Golden Weapons   Mega Weapon   Golden Armor   Golden Ultra Dragon
“The Four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu. Each possessing the power of Creation, forged by my father, the First Spinjitzu Master. In the molten steams of the Golden Peaks.”

The Four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu were weapons that consisted of the Scythe of Quakes, the Nunchucks of Lightning, the Shurikens of Ice, and the Sword of Fire. They were a set of powerful weapons created by the First Spinjitzu Master and used to create Ninjago. The Tornado of Creation could only be performed by the ninja through their presence.[1] They were handled by the ninja on their quests before being stolen by Lord Garmadon after he destroyed the Great Devourer. When forged together, the four Golden Weapons became the Mega Weapon, which was comprised of the four main elements along with Creation. They have the power to reveal who is the Green Ninja.

After the Mega Weapon was destroyed by the original ninja and Wu, the remains of the Golden Weapons wound up on a comet known as Delta V. The Overlord sent the Nindroids there to retrieve the remains, which would allow him to become the all-powerful Golden Master. Despite efforts by the ninja to stop them, the remains of the weapons were obtained and melted down and reformed into the Golden Armor. After Zane "sacrificed" his life to destroy the Golden Master, the Golden Armor was hidden away by Cyrus Borg.

Years later, during the conflict with the Oni, the Golden Armor was reforged back into the Golden Weapons by Kai and Nya and were used to fight the Oni at the Monastery of Spinjitzu. After the Tornado of Creation was formed by the six ninja and the sons of the First Spinjitzu Master, the Golden Weapons were drained of their power and were placed in the secret compartment in the hangar bay.

A few years later, the Overlord sent his Crystal Council for the Golden Weapons to carry out his plan to be brought back to Ninjago, converting the four weapons into the Weapons of Destruction[2][3] as a result. After being reclaimed by the ninja, they were destroyed and their elemental energy became the Golden Ultra Dragon.

History[]

Creation[]

At an unknown point in time after his escape from the Realm of Oni and Dragons, the First Spinjitzu Master forged the Golden Weapons at the Temple of Light with gold from the Golden Peaks. After that, he used them to create Ninjago. Prior to his death, he entrusted his sons, Wu and Garmadon, with protecting the Golden Weapons.

Ghost Story (flashback)[]

While training Morro, Wu eventually presented the Golden Weapons to his apprentice to see if he would become the Green Ninja. However, the Weapons didn't react, enraging Morro over his destiny of the Green Ninja being false.

Battle Between Brothers (flashback)[]

After succumbing to the power of the Great Devourer, Garmadon attempted to claim the Golden Weapons for himself. After he and Wu clashed over the Weapons, they eventually slammed them together, resulting in an explosion that separated the two and created a storm above.

Following Garmadon's banishment, Wu proceeded to hide the Golden Weapons across Ninjago, tasking the dragons with protecting them. After the Weapons were hidden, Master Wu created a map so that if he died or was captured, the Weapons could be obtained if they were needed. This map was given to Ray, the former Elemental Master of Fire.

The Golden Weapon[]

The Ninja were carrying Wu to the Caves of Despair to get the first Golden Weapon. They snuck in and grabbed the scythe, but Jay revealed their location by screaming, thus they were ambushed by the Skulkin. Fortunately, the ninja learned Spinjitzu and managed to beat the Skulkin. However, the Earth Dragon woke up, and despite Master Wu's orders, Kai used the Scythe and spun out of the caves.

King of Shadows[]

At the Frozen Wasteland, the ninja traveled there by boat. Zane attempted to get the Shurikens of Ice but was frozen by the Ice Dragon. The ninja managed to escape while sledding on Zane's ice cube, but crashed, breaking the ice cube. They then traveled to the Floating Ruins to get the Nunchucks of Lightning. The Skulkin beat them, but they were chased off. Unfortunately, Wisp appeared and tried to chase the ninja, but they managed to escape.

