The hangar bay is an underground base P.I.X.A.L. built to serve as a storage for the ninja, as well as their mechs and vehicles, located inside the Mountains of Impossible Height, beneath the Monastery of Spinjitzu.
It was destroyed by the Crystal Spiders after the Council of the Crystal King's mission to take the Golden Weapons.
Although destroyed years prior, the hangar bay was eventually cleared up a bit and used by the ninja to store a new Bounty that Nya created before the Merge.[1] It was finally completely cleaned up and repaired over the next year.
History[]
Prior to Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu[]
Shortly after the Oni's invasion, P.I.X.A.L. began working on the hangar bay to store the Samurai X Mech and Destiny's Bounty when they're not in use. In addition, she began working on new vehicles for the ninja to use during combat.
Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu[]
A Rocky Start[]
In order for the ninja to visit the pyramid in the Desert of Doom, P.I.X.A.L. suggested that they use their new vehicles located in the hangar bay Once they entered the hangar bay, the ninja were surprised to see such a base and begin exploring. Nya questions one of the inventions which turned out to be the Land Bounty. As soon as the ninja found their vehicles, they immediately departed despite leaving their belongings.
The Belly of the Beast[]

Under Siege[]
After the Pyro Vipers invade the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Cole, Jay, Kai, Wu, and P.I.X.A.L. flee to the hangar bay to seek protection. After realizing they are surrounded, P.I.X.A.L. reveals her backup plan which is an unfinished Titan Mech, so Kai, Jay, and P.I.X.A.L. begin working on it.
The Explorers Club[]
Now that Aspheera knows Wu's hideout, the Pyro Vipers begin to break down the door by slamming into its defenses. Back inside, Kai, Jay, and P.I.X.A.L. continue to fix the Titan Mech in order to prepare for the worst.
Vengeance is Mine![]
Still trying to hide from Aspheera, the doors to the hangar bay were about to break, so Cole, Jay, Kai, and Wu hide under the vents while P.I.X.AL. continued to fix the Titan Mech. When the doors disintegrate, the ninja are nowhere to be found until Jay's sneeze gave away their hiding spot. The Pyro Vipers find them, but P.I.X.A.L. sprints into action and defends the ninja using the operational Titan Mech.
Aspheera, with the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu, is able to overpower the ninja, but Lloyd, Nya, and Zane fly in with the second scroll. A lengthy battle pursues, resulting in Zane freezing Aspheera's army. Before it was all said and done, Aspheera manages to break her arm free and attempt to zap Wu with her staff, but Zane saves his master pushing him out of the way and taking the hit himself, causing him to be seemingly destroyed.
A Cold Goodbye[]
After Lloyd steals the Traveler's Tea from Master Wu's quarters, the ninja head down to the hangar bay only to find Wu also down there with Aspheera's staff. Wu demands back the Traveler's Tea, but the ninja disobeys their master causing a lengthy fight. In the end, the ninja were able to defeat Wu by knocking the staff out of his hand while typing him up. Wu attempts to warn the ninja about the Never-Realm, but Lloyd places a mouthpiece over Wu.
After the brawl, the ninja head to the Land Bounty while P.I.X.A.L. used Aspheera's staff to zap the ninja into the Never-Realm. When P.I.X.A.L. releases Wu from his captivity, he tells P.I.X.A.L. that Traveler's Tea doesn't work in the Never-Realm meaning the ninja cannot return to Ninjago. He lied about the Traveler's Tea so he could go alone.

