Ninja vs. Maraay Guards
Uh oh! Looks like the ninja have ran into some Maraay Guards - the guardians of Merlopia! These guys do not, repeat: do not, like surface dwellers.[3]

Etymology
Their name "Maaray" is based on moray eels,[5] but with the syllable "maar" at the beginning, likely derived from the "-maar" suffix used for the members of the Royal Family of Merlopia.
Trivia
- In LEGO Brawls and the Ninja vs. Maraay Guards video, their names are mispelled as "Maraay Guards."
- They are based on moray eels,[5] and despite the resemblance, are not Serpentine.[6][7]
- Despite being eel-like,[8] nevertheless, they share some similarities with snakes.
- They share the same color scheme as Wojira (except for Gripe), who is a sea serpent, and their head shape is also the same as the Pyro Whippers', who are from a Serpentine tribe.
- However, there are still some differences, such as the fact that the Maaray Guards have a black long and thin tongue without a notch, which the Serpentine and other snakes have there.
- Unlike the Pyro Vipers, who have a red inside of their mouth in the show, the inside of the mouth of the Maaray Guards is black. Maaray Guards also have three-dimensional scales, whereas all Serpentine have two-dimensional scales ever since the animation studio was changed from WILFilm ApS to WildBrain.
- Despite being eel-like,[8] nevertheless, they share some similarities with snakes.
- Most of them were deceived into thinking that Trimaar was killed by the ninja. Gripe is the only one who is confirmed to know that Kalmaar was the one who actually killed Trimaar.
- The other two guards who witnessed the murder of Trimaar were immediately killed by Kalmaar.
- After the events of Seabound, the Maaray Guards that were lied to learned the truth about Trimaar's death.
- The minifigures wield a variety of weapons, all with a hilt that resembles Wojira,[4] while in the show, the Maaray Guards all wield the same trident.
- They are very similar to the Army of Shintaro, as both groups guard their respective kingdoms (the Kingdom of Shintaro and Merlopia), take orders from the royal families of their kingdoms (the Royal Family of Shintaro and the Royal Family of Merlopia), and in both groups all members use the same weapon (a naginata and a trident).
- Both the Maaray Guards and the Army of Shintaro were also deceived by corrupt rulers into believing the ninja were their enemies in the show.
- They wear flippers in the sets, although this is not shown in the show.