Later, the Four Weapons were gathered by Master Wu and his four ninja proteges, Kai, Cole, Jay, and Zane. Kai was lured in by Nya to the Fire Temple. The Nya turned out to be a fake and was Lord Garmadon by using a shadow. The real Nya was chained above the lava, and Garmadon tempted Kai to unleash the Sword of Fire to cut the chains, but would also free Garmadon. He did it anyway and was battled by his own shadow. Wu defeated them. However, the other three ninja were ambushed by Samukai and his Skulkin army, who stole three of the four Weapons and brought them to the Underworld. In an attempt to retrieve the Weapons, Master Wu set out for the Underworld himself, carrying the Sword of Fire.

Weapons of Destiny[]

In the Underworld, Master Wu and Samukai fought over the Golden Weapons before Lord Garmadon himself. Samukai eventually gained the upper hand and claimed the Sword of Fire; after that, he attempted to use the Golden Weapons to defeat Lord Garmadon and retake the Underworld. However, the Weapons' power was too great for him to handle, and as a result, he was destroyed and created a portal. Garmadon used this opportunity to escape to the Realm of Madness, vowing to become strong enough to wield all Four Weapons at once. After Garmadon left through the portal, the four ninja took the Weapons, vowing to protect Ninjago and be ready for Garmadon's return.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time[]

When Lord Garmadon attempted to change the future by going back in time, the ninja ended up shadowing their past selves on their quest to claim the Golden Weapons. When they clashed against Lord Garmadon (now allied with his past self) inside the Fire Temple, Jay gathered the Golden Weapons of the past and gave them to his friends. Using the combined elemental power of the past Weapons, the ninja destroyed the Mega Weapon, taking the Golden Weapons with it.

The New Masters of Spinjitzu[]

Kruncha and Nuckal got the idea to steal the Four Weapons from the ninja while they were sleeping and temporarily became the new Masters of Spinjitzu through them. After a whirlwind adventure on the training course at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, the Skulkin Generals decided that it wasn't a great idea, to begin with, and returned the Weapons.

Rise of the Snakes[]

The ninja decided to do a tournament to decide the Green Ninja. They used the golden weapons to fight each other, but in the final round, Kai lost control of his causing a fire, but luckily Master Wu used the shurikens to put out the fire. When Jamanakai Village was attacked by the Hypnobrai, Jay was going to use his nunchucks, but Zane said not to because they were too unstable.

Snakebit[]

The ninja continued to use the Golden Weapons as the Serpentine were unleashed on Ninjago through the machinations of Lloyd Garmadon. During their battle with the Fangpyre tribe, the ninja discovered that they could transform the Golden Weapons into vehicles, allowing them to steal the Fangpyre Staff and use its antivenom to cure Ed and Edna of the Fangpyre bite.

The Snake King[]

At the Lost City of Ouroboros, the ninja confront Pythor and the Serpentine, but as they charge into the arena, they are caged in, dropping their weapons in the proceeds. After Samurai X helps them escape with the use of their mech, Samurai X proceeds to steal back the Golden Weapons from the Serpentine.

Day of the Great Devourer[]

When the Great Devourer attacked Ninjago City, Lord Garmadon returned—now with four arms thanks to his time in the realm of darkness—and demanded that the ninja give him the Golden Weapons, as only their combined power could destroy the Devourer. Seeing the logic in their foe's plan, the ninja reluctantly complied, and Garmadon used them to destroy the Great Devourer once and for all. Unfortunately, Garmadon promptly fled the scene with the Golden Weapons.

Darkness Shall Rise[]

Lord Garmadon used the combined power of the Golden Weapons to repair the Destiny's Bounty as a dark counterpart known as the Black Bounty. Using his new airship, he brought the weapons back to the Golden Peaks, where they were merged into the Mega Weapon, which could create, but not destroy, anything.

Codename: Arcturus[]

As the Nindroid crisis raged on, the Golden Weapons were revealed to have survived the destruction of the Mega Weapon; they had been shot into space and landed on a comet called Delta V. Pythor intended to have the Nindroids travel to Arcturus to seize their remains so he could fulfill an ancient prophecy.

The Nindroids constructed a rocket ship to go into space and retrieve the weapons from the comet, with the ninja pursuing them across Arcturus before Cryptor and his remaining allies abandoned them there.

