“You're the force from the east we were told about?”
Arin to Egalt and Rontu

Force From the East is the fourth episode of the second season of Ninjago: Dragons Rising and the 24th episode overall.

Synopsis[]

To meet the legendary teacher from Lloyd's visions, the Ninja must pass a series of tests. But will the ancient master live up to their expectations?[1]

LEGO's YouTube channel: The ninja went looking for one Master but found TWO – amazing, right? Erm...debatable. Let’s just say one of them needs to learn how to lighten up a little, yeesh.[2]

ITVX: The Ninja’s search to defeat Shatterspin leads them to new masters while Cole returns home to find the Finders under attack.[3]

Extended: The Ninja undergo a final test in their search to find the hermit Master capable of fighting Shatterspin only to discover their new teachers are two dragon warriors. The Dragon Masters reluctantly agree to train the Ninja. Meanwhile, Ras and the Wolf Mask army attack the Finders in the Land of Lost Things. Cole returns in time to protect Bonzle from Ras and his evil plans for the young Finder.[4]

Plot[]

FFTE 2

Geo fondly looks at a pictures of the Finders.

Geo fondly looks at a picture of the Finders in the Rookery. He reminisces of Cole returning to them from battle, and of Cole catching him on his dragon after battling Dr. LaRow. He's interrupted by Bonzle, who tells asks him when dinner is, and remarks that she set the table fancy. Geo rushes outside with her, and meets Spitz and Fritz. He states that he isn't sure what they have to eat, and Bonzle states that she doesn't each much anyways. Geo mentions that Cole was the real chef of the group, but that Wu's voice called out to him to follow. Bonzle comments that it could be a trap and he's never coming back, and tells Geo that a trash geyser turned out new stuff. Geo is excited about making art with the new garbage, and uses his Fusion power to make a picture stand out of a stick, screwdriver, and his fork.

FFTE 33

Geo fuses the portal gate light halves together.

The four of them set out to examine the newly arrived trash in the Land of Lost Things. Geo finds half of a portal gate light, and realizes that he has the other half back at the Rookery yet is unaware of what it is. Upon returning, he puts them together with his Fusion powers. Soon after, they see Cloud Kingdom appear in the sky, and Geo recalls what Cole told him about the Cloud Monks there being nice. As soon as he tells this to the others, a giant anchor is dropped, and the impact causes Geo, Bonzle, Fritz, and Spitz to fall to the ground. Several Wolf Mask Warriors run down the chain towards them.

FFTE 51

The ninja prepare to fight the dragon.

Meanwhile, Lloyd, Kai, Nya, Wyldfyre, Arin, Sora, and Riyu fight the dragon guarding the training plateau, who is firing ice[5] blasts at them. Arin tries to mediate the situation, but the dragon screeches, knocking them all back. Wyldfyre, riding Riyu, approaches the dragon, claiming to speak his language. However, the dragon attacks with his claws, and Riyu dodges. The dragon continues to send icy blasts at the ninja. Lloyd, Nya, and Kai begin to use Spinjitzu and their Elemental Powers against him. Nya and Kai distract the dragon while Lloyd and Arin approach the gate, where Lloyd says the teacher they look for is behind it. They try to pull open the door to find it locked by a large bucket mechanism near the top of the gate. Kai trips over a sphere-shaped boulder, and Sora notes that it looks like they were put there on purpose. Lloyd concludes the same thing and tries to throw a boulder into the bucket, but the dragon hits it away with its tail. Lloyd explains to the others that he thinks the boulders will weigh down the bucket to pull down the chain that it is attached to, opening the gate. He says that some of them should distract the dragon while the others work on getting the boulders in the bucket. Sora starts with a boulder as the others distract the dragon with Spinjitzu, with the exception of Wyldfyre, who attacks the dragon with heat blasts on Riyu's back. Kai passes a boulder to her, and she rushes to the gate with Riyu, who runs off the wall to perform a backflip, letting Wyldfyre get high enough to secure the boulder. The gate cracks open barely. Arin uses his hands as a pedestal for Sora to jump off of with a boulder, securing a second boulder and cracking the gate open further. The dragon continues to fight the ninja, sending more ice blasts and attacks. Kai distracts the dragon so that Lloyd can grab a boulder and dunk it into the bucket. Kai grabs a boulder and uses Spinjitzu to throw in a fourth boulder. The door creaks open even further, and Lloyd estimates that one more boulder should fully open it. Arin tries to go under the dragon's stomach, but is grabbed by his claws instead, and dodges an ice blast. Nya picks up the boulder, dodges the dragon, and throws it into the bucket, fully opening the door. However, a smaller, purplish-blue dragon appears from behind the gate. The ninja are taken aback, and get into fighting stances.

FFTE 170

Rontu and Egalt talk with the ninja.

