Hazza D'ur | Skull of Hazza D'ur |
Hazza D'ur was an evil necromancer from Mysterium who created the dungeons within Shintaro Mountain. After his death, his skull was still able to live with the help of his Dark Magic.[2]
History[]
Background[]
Hazza D'ur was a powerful sorcerer who came from the realm of Mysterium. Centuries before the ninja arrived to Shintaro,[3] Hazza D'ur created the city inside Shintaro Mountain using the Dark Magic. At one point after that, he was vanquished, but his skeletal remains stayed in the Dungeons of Shintaro in a restricted cave near his statue.[4] However, the Dark Magic still remained in his skull, allowing his soul to persist.[5]
Many centuries later, Vangelis learned that in Dungeons of Shintaro the Skull of Hazza D'ur still remains and therefore tasked the Lowly to retrieve it so it could be destroyed to keep Shintaro safe.[5]
The adventurers managed to overcome all the traps and enter the restricted cave, where Hazza D'ur's skull was placed on a pedestal under a large statue. Korgran tried to take it with his hands, but the skull immediately came to life and tried to possess him with the Dark Magic. However, Korgran managed to drop the skull and it remained dormant. Korgran then grabbed the skull with his axe and took it with the others to Vangelis to the palace. Vangelis then asked them if they agree that the skull should be destroyed, and when everyone agreed, he banished them into Rock-Bottom. Hazza D'ur's soul then appeared in the skull again and began to laugh with Vangelis.[5]
Over the following years, Vangelis began using the skull's power and reawaked the deceased warriors to subdue the Munce and Geckles, who began mining Vengestone for him in the Mines of Shintaro.[5]
Master of the Mountain[]
Into the Dark[]
When Vania and Cole entered the Dungeons of Shintaro, Vania told him about how the old city had built a super evil sorcerer many centuries ago, how he had been vanquished, and that his bones still remained in the caves, hoping to find them with Cole.
Later, Hazza D'ur and the Skull Sorcerer left the Skull Keep and punished the Munce and Geckles for stopping mining Vengestone. When Cole arrived to stop the conflict, the Skull Sorcerer ordered the Re-Awakened to capture the Earth ninja. Although Cole was able to beat them, Hazza D'ur brought back the skeletons and watched as Cole was captured.
The Worst Rescue Ever[]
The Skull Sorcerer uses the Skull of Hazza D'ur to revive the previously defeated Awakened Warriors and defeat the ninja.
The Two Blades[]
While searching inside the Skull Keep and looking for the Blades of Deliverance, Lloyd and Cole instead found the Skull of Hazza D'ur covered with a piece of fabric on the pedestal, and Hazza D'ur accused the two as thieves right before the Skull Sorcerer came. Hazza D'ur and the Skull Sorcerer then went after the ninja during their escape until they lost sight of them.
The Skull Sorcerer[]
After Vangelis revealed himself to be the Skull Sorcerer to Cole, Vania and Wu, he opened a secret door on his throne and showed them the Skull of Hazza D'ur, which he had hidden there. Hazza D'ur revealed why the former became the Skull Sorcerer in the first place was to sell Vengestone and keep the Kingdom of Shintaro perfect.
The Real Fall[]
After Vania jumped into the pit, Hazza D'ur informed Vangelis that he had to sacrifice things in order to succeed. Vangelis then returned to his throne and returned the skull to a secret hiding place.
Grief-Bringer[]
While the ninja were convincing the Munce and Geckles to have a truce meeting, Hazza D'ur told the ninja's intentions to Vangelis, telling him that they had survived during their escape from the Skull Keep. Hazza D'ur then told Vangelis that he has to bring back Grief-Bringer to stop the meeting. They then flew to a locked cave in the Dungeons of Shintaro, where the bones of Grief-Bringer, and Hazza D'ur brought them back to life. Hazza D'ur then swore that Grief-Bringer would come for the heroes.
