“The dragons found a field of Cragling mud that, when they ate it, gave them great powers, making them larger, fiercer.”

The Earth Dragons (also known as Terra Dragons)[1] are dragons in the Merged Realms. Two of them were in conflict with the Craglings after moving to the Kingdom of Madness after The Merge, and starting consume their mud. One Earth Dragon had been captured by Imperium and escaped during the Battle of the Second Monastery and started to live at the monastery.

History[]

Background[]

The Earth Dragons originated from a different realm. However, after the Merge occurred, two of them decided to relocate to the Kingdom of Madness since their native realm had merged with it. As time passed, they found Cragling mud, which had the effect of augmenting their size and aggression upon consumption, making them obsessed with it. This led to their engagement in conflict with the Craglings over the possession of the mud.[2]

Dragons Rising, Season 1[]

Beyond Madness[]

During another battle, the two Earth Dragons fought the Craglings, who hurled boulders at them. As the ninja arrived, they mistook the dragons to be innocent. Without hesitation, the ninja fought the Craglings, allowing the Earth Dragons to escape. Kai inadvertently awakened the slumbering Earth Dragons, leading to another confrontation with the ninja. The Earth Dragons initially appeared victorious, defeating the ninja and consuming the Cragling mud, which caused the Craglings to dissassmble. However, Riyu discovered that the mud was the source of the Earth Dragons' aggression and utilized his abilities to overpower the mud field. This resulted in a release of energy from the two Earth Dragons, causing them to revert to their normal size and temperament.

Mindless Beasts[]

One Earth Dragon was at one point captured, being placed in the Imperium Prison so its dragon power would be later extracted. Along with the other dragons, it was released from its cell by Lloyd and Wyldfyre.

I Will Be the Danger[]

With the assistance of Lloyd and Wyldfyre, the Earth Dragon orchestrated its escape alongside the other dragons. Lloyd mounted the dragon's back during the getaway, along with Arin. Upon reaching the main gates, the ninja and the dragons were met with opposition from the Claws of Imperium and the Photacs. In an effort to secure their freedom, Wyldfyre took charge, leading the Earth Dragon and its fellow dragons into battle against the Claws and the Photacs.

The Calm Inside[]

The Earth Dragon continued to battle the Claws hunter until it was pinned down by two Photacs. When Wyldfyre communicated with the dragons they followed Jiro and Heatwave to the palace where they attempted to blast the palace down. The Earth Dragon continued to battle the Claw hunters but was knocked down by Ras before the Mountain Dragon. The Earth Dragon manage to get back up when the Monastery of Imperium rose from the ground with Kai, Nya, and Zane joining the fight.

The Battle of the Second Monastery[]

The Earth Dragon continued to battle the Claws of Imperium until was pinned down. When Wyldfyre communicated with the other dragons he went with the other dragons into the Monastery of Imperium where they went through the portal gate to the Monastery of Spinjitzu.

The Temple of the Dragon Cores[]

The Earth Dragon decided to stay in the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Kai rode the dragon when he and the others were at the Crossroads to close a MergeQuake rift.

Trivia[]

  • Although they are referred to as "Earth Dragons", they are never shown to use the elemental power of Earth. Instead, they are shown to use fire multiple times in "Beyond Madness", and to shoot lightning in "The Calm Inside", although in this case it's probably an animation error, because the same thing happened to the Ice Dragons in the same scene.
  • The fact that the Earth Dragons enlarge themselves as they eat Cragling mud was first teased in their debut in the Ninjago NXT short, "Noodles," which had an Earth Dragon growing as it ate noodles.
