A chicken is Wu's pet that he caught around the Monastery of Spinjitzu after the Oni's invasion to keep the ninja from getting out of shape.
History[]
Prior to Season 11[]
Some time after the Oni's invasion, Wu caught a chicken around the Monastery of Spinjitzu on the Mountains of Impossible Height upon seeing his ninja become lazy.[1][2]

After catching the ninja in their hot tub which they had made out of a sacred bell, Wu arranged a meeting in the Monastery of Spinjitzu where he gave them a lecture on monks who became ninja and combat strange animals while the chicken was in a nearby box. Wu then told them to survive five minutes with what was inside the box and left. When the box opened, revealing the chicken, the ninja assumed it was a joke until it suddenly charged up and attacked them. They all managed to grab the chicken and put it back in the box in less than five minutes.
Later that night, when Cole went for a fridge raid, the chicken was in it and attacked him.

The following morning, after defeating his ninja easily, Wu unleashed his chicken on them as punishment.
Questing for Quests[]
The chicken was pecking at the ground while Wu swept nearby when the ninja came back, following some failed quests, dead ends, or false leads when helping the Ninjago Police.

A Rocky Start[]
As the ninja unintentionally overpack, Jay was chasing after the chicken as it wore his travel pillow before grabbing it. It tried to grab it again, but Jay moved it away.
Under Siege[]
While the Pyro Vipers were searching for Wu inside the Monastery of Spinjitzu, the chicken attacked one of them in the kitchen.

A Cold Goodbye[]
After getting the wrong bag from Wu's room, Lloyd tried to go for the other bag containing Traveler's Tea. However, he came across the chicken which was waiting for him on the pillars holding up the roof where Lloyd was sneaking. He tried to shoo it away, but it blasted him out of the room before landing next to Wu, who petted it for its accomplishment.

The chicken passed by Wu and P.I.X.A.L. as they tried to create a portal to the Never-Realm.

The chicken and Cole were playing Prime Empire in the relaxation room, both wearing their soda guzzlers. The chicken struggled to play itself before Lloyd came in, and decided to play it with Cole.
The chicken later chased the Postman around the courtyard of the monastery.

Watching Jay's contest with Kai
When Kai and Jay had a bet on who would break the most bricks for a cookie, they almost inadvertently knock some of the pieces at the chicken. It later looked at the hole in the wall where the bricks originally were. Then it swiftly grabbed the cookie that Jay tried to eat before Wu inadvertently sent it to Zane, who passes it to Kai, only for it to be tossed to Cole when Wu scared him before the chicken caught it in its beak. The chicken then stood on the wall before jumping off when it collapsed.

When it was discovered the quest to rescue Wu was a vision created by him to teach each ninja a virtue and as he complimented them, the chicken came up behind Nya, jumped onto Cole's head before dropping the cookie into his hand and later jumped onto Zane's lap.

The chicken was laying on Nya's bed when Maya went to check up on her before she started to clean up the room, and forced the chicken out of the room.
The Turn of the Tide[]
The chicken participated the battle in Ninjago City and even attacked one of the Maaray Guards.
After Nya's sacrifice, the chicken came to pay its respect at her memorial in the monastery.
Crystalized[]

The chicken lied on Dareth in the monastery as he tried to think of a way to secure the ninja's release.
The Fall of the Monastery[]
After the explosion of the monastery, the chicken managed to escape to the courtyard.
Roots[]
The chicken, wearing its guzzler hat, flew past Wu as the monastery rebuilding began.

I Just Had the Weirdest Dream[]

The chicken supervised Jay while breaking bricks with his hands as part of training, later jumping on his head as Kai showed up, mentioning he had the weirdest dream until he blew it off before walking away as the chicken, flying off Jay's head, watched him.
I Just Had the Most Outrageous Dream[]
The chicken unintentionally scared Wu while he was resting on the stairs in front of the monastery, as he had the most outrageous dream, with the chicken in it, growing giant and turning into a pink candied chicken.
Appearance[]
Wu's chicken looks just like most chickens in Ninjago. Its feathers are brownish-orange in color, but gradually darken to brown in the lower part of the body. However, it also has golden feathers at the end of its small wings and distinctive tail. Its beak and legs are yellow and it has red skin around its dark eyes. On the top of the head it has a distinctive red comb.
When its lightning form is activated, its entire body glows blue and is surrounded by blue lightning.
Relationships[]
Wu[]
As the owner of the chicken, Wu is the only person with whom it has a completely perfect relationship. Although at first Wu only acquired it as part of the ninja's training, they eventually developed a relationship and it became Wu's pet.
Ninja[]
Although after their first encounter where they were forced to fight each other and the ninja feared and avoided the chicken, they eventually managed to bond with it somewhat and even sleep in the same bed or play video games with it.

Behind the scenes[]
- According to Tommy Andreasen, Wu's chicken appears in the show as a reference to the short, "The Master," created for The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Later, the designers included the statue of a chicken in the 70670 Monastery of Spinjitzu, so the creators put it in the show.[3]
- As shown in the concept art, the chicken was originally supposed to be white and more reminiscent of a real LEGO chicken.
Trivia[]
- Wu's chicken appears in "behind-the-scenes" form in the Season 13 blooper reel, where her name is Mrs. Benedict and she has the ability to speak.
- It appears to have lightning-based powers, but it is unknown if it uses the actual element of Lightning.
- It seems to like cookies.[4]