The Titanium Ninja[]

With the Golden Weapons obtained, the Nindroids melted down their remains to build the Golden Armor, which endowed the power of the First Spinjitzu Master to a single being. As Pythor planned, the power was passed onto the Overlord, making him the Golden Master and fulfilling a devastating prophecy. The rest of the Weapons' remains were used to help construct the Overlord's new mech.

After the Golden Master's destruction, Cyrus Borg retrieved the Golden Armor and had it hidden away where no one would find it.

The Fall[]

While fighting the Oni, Lloyd and Garmadon accidentally stumbled upon the Golden Armor. It was able to keep the Oni away from them. They took it with them onto the Destiny's Bounty where Nya came up with the idea to reforge the Golden Armor back into the Golden Weapons.

Endings[]

Kai was able to reforge the Golden Weapons, and the ninja used them to battle the Oni. Because of their presence, the ninja, Wu, and Garmadon were able to use the Tornado of Creation to defeat the demons. Following the tornado, the weapons lost their power, and their golden gleam faded.

Between March of the Oni and Crystalized[]

The weapons were later moved to a special compartment in the Ninja's secret base in the Monastery, having been rendered powerless by the Tornado of Creation.

A Painful Promise[]

When Aspheera was curiously prying through the base, she accidentally came across the Weapons, but before she could touch them, she was blocked by Wu. She asked him if it was safe to keep them all so close together, to which he informed her of their powerless status, before sealing them away again.

The Fall of the Monastery[]

The Council of the Crystal King invade the monastery to steal the Golden Weapons. Despite Wu, Nya, P.I.X.A.L., Skylor, and the MiniPix's efforts, they succesfully steal them with Aspheera taking the Sword of Fire, Vangelis taking the Scythe of Quakes, The Mechanic taking the Shurikens of Ice, and Pythor taking the Nunchucks of Lightning, to his displeasure due to the lack of an electric cord.

Darkness Within[]

Aspheera commenced a ritual with her staff's magic, transforming all four Golden Weapons into the Weapons of Destruction by incasing them in crystals. The new powers of the weapons also allowed the Overlord to take physical form as the Crystal King.

The Coming of the King[]

After the Overlord bestowed his Crystal Council with new powers, they received their individual Weapons of Destruction; Aspheera uses the Sword of Destruction, Vangelis uses the Scythe of Destruction, the Mechanic and Mister F share the two Shurikens of Destruction, and Pythor gets the Nunchucks of Destruction. After Lloyd escaped, they all chased him down with the power of their weapons.

Return to Primeval's Eye[]

The Crystal Council were armed with their weapons when looking for Lloyd and Harumi.

Dragon Form[]

The Ninja in their Dragon Forms took back the Weapons from the Crystal Council and purified them using their increased elemental energy.

Roots[]

Realizing the Overlord would corrupt them, the Ninja united the weapons. The weapons were destroyed, unleashing their elemental energy to assume the form of the Golden Ultra Dragon which helped Lloyd defeat the Overlord and save Ninjago.

Trivia[]