However, the dragons bow their heads. The ninja are confused, and then the second dragon congratulates them, telling them that they passed all three tests. Lloyd questions the tests, and the first dragon names the Test of Fears, the Test of Faith, and the Test of Unity, saying that most people don't get past the first one. Nya deduces that the Test of Fears was when the ninja went through Phantasm Cave. The first dragon states that the Test of Faith was the leap that Kai first made, into the fog and the unknown. The second dragon explains that the Test of Unity was the one they had just performed, since teamwork was needed to secure the boulders in the bucket. Lloyd asks about an ancient teacher, and the first dragon insults his intelligence. Arin laughs, and the second dragon explains that they are the teachers the ninja are looking for. She introduces herself as Rontu, and the first dragon as Egalt, the Dragon Masters.

FFTE 181

The Finders prepare to fight the Wolf Mask Warriors.

Elsewhere, in the Land of Lost Things, the Finders face off against the Wolf Mask Warriors, asking them what they want. Geo gets kicked backwards by one, and he yells for the rest of them to get to cover as more warriors arrive. Geo starts to fight them, and fuses weapons for Fritz and Spitz out of junk. The warriors start to chase Bonzle, and Geo attacks them and fuses them to the ground with a large metal scrap, taunting them. More warriors start to chase Bonzle, and Geo rescues her once more, and fuses more weapons. The Finders continue to fight the warriors until even more arrive, and Bonzle is dragged off by them. Geo realizes that they're trying to take her. All of a sudden, Cole arrives in his Elemental Golem form, demanding the Wolf Mask Warriors to leave Bonzle alone. Geo is surprised, and Cole launches an attack.

FFTE 254

The ninja deliberate with Rontu and Egalt.

Back at the training plateau, the ninja question the dragons as teachers and ninja. Egalt snarls, and informs them that he swore off training non-dragons centuries before, claiming to have had terrible experiences. Rontu questions why the ninja came, and Lloyd explains that he had a vision from the Source Dragons that prompted their journey. Egalt accuses him of lying, stating that Source Dragons do not interfere with mortal affairs. Rontu adds that it would take a serious crisis for the Source Dragons to act. Lloyd suggests that this might be that crisis, as they need to learn to counter Shatterspin. Egalt questions the need, claiming no one can perform that technique anymore. Rontu asks if they have witnessed someone using Shatterspin. Kai admits they were defeated by it and had no defense. Egalt dismisses their claims, stating that the secrets of Shatterspin have been lost to history. Lloyd insists that Ras trained Cinder in the technique and possesses powerful artifacts in his mission to free the Forbidden Five. Rontu warns that if true, a great evil is about to resurface.

FFTE 278

Cole fights Wolf Mask Warriors in his Elemental Golem form.

Meanwhile, Cole fights more Wolf Mask Warriors, as two of them run up the chain of Cloud Kingdom's anchor with Bonzle held captive. Cole hits the chain, causing Bonzle to fall off. Geo catches her as Cole continues to fight, knocking more Wolf Mask Warriors of the chain with an Earth Punch on the anchor. Geo questions the success of Cole's mission, but Cole puts him off for the time being. They retreat to the front of the rebuilt but inactive portal gate, and Cole uses his Earth Punch to create an earth and trash shell around the entire structure. He returns to his normal form and converses with the group, picking up and observing a loose Wolf Mask at their feet.

At the training plateau, Nya updates the Dragon Masters about the Forbidden Five and their banishment. The Dragon Masters, however, reveal that they are already aware of the Forbidden Five, explaining that they were the ones known as the Force from the East who successfully banished them. Egalt mentions that their' actions are considered legendary and date back thousands of years. Rontu explains how they countered the Forbidden Five's Shatterspin with their own unique fighting style called the Rising Dragon Technique. Egalt elaborates on a powerful spell they used to exile the Forbidden Five, stating that they concealed their language and any references to them, asserting that the Forbidden Five cannot return, even if their teachings were to be rediscovered. Lloyd inquires whether this could occur during the Ritual of the Blood Moon, prompting the Dragon Masters to exchange concerned looks among themselves.

FFTE 337

Geo reinforces the earth and trash shell around the portal gate.

In the earth and trash shell around the portal gate, Cole convenes with the group, and theorizes that the Wolf Mask Warriors must want Bonzle for a reason. Geo asks her if she knows why. Bonzle tells them that she doesn't know why they're after her, claiming that she's never seen them before. Outside, Wolf Mask Warriors begin to dismantle the shell, dislodging trash and rubble. Geo uses his Fusion powers to reinforce the shell by fusing rubble and trash together. Cole encourages Geo, and Bonzle looks at them guiltily.

FFTE 346

Ras and Jordana watch the Finders.