Crystalized[]
Farewell the Sea[]
P.I.X.A.L., Cole, and Zane worked on several of vehicles in the hangar bay when they were interrupted by a broadcast reporting on the latest Vengestone smuggling bust and a press release from the newly elected mayor, Ulysses Trustable. In the press release, Mayor Trustable praised the city's government organized group of New Ninja while simultaneously slamming the original ninja for being highly destructive in their efforts to save Ninjago. This report greatly angered Cole, though Zane coldly conceded the mayor's point, revealing that he had also turned off his emotions during the prior year when his productivity fell as a result of his overwhelming sense of grief. Frustrated by this conversation, Cole stormed out of the hangar bay in search of Wu.
The Shape of Nya[]
The reassembled ninja gathered together in the hangar bay to discuss the ongoing Vengestone smuggling problem, eventually settling on Jay's suggestion that the material was being transported through the Ninjago Metro.
After their unsuccessful mission, the ninja returned to the hangar bay where Lloyd vented his frustrations about their fracturing teamwork and his sense of replacement by the New Ninja. Unfortunately, a fight between Kai and Jay soon broke out, triggering the hangar's sprinkler systems. Before any further blows could be exchanged, Nya manifested herself through the sprinkler pipes and revealed that there was a way for her to be restored to her human form: specifically she needed her elemental powers drained before she lost her physical shape. In response, Zane promptly froze her to maintain her bodily integrity and the ninja agreed to free Aspheera from prison in order to drain Nya's powers.
A Mayor Problem[]
After unsuccessfully petitioned for Mayor Trustable to release Aspheera, the ninja regrouped in the hangar bay once more, with Zane using his powers to maintain Nya's frozen state while Lloyd and Wu argued over breaking the Serpentine Sorceress out of prison. Ultimately, Wu reluctantly allowed for Lloyd to break Aspheera out of prison, but emphasized his warning that she could not be trusted, and he would have no part in their plan. At that moment, Skylor, whom Lloyd had called earlier, arrived in the hangar to copy Zane's powers to take over for him so that he could accompany Lloyd and Kai to Kryptarium.
Hours later, Skylor struggled to maintain Nya's frozen state as her control over Zane's powers began fading. Alerted by Skylor's strain, P.I.X.A.L. brought out a large air conditioner but noted that they had less than an hour before Nya would defrost and lose her physical form.
Public Enemies 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5![]
Returning to the Monastery with Aspheera, Zane quickly rushed into the hangar bay to relieve Skylor while Lloyd and Kai showed their visitor around. After a warning from Wu, Aspheera was led into the hangar bay where she inspected Nya's frozen state but remarked that she could do nothing without her staff. When Cole and Jay returned empty handed, P.I.X.A.L. contacted Cyrus Borg and asked him about the whereabouts of the staff. Borg then provided the ninja with a detailed itinerary of the armored convoy that would be transporting the staff through Ninjago City in eight hours. In response to this information, P.I.X.A.L. descended deeper into the hangar bay to begin upgrading the ninja's vehicles.
A Painful Promise[]
Wu and P.I.X.A.L. stood in the hangar bay to monitor the ninja's progress in retrieving Aspheera's staff while Skylor continued to maintain the integrity of Nya's frozen state. As the three discussed the ninja's progress with growing concern, Aspheera enjoyed a cup of tea in the hangar bay but grew bored and began wandering about. When Aspheera uncovered the hiding spot of the now powerless Golden Weapons, Wu approached her and asked for her not to make herself at home in the hangar bay. In response to this, Aspheera threatened to leave, having grown impatient and having determined that the ninja have failed to retrieve her staff. As she neared the elevator, Wu reluctantly agreed to entertain her to get her to stay for another forty-five minutes until the ninja returned.
About forty-five minutes later, the ninja returned and provided Aspheera with her staff, though she immediately betrayed them and began firing bolts of magic through the weapon indiscriminately across the hangar bay. This altercation would be halted by the arrival of the New Ninja, who entered through the secret entrance that the ninja had failed to close behind them in their haste. As the ninja now fought against the New Ninja, Aspheera upheld her end of the original deal and began to drain Nya of her elemental powers, unleashing an energy pulse throughout the hangar once she succeeded.
With Nya safe, Lloyd kept his word and led Aspheera to the secret exit so that she could escape then joined the rest of the original four ninja in turning themselves over to the New Ninja, who led them out of the hangar bay and into police custody.
Kryptarium Prison Blues[]
After discovering the blueprints for her old Samurai X mech, Nya drew up some designs for improvements and modifications, then rushed into the hangar bay to show P.I.X.A.L. and to ask for the latter's assistance in constructing a new mech.
The Spider's Design[]
P.I.X.A.L. and Skylor were in the hangar bay, monitoring the ninja's movements through the Ninjago Metro. They would soon be joined by Wu who then informed the ninja about his encounter with Hounddog McBrag.
Sometime later, Nya rushed into the hangar bay just as the others lost contact with the ninja.
The Fall of the Monastery[]
As Wu, Skylor, P.I.X.A.L. and Nya desperately attempted to restore contact with the ninja, they were alerted to the secret elevator being activated. Rushing to the entrance, they watched as several of their old enemies: Pythor, Aspheera, Vangelis, and the Mechanic, stepped out from the elevator. Vangelis then explained that the villains had come to steal the Golden Weapons, leading to a fight with the hangar bay's defenders.
When the battle began to turn in the favor of the hangar bay's defenders, the Council of the Crystal King were backed up by a horde of Crystal Spiders with their superior numbers enabling the Council to defeat the four defenders and steal the Golden Weapons. As they departed from the hangar, the Mechanic primed the Crystal Spiders to self destruct, heavily damaging, if not completely destroying, the hangar bay.

Lloyd led Arin, Sora, and Riyu to the hanger bay where he showed them the unfinished, second Destiny's Bounty. When he admitted he lacked the technical expertise to continue work on the ship, Sora immediately began working on the ship while Lloyd recounted his journey in the years following The Merge to the teenagers. Once the Bounty was ready, the four of them took the ship out of the hanger in search of the Land of the Three Mountains.

Appearance[]
The hangar bay is a large underground base located inside the Mountains of Impossible Height and underneath the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Its main purpose was to act as a garage for P.I.X.A.L.'s Samurai X Mech, the Destiny's Bounty, and the new joint tactical vehicles she built such as the Land Bounty, the Rock Cycle, and the ATV. It was also built to act as a stationary base of operations for the ninja due to all the previous bases being portable or far from the Monastery. Following the destruction of the hangar bay by the Council of the Crystal King,[2] and its partial reconstruction, many stones and boulders were left laying around, unmoved throughout the years, and the supercomputer's main monitor sporting cracks all over until the hangar was finally completely refurbished in the year that followed the MergeQuake Storm.
The hangar is composed of two main platforms accessible via a long footbridge from the entrance that is decorated with a large arch. The platform at the back serving as a control station with the main computer, and the one in the middle mainly is used to park vehicles. This one has a garage below to stock vehicles[3] and also had an hidden compartment to store the Golden Weapons. Their are other triangular and round platforms used to park vehicles and that can be raised and lowered, and smaller elevators on the side of the main platform. There is also a workshop likely below, used by P.I.X.A.L. and the MiniPix to construct vehicles and inventions.[4][5]
To enter the hangar bay, one must hit something at the dartboard which is located inside the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Then one must press the button underneath the dartboard, opening a hidden door leading to an elevator. After that, they scan their hand allowing the elevator to take them down to the hangar bay.
There is a large gate behind the mountain accessible by a large corridor that serves as exit of the hangar for the vehicles.