  • The four Golden Weapons have small stones the color of their element (for eyes of the dragon design on each).
  • The Golden Weapons could backfire on the wielder if used to attack someone wearing a special black kimono.[4]
  • In Rise of the Snakes, the ninja relied too much on the Golden Weapons to harness their powers, which limited their abilities once they lost possession of the weapons.[5]
  • Garmadon used Samukai to see if having four arms was enough to wield all four weapons at once, and Samukai's destruction proved that more strength was also needed, although he already had four arms.[6]
  • If all four Golden Weapons are placed in front of the one destined to be the Green Ninja, they will react with green Energy.
  • Lloyd displayed the powers of the Golden Weapons when he became the Green Ninja; when the ninja attempt to teach Lloyd at Dareth's dojo, Lloyd punches a stack of wood with great power, causing Jay to declare, "That was the power of the Scythe of Quakes."
    • It is also possible that the person destined to be the Green Ninja simply has these powers anyway.
  • In "Codename: Arcturus" and "The Void," the Golden Weapons are revealed to have been melted together during their flight to Delta V. Some of the weapons still have their exact shape and look (e.g. Nunchucks of Lightning and Sword of Fire).
  • Their design was reused for the Obsidian Weapons, although the Shurikens of Ice were replaced by sais as Zane's weapon.
  • When the Golden Weapons are laid out before Morro, the Sword of Fire erroneously appeared as a normal golden katana.
    • While this was previously thought to be an error, Tommy Andreasen has posed the questions, "Might Wu have made a terrible mistake and laid down the wrong sword? Was Morro intended to become the green ninja but robbed of his legacy by Wu’s negligence?"[7]
  • The Golden Weapons appear in non-canonical media taking place after Rebooted even though the weapons were fused into the Golden Armor at that point.
    • In LEGO Dimensions, the Golden Weapons are used as main weapons for Kai, Cole, Jay, and Zane.
    • In the "Meet the Ninja" videos, the original four ninja brandish their Golden Weapons.
  • Lloyd and Nya are the only ninja not to have their own Golden Weapons, though Nya briefly wielded the Scythe of Quakes in "Endings."
  • In its set form, the Sword of Fire has the most accurate design to its TV series counterpart.
  • In Zane's dream in "Never Trust a Snake," Lloyd is holding the Nunchucks of Lightning.
  • In some sets, there are hints at possible Golden Weapons for different elements:
  • Even though the Golden Weapons were melted into the Golden Armor, it might have been possible to reconvert it back at the Golden Peaks along with the Mega Weapon since that was their birthplace. However, it is proven that an elemental master of Fire like Kai can reforge them.
    • In "The Fall," Kai and Nya decide that they will attempt to reforge the weapons, however, they plan on doing so at the Monastery of Spinjitzu with Kai's fire instead of the Temple of Light.
    • In "Endings," Kai successfully reforged the weapons, now featuring the new designs based on the Legacy sets. However, the Sword of Fire and the Shurikens of Ice retain their original design.
    • The Oni are afraid of the Golden Weapons' power.
  • In "Endings," the ninja possessed the Golden Weapons after a long period of time since "Day of the Great Devourer" although the last time they used them was in "Wrong Place, Wrong Time."
  • Since the Golden Armor was confirmed by Tommy Andreasen to have been weakened by Zane's sacrifice,[8] it is possible that the reforged Golden Weapons were also weaker than their original forms, which is why they lost power later.
    • It could explain why in Roots, the Golden Weapons were destroyed by their combined power while they were completely unharmed in previous appearances when they were united.
      • The weapons themselves were not strong enough to behold their own combined power and, ironically, meet the same fate as their victims who tried to wield all four at once. While corrupted by The Overlord's crystals, they were given just enough strength not to destroy themselves.
  • According to Tommy Andreasen, when the First Spinjitzu Master created the Golden Weapons, he put the potential to become whatever in them and thus the ninja were able to turn them into modern vehicles.[9]
  • According to Tommy Andreasen, the reason why the Golden Weapons look different in the sets for Season 15: Crystalized than they are depicted in show is that "the toy designers decided to design them that way."[10]
  • According to Tommy Andreasen, the reason the crystalized versions of the weapons are called the Weapons of Destruction is because they were meant to represent the opposite of the Weapons of Spinjitzu's powers to create, whereas the same powers of the Weapons of Destruction were used to corrupt Ninjago.[11]
  • Each Crystal Council member has a connection to the ninja who wielded their Weapon of Destruction before they were corrupted.
    • Vangelis uses the Scythe of Destruction, the weapon previously used by Cole, who had defeated and dethroned him in Season 13.
    • Aspheera uses the Sword of Destruction, the weapon previously used by Kai, whose powers she stole in Season 11.
    • Mister F and the Mechanic use the Shurikens of Destruction, the weapons previously used by Zane. Mister F, like Zane, was a Nindroid, and his original model fought Zane in Season 8. The Mechanic tried to dismantle Zane for spare parts in Season 6, and captured him to use him as a power source to bring Unagami into the real world in Season 12.
    • Pythor uses the Nunchucks of Destruction. While Pythor doesn’t have too much of a personal connection to Jay in the same way the other villains have connections to their weapon's holder, Jay was nearly transformed into a Serpentine like Pythor back in Season 1 after pricking his hand on a Fangpyre skeleton’s fangs. Additionally, in "Blue Lightning," Jay defeats him in a battle. Jay is also the only ninja to not have been defeated by Pythor during their first encounter with him.