In Cloud Kingdom, Jordana exclaims that getting the "component chip" should not have been much trouble, especially after she removed the boundary spell around the Land of Lost Things. She expresses her anger at an Elemental Master interfering. Ras tries to calm her, and Jordana exclaims that "she's the key." Ras expresses his understanding, and orders the Gong of Shattering to be prepared. Jordana questions the consequences of using it too much, and Ras claims that no cost is too high to get what they came for. He orders a Cloud Monk to use the Mallet of Shattering on the gong, transforming the Wolf Mask Warriors in the Land of Lost Things into Wolf Mask Claw Warriors. They begin to dismantle the earth shell once more.

FFTE 385

Rontu persuades Egalt to train the ninja.

Meanwhile, Egalt and Rontu deliberate with each other in their own language, leading Wyldfyre to think they are talking about the end of the Merged Realms. She assures Sora, who thought Wyldfyre was joking, that she is being serious. The Dragon Masters tell the ninja that Ras could have not opened the Shadow Dojo to get the Wolf Masks the ninja spoke of without the energy of a Source Dragon, given how they assumed that only Source Dragon energy can open it. Sora concluded that Ras had siphoned energy from the Source Dragon of Energy after being contained by the Imperium and Ras himself. The Dragon Masters expressed disbelief, noting that if a Source Dragon was captured, it signified that true darkness had tainted the world. Lloyd felt confident that with the Dragon Masters' support, the Wolf Clan stood no chance. Egalt and Rontu claim that they were young when they first beat the Forbidden Five, and that they can't fight alongside the ninja. However, Rontu concluded that they can train the ninja instead. Egalt questions her decision, claiming that the ninja are weak, but Rontu claims they've proven their worthiness by passing the three tests. Egalt reminds her of what happened last time he trained a non-dragon. Rontu countered, emphasizing the urgency of the situation posed by the Blood Moon and the dangers that came with the merging of the realms. She warned that the Forbidden Five would have greater opportunities to wreak havoc, and if they did not act, all their previous efforts to banish the Forbidden Five would be rendered meaningless, jeopardizing their legacy. She insisted that they needed to train the ninja. Reluctantly, Egalt agreed, but with a warning that he hoped he wouldn't regret this decision. Rontu informed the ninja that time was of the essence, as mastering the Rising Dragon Technique was incredibly challenging, and they would begin training at the next day. Arin was confident in their ability to succeed. However, Egalt cautioned against overconfidence, pointing out that such a flaw was precisely what the Forbidden Five would take advantage of. He acknowledged that while the ninja had received good training, they were only beginning to grasp the necessary skills, and if Rontu's concerns were valid, the fate of the Merged Realms was at stake.

FFTE 421

The Finders activate the portal gate.

Back in the Land of Lost Things, the Wolf Mask Claw Warriors continue to chip away at the shell protecting the portal gate. Inside, the Finders dodge falling debris. Cole sees the portal gate light Geo assembled and part of the gate frame in the earth shell, and realizes they match the description of what Nya was telling him about. He tells the others, and asks for help assembling it. Geo questions the spell around the Land of the Lost Things, and Bonzle says that she thinks they can leave now. Cole turns to his Elemental Golem form, and they begin to clear debris from around the door of the gate, and put on the pieces that Geo found from earlier. Geo uses his Fusion power to fuse the parts all together, activating the portal as Wolf Mask Claw Warriors break through the shell. They run through, and are transported to the portal at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, knocking Alfonzo Frohicky off of his ladder and landing in a pile at Zane's feet.

FFTE 444

Cole reunites with Zane, and asks for his help.

Back at Cloud Kingdom, Jordana observes the Finders' escape through her crystal ball in anger. Ras tells her they will follow, as Wolf Mask Claw Warriors run through the portal gate as well.

On the other side, Cole questions why Zane is holding a frog man doll, and Zane tells him it is a long and barely comprehensible story. Cole dismisses him, and asks Zane for his help. Zane questions what help is needed, and the Wolf Mask Claw Warriors arrive through the gate.

Trivia[]

Continuity[]

  • Geo recalls Cole visiting the Cloud Kingdom in "Kingdom Come."
  • In the opening scene, Geo is reminiscing upon two scenes from Land of Lost Things (episode), both the scene where Cole arrives to the noodle cup and the scene where Jiro swooped in to save him.
    • However, it seems as though Geo is misremembering these events, because in Geo's recollection, Cole holds his hands when he makes it to the noodle cup, and he removes his hood when Geo lands on Jiro, events that didn't occur in the original episode.

Errors[]

KaiKeyframesErrorFFtE

Kai's unfinished animation.

  • When Nya saves Kai from Egalt, Kai's in-between frames are missing, leaving only his keyframes visible.
  • When Egalt tosses Arin, a thud can be heard, but when the camera cuts to Arin he is simply kneeling rather than his back as the thud would've suggested.
    • Additionally, the boulder Arin was carrying disappears between the shot of Egalt and the shot of Arin kneeling.
