Can the All-New LEGO® NINJAGO® Comic Book Continue When Garmadon is GarmaGONE?
Two Moon Village is in a whole lotta trouble, and Garmadon is nowhere to be found. It's almost like something terrible might've happened to the most evil person in Ninjago...[1]
Plot[]
A barely conscious Garmadon is laying in a crater following his battle with Mogra. He sees Lloyd wandering towards him and reaches his hand towards him. However, it is just a hallucination and Min, who is actually approaching him, is left bewildered.
Back in Two Moon Village, Mogra is addressing the remaining citizens, announcing his intentions to set the Red Crows’ permanent base of operations in the village. He also renames the village ‘New Mograton’. The citizens object, but Mogra cares little. Ultra Violet tells him they haven’t been able to find Garmadon. Mogra isn’t concerned, as even if he returns, he is powerless without the Two Moon Tea. Behind his back, Saeko sneaks some Tea into a vial and escapes the village. She returns to where the escaped elders have set up camp. Saeko expresses concern that Min hasn’t returned, voicing her disapproval of her mission to rescue Garmadon. Min has managed to get Garmadon on her horse, but he is still just holding onto consciousness. He falls off the horse and mutters the word ‘Mogra’.
A flashback begins, all the way back to the Birchwood Forest battle during the Serpentine War. A teenage Garmadon expresses fury at a much younger Mogra for siding with Chen and the Serpentine. The two get into a fight. Mogra eventually tries to convince Garmadon to side with him. He tells him Wu’s misguided attempts are only prolonging the suffering of the war. Mogra sees the darkness within Garmadon and promises the two of them can overthrow both Wu and Chen and rule Ninjago. Garmadon is nearly about to accept the offer, before Wu and the Elemental Alliance arrive with reinforcements. The Sons of the First Spinjitzu Master take on Mogra together and eventually defeat him using spinjitzu. Mogra is captured, but not before warning Wu the ‘snake in his garden will become a serpent’. Neither brother knows what he means.
Back in the present, Min has set up a camp. Garmadon is rambling about snakes. Min is confused. Garmadon realizes that he is the snake Mogra was talking about and then passes out again. Min is only left more puzzled, when three members of the Red Crows ambush them. They tell Min the village is under a curfew when they realize Garmadon is with them. They are excited at the prospect of how Mogra will reward them if they bring Garmadon back to New Mograton. This distracts them long enough from the presence of the Two Moon Village Commandos, who rescue Min and Garmadon from the bikers. They bring Garmadon back to their camp.
Min pleads with her mother to give Garmadon some of the Two Moon Tea, but Saeko vehemently refuses. She says it’s all they have and doesn’t believe Garmadon could even do anything to liberate their fallen village. Min confesses she didn’t even think of giving him the tea so he can use his strength to save the village, she only wanted to help him because he’s hurt. Saeko pauses and realizes Min is right; she confesses she’s forgotten to help for the sake of helping. She feeds Garmadon the tea and he begins to glow and float.
Garmadon is back at the start of his journey, sleeping under a tree when Shadow Garmadon confronts him. He quickly realizes this is another dream. He exhaustedly tries to fight off his Shadow form, but it multiplies and continues to ask why Garmadon keeps him around. Shadow Garmadon relents and sends Garmadon back to where his path to darkness began; the Monastery of Spinjitzu when Wu’s sword flies over the wall. Young Garmadon goes over the wall to retrieve the sword, ignoring Wu’s warnings of a snake in the garden. Present day Garmadon yells at his younger self to listen to his brother. But history plays out as it once did, and young Garmadon is bitten by the Great Devourer. Garmadon is brought out of that memory and Shadow Garmadon asks him if that is really how that day went, with Wu trying to warn him of the danger. Garmadon wonders if it matters, as he was always supposed to walk the path of darkness. Shadow tells him that path has been tread and that he now has a choice of what he can do next. Child Garmadon then appears, asking why he carries him around with him. Present Garmadon says he doesn’t know, to which his child self says ‘that is the first step to healing a divided heart’.
In the real world, Garmadon’s body continues to glow. Eventually it stops and Min calls his name. He lands and looks to the child, ready to help them liberate their village.