The Darkest Hour[]
Hazza D'ur followed Vangelis as Grief-Bringer and the Re-Awakened trapped the ninja and the two tribes down the Geckle Strong-Cave. After the ninja surrendered themselves for the Munce and Geckles to be free, Hazza D'ur laughs at the tribes and Vangelis lies about his promise, calling them fools.
The Upply Strike Back![]
After the Munce and Geckles were captured along with the ninja, Hazza D'ur repeated what Vangelis said to the ninja about his intentions to take complete control of Shintaro Mountain, which began to annoy them, saying that they were not sure who should they look at whenever the two were talking. Hazza D'ur was then offended by Jay, who called the evil sorcerer to be less ugly than Vangelis.
Later on, Hazza D'ur was with Vangelis during the execution ceremony until it was interrupted by Cole, who fought Vangelis and Hazza D'ur in the battle for Shintaro Mountain. During the battle, Hazza D'ur and Vangelis told Cole about the truth of the Blades of Deliverance, saying that there was nothing special about the two swords.
The Son of Lilly[]
Hazza D'ur and Vangelis continued to fight Cole while telling him about Lilly's lie to the Geckles and Munce. Eventually, Hazza D'ur destroyed the Blades of Deliverance before he and Vangelis prepared to finish him off. Although they were briefly interrupted by Vania, Wu, and the Army of Shintaro, Hazza D'ur began to blast Cole with Dark Magic until the ninja learned how Lilly truly defeated Grief-Bringer.
Hazza D'ur was surprised to see Cole preforming the Spinjitzu Burst and tried to prevent him from doing so. Instead, Hazza D'ur was sucked into the Spinjitzu Burst tornado and having his skull destroyed, being defeated once more.
Legacy[]
After the Sky Folk became inhabitants of Shintaro Mountain, they later learned about Hazza D'ur and told several stories about him and how strong his Dark Magic was, with one of them being about the legend of Hazza D'ur, which was told to Vania many times during her childhood.[4] In addition, Vangelis, who first intended to destroy one of Hazza D'ur's remains so Shintaro could be safe, was eventually encouraged by the evil sorcerer's powers, claiming that they're capable of taking control of the mountain. This in return allowed Hazza D'ur to return to Shintaro Mountain and rule by Vangelis' side throughout the years until the skull's destruction.[5]
Personality[]
During his life, Hazza D'ur was known as an evil sorcerer who used the Dark Magic to build his own city inside Shintaro Mountain. The ways in which he used magic were cruel and twisted, as even after his death he was able to survive through his skull.
Although it is unknown whether Hazza D'ur retained memories of his past life, his true personality remained unchanged. Still cruel and evil, he was able to corrupt anyone by the dark force. He also retained a certain intelligence, as he was able to give advice to Vangelis and was loyal to him in everything. As the skull, he also often repeated his master's words and followed his instructions.
Appearance[]
It is unknown what Hazza D'ur looked like in life, but his skull had a very strange shape, being much larger than that of an ordinary person, which may be due to the early evolution of humans.[6]
The Skull of Hazza D'ur was separated from his body after his death, being sand-green in color. When the skull was active, it glowed a light green color. The appearance of the skull itself was very similar to the heads of the Skulkin and the Re-Awakened, with the jaw attached to the rest of the head and allowing it to open and close. The skull had several green teeth in its mouth, although a few were missing on the right side. In the slits for the eyes, the skull had two green-yellow glowing eyes, the color of which faded to white as the skull used its power. It also had a scar on its right eye and was able to move the slits to create different expressions, although this would not be possible with other skulls.

Behind the scenes[]
- Tommy Andreasen has stated that only he knows the backstory of Hazza D'ur and the Re-Awakened.[7]
- Since Chris "Doc" Wyatt confirmed that Hazza D'ur is from Mysterium, a realm introduced after Tommy Andreasen stopped working on Ninjago, it's unclear who really knows his backstory.
