can be used to open a portal to the Nether-Space.[10]
