Plot[]
A few years prior, the ninja arrive at the monastery, having received a message Wu had sent them about having special training that day. Jay walks out of the monastery, pretending to have received the same message. Wu walks out of the monastery and tells the ninja to dance as a form of training much to their dismay. Jay offers Nya a dance and they start to do so together. Jay tells Nya he will love her forever. In the present day, Nya calls Jay's name and pushes through the crowd of Elemental Masters to find him, eventually mistaking a Munce for him, due to his hairstyle. Giving up, Nya runs back to the team and tells Lloyd what she saw. They try to find Jay but do not succeed. Nya starts to doubt what she saw and expresses how much she misses Jay.
The next day, Arin tells Sora he does not believe Zant-Tanz was behind the attacker bot ambush. He states he wants to solve the mystery behind the Matriarch's death by himself and goes with Riyu to hunt for clues. Arin remembers his mother: a young Arin and his mother are sitting on their house's porch. Arin's mother tells him to retrace the steps of the people involved in the mystery. In the present day, Riyu picks up on a scent he smelled the previous night. It leads him and Arin to a wall with a strange symbol on it. Arin copies it down in his notebook. Frak finds Arin and Riyu and they go and get pie together. They talk about the attacker bots and how Arin is a ninja when Riyu becomes suspicious of Frak. They find Wyldfyre looking for Roby when sees him walking with Bleckt. She awkwardly stumbles through a conversation with Roby and he invites her to follow him and his uncle to the Games Plaza. Wyldfyre accepts, and Frak and Arin talk about what they had witnessed. Frak leaves to meet his team and Arin laments his lack of elemental power.
Elsewhere, Cole and Geo are looking at a fruit stand and realize each other's presence. They look around the city together and see the Elemental Earth Mech on display. Cole theorizes the Mech belonged to his mother, Lilly, after he finds out it belonged to a previous master of earth. Somewhere else in the City, Sora stalks Jordana and confronts her about what she said at the banquet. Jordana denies it happened and walks away but stops when Nokt tells her he saw the interaction. Sora watches them talk from afar when Frak runs up to the two. Sora runs back to the Ninja’s quarters to find Arin looking at his notebook. She tells him that Frak is on Ras' side. Riyu believes her but Arin denies it. Lloyd walks in and tells the team they need to head to the Games Plaza. Sora sees Nya kneeling in front of pictures of Kai and Jay before getting up and leaving with the rest of the group.
In the Nether-Space, Kai and Bonzle encounter the remaining members of the Forbidden Five talking to someone. During this encounter, they identify the Forbidden Five member who had previously taken control of Jordana during the Blood Moon ritual, realizing that she wasn't the only one they hadn't saw beforehand. The discovery leads them to realize that three out of the Five were talking to someone that can free them from the outside. Back in the Games Plaza, Bleckt and Roby see many Elemental Masters training. Wyldfyre says hello to Roby before bumping into Cinder. Cinder mocks the ninja and Roby stops Wyldfyre from fighting him. Lloyd and Nya drag her to the rest of the team. Lloyd reminds the ninja the fate of the merged realms rests on their shoulders. Wyldfyre says they should use Rising Dragon to win but Lloyd insists they fight honorably.
Roby flies around and announces Zane and Zur as the first two Elemental Masters competing against one another. Zane believes he will not win but Lloyd tells him to not worry. Bleckt rings the bell and the two start fighting. Zur avoids Zane's attacks with his power of reflex. Zane eventually manages to use his ice power to freeze Zur's leg in place. But before he can land the final blow, the ice melts and Zur gets away. Zur gets a blow on Zane, knocking him down. Roby announces Zur as the winner and uses the Elemental Cup to transfer Zane's power to Zur. Sora makes a remark about the quick speed at which Zane's ice melted. Lloyd starts to doubt his instruction to fight with honor is right but Zane says it is not the ninja way to fight with excessive force.
Roby announces Nya as the next competitor when she sees Jay with the Wolf Clan. Roby announces Jay as the other competitor. Nya is elated to see him but Jay says he has never seen her before in his life. Roby explains the rules of the match, stating the competitor who obtains the dagger first will win. Bleckt rings the bell and the game begins. Nya dodges Jay's attacks and purposely avoids taking clear shots at him. Jay tells Nya he knows she is lying to him about his past. Nya tries to tell him the truth but Jay refutes it, repeating to her what Ras told him happened. Jay puts on a Wolf Mask and Ras shatters his goodness using the Gong and Mallet of Shattering. Jay uses Shatterspin and Nya uses Rising Dragon to counteract it. Nya and Jay race up the tower for the dagger and Nya grabs it, winning the fight. Roby announces Nya as the winner and uses the Elemental Cup to transfer Jay's power to her. Ras expresses his disappointment in Jay's failure. Nya tells Jay she loves him and Jay responds saying he hates her, leaving her heartbroken.
Back in Nether-Space, Kai and Bonzle walk up to the sleeping member's body. Kai tries to wake her up when Bonzle notices Riyu's scales glowing on Kai's arm. She thinks the physical connection with Riyu could allow them to talk to him. In the Games Plaza, Riyu hears Kai in his head.

Trivia[]
Continuity[]
- In the flashback at the start of the episode, Wu has the ninja do some Spin Harmony, which is a callback to the group name that Kai, Jay, Zane and Cole made up in order to win the Blade Cup in "The Royal Blacksmiths."
- This is the first time Jay (excluding Bizarro Jay) is a major antagonist for an episode, as he had a very minor antagonist role in "Rise of the Spinjitzu Master," when he was corrupted by Dark Matter, and he had a larger, but still small antagonist role in "Fugitives From Madness" and "Secrets of the Wyldness".
- Jay is also the third of the original six ninja to be a major antagonist for an episode or season, the first was Lloyd Garmadon in the first four episodes of Rise of the Snakes (prior to joining the ninja team) and most of Possession (albeit while he was possessed by Morro), and the second was Zane in the Ice Chapter of Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu where he became the Ice Emperor of the Never-Realm after he was sent there by Aspheera.
- Jay's turn to the villainous side due to amnesia and manipulation marks the second time this happens to a ninja, with the first being Zane with Vex.
- It is possible that just like in "Secrets of the Wyldness" where Jay appeared to resisted doing his job for a brief moment when Nya mentions he was a Ninja before he disappeared.
- This episode also marks the first time Jay has seen his friends since the Merge.
- It also makes Kai and Jay the only 2 classic ninja not to share a scene since the coalescence so far.
- Jay and Nya's battle for the Dagger during their round is very similar to Jay and Cole fighting for the Jadeblade in "Versus," except this time Jay loses while Nya comes out victorious whereas Jay won last time.
- This episode marks the first time that one of the ninja use Shatterspin, the first ninja being Jay.
- Coincidentally not only was Jay the first of the ninja to learn and use Shatterspin, but he was also the first of the ninja to learn and use Spinjitzu as seen in "The Golden Weapon."
- This episode marks the first appearance of the element of Sound since "Lost in Time," and in present-time since "Ninja Roll."
- Arin realizes Jay Walker is Agent Walker who went missing at The Administration's Department of Reassignment in "The Shape of Motion."
- This is the second time Jay and Nya fight. It is also the second time Jay lost to Nya. the first being "Samurai X-Treme".
- This is the second time Jay and Nya break up, the first being sometime after "Rebooted."
Errors[]
- When Cinder mockingly waves goodbye to Wyldfyre, he is seen wearing Shatterspin armor, despite it not being activated.
- As the ninja rallied behind Zane during his match with Zur, Sora was seen without her headphones.
- After Jay reveals the Wolf Mask, his eyes suddenly change.
