“I'm not surprised to find you in the Landfill of Lost Things. We use this region as a dumping ground for broken experiments. Guess you fit that description.”

Land of Lost Things is the sixteenth episode of the first season of Ninjago: Dragons Rising.

Synopsis[]

In the Land of Lost Things, Nya runs into an old pal while Sora looks for an alternative power source to ward off a junkyard monster called "The Hoarder".[1]

Extended: Cole reunites with Nya to help her and Sora retrieve the purple Dragon Core in the Land of Lost Things. Unfortunately, the core powers a machine keeping Cole's new home with a group of young runaways safe from a monster hunting the land. Sora studies the machine with the help of a new Elemental Master. Back in the Wyldness, Kai teaches Wyldfyre how to treat Heatwave's burns and hopes the younger fire-user realizes she has more to learn.[2]

Plot[]

In the Wyldness, Wyldfyre is worried about Heatwave's injury, until Kai takes off to search for something before Wyldfyre goes after him.

The Hoarder

In the Land of Lost Things, the golem that attacked Nya and Sora immediately stood down as Nya recognized its voice: It was Cole, who immediately comes apart, revealing his normal self. Introduced to Sora and Riyu, Cole explains he woke up in the Land of Lost Things after the Merge and was taken in by a group called the Finders, two members being the children the girls had been chasing. Sora knows of the Land of Lost Things from her time in the Kingdom of Imperium, but thought it was a made up place. Nya and Sora then explain that they came to the Land of Lost Things, looking for the Dragon Core to save the world, amusing Cole. Once a trash geyser went off, Cole leads them away from a creature called the Hoarder, that has been in the land longer than he has. Seeking shelter in a damaged giant noodle cup stand to seek shelter, they come across a purple colored Munce named Geo. As Nya criticizes their retreat, Cole explains the Hoarder reforms stronger before making a tunnel to escape through, even noting the earth doesn't feel right. Exiting through the tunnel, Cole has them watch Geo do something, which made the Hoarder's hand get stuck to the cup before it fell down upon breaking its hand off, something that Sora discovers it is an Elemental Power called Fusion.

The Energy Source

Retreating to their base, Sora remarks some sculptures she dubs amazing, to which Cole explained Geo made them, satisfying her as she explained her parents never understood her interests, and continues doubting if her Technology is still Riyu's. Nya then wonders if the Merge created new Elemental Masters before spotting the Hoarder but was surprised it cannot approach their base. Inside, they meet another member called Bonzle before Cole then explained all the Finders, including Geo, ran away from their homes, forgotten by their people, and cannot leave the Land of Lost Things ever as it is covered by a fog that makes them turn back. Hearing a noise, Cole guides the girls to the cause, a machine that is old Imperium tech, powered by, to the girls' surprise: the Dragon Core they'd been searching for, but Cole won't let them have it, unless there is a new energy source.

Meanwhile, in the Wyldness, Kai tries to look for something among rocks as Wyldfyre believes it to be a waste of time, until Kai reveals he is searching for geodes so he can melt the crystals and apply it to Heatwave's wound. Skeptical, Wyldfyre helps before seeing the wound cool down, something Kai picked up from Wu, leaving Wyldfyre wondering if she might learn more about the former's master.

Imperium's Portal Gate

Back in the Land of Lost Things, at the base, now assigned as the new power source for a new battery Sora plans to make, Geo explains that he left his former home of Shintaro Mountain, due to his uniqueness, neither the Munce or Geckles want him, and doesn't have any memory of his parents, something Sora wished she had.

Cole, Nya, and Jiro search for some parts for Sora's battery, where Nya discovers a part of Imperium's portal gate. While still searching, Jiro gets ambushed by some Imperium Drones, but the Hoarder, sporting a new hand, also arrives, and Nya heads off to help Jiro while Cole distracts the Hoarder. As they fight, Nya tells Cole to turn into a golem, for which he confesses that it can only work with help from Geo's power, astonishing her before they’re forced to retreat.

LaRow has the core

Meanwhile, Dr. LaRow had just captured Zanth and made her way to the Finders' base, where Sora, warned by Bonzle, faces her before Dr. LaRow calls her a broken experiment. She then demonstrates how the drones when combined can make a barrier of energy before eventually holding Sora down while a single drone heads for the core. Geo grabs a broom and fuses it to the drone to try and stop it, only to be remotely tased by Dr. LaRow to let go, and rescued by Cole and Nya aboard Jiro, who rescues Zanth. Without the core, the Hoarder makes its way to the base before Sora discovered it is focused on Imperium tech. With Nya pursuing Dr. LaRow, Cole has Geo boost his powers to change into his golem form, which he tries to explain, but doesn't get the chance. Geo then has Sora help him evacuate the Finders, but she has a better idea. After incapacitating Cole and Zanth, the Hoarder comes across Sora, Riyu, and the Finders before Riyu boosts Sora's power for her to rip the Hoarder's head off, revealing a small blue creature inside before the Finders contain it. Sora explains the creature is called Sweeper, who was supposed to clean out the sewers, but was abandoned. Geo eventually confesses that he cannot power up Cole's as it doesn't work on living things, and kept it hidden, fearing the latter will leave him, but he reassures him as Nya and Jiro return, having lost pursuit of Dr. LaRow, who takes the core back to the Kingdom of Imperium.

Trivia[]

Continuity[]

  • When Cole collapses out of his Golem form the animation of the rocks falling to the ground and Cole emerging from them is similar to "Peek-a-Boo" when Cole did the same thing after possessing the snow to save the other Ninja from rolling off the Wailing Alps.
  • Sora previously remarked how Arin tried to go for Zane's hairstyle in "Writers of Destiny."
  • Cole's use of Earth seems to have evolved into a more powerful version of how he used it in Season 13: Master of the Mountain, as he was easily able to form and throw boulders, utilize his Earth Punch, and form an Elemental Golem against the Hoarder.

Errors[]

  • Sora mentions Cole called Nya by her name, when it never happened in the previous episode.
  • At the beginning of the episode when the Ninja and the Finders are running from the hoarder, there are several shots where Nya, Sora and Riyu aren't seen running behind Cole, Spitz and Fritz.
  • Nya says she never heard of Elemental Powers being shared, when she and Jay did it themselves to create the Hydroelectric Dragon in "Wishmasters."
    • It's possible that when Nya said "sharing", she was thinking of transferring power to someone else, not combining powers like she and Jay had.
  • Like the case with Zane in "The Calm Inside" it is unknown how Cole got his Merge suit since he wasn't found by the Ninja until this episode.
    • It's possible the suit got lost and ended up in the Land of Lost Things, where Cole or one of the Finders eventually found it.
  • At several points throughout the episode, Cole's hair can be seen clipping through his Merge suit whenever he isn't using his mask.
