The maze of tunnels[1] are a series of underground caverns below Chen's Island for Chen's prisoners. It was guarded by the Anacondrai serpent.
History[]
The Invitation[]
Chen entered the Maze of Tunnels to gloat to Zane outside of the prison cell where the latter had been imprisoned.
Only One Can Remain[]
After brainstorming ideas to discreetly search the island in search of Zane, the Ninja accidentally discovered a way into the Maze of Tunnels through Kai's room. There, they watched as a group of Anacondrai Cultists led by Eyezor marched through the tunnels while chanting. Suspicious, the Ninja ambushed the next group of cultists and stole their uniforms before following them to the Anacondrai Temple where they witnessed Chen drain Karlof of his element of Metal. After being discovered, the cultists pursued the ninja through the Maze of Tunnels, where they encountered the Anacondrai serpent and only narrowly managed to escape.
Versus[]
Zane dreamed within his cell in the Maze of Tunnels before being awakened by a voice calling out to him from the next room. Later that night, Zane, managed to cut himself free of his chains and managed to briefly leave his cell to rescue P.I.X.A.L. from the adjacent cell, only to discover that her body had been scrapped. Fortunately, Zane was able to salvage her neurodrive, but he would be incapacitated seconds later by Clouse, who had been sent to find popcorn for Chen.
Ninja Roll[]
Cole was held inside one of the cells in the Maze of Tunnels after having his element drained. He would briefly be released from his cell to be put to work in the Noodle factory. Later, Zugu led Karlof, Cole, and a group of other imprisoned noodle shop workers through the Maze of Tunnels. Cole would briefly hold up the line after hearing Zane's voice from behind one of the prison cells, much to Zugu's confusion. Fortunately, Karlof was able to buy Cole a few seconds by claiming he was tying his shoe, though Zugu was rather quick to realize that none of the prisoners had shoes. After checking to make sure Cole was still chained, Zugu resumed leading the prisoners through the tunnels.
Spy for a Spy[]
An Anacondrai Cultist entered the Maze of Tunnels after receiving a tray of fortune cookies to be delivered to the banquet that was being held for the remaining Elemental Masters in the tournament.
Later, Cole would be thrown into a cell in the maze after causing a commotion in the noodle factory, but unbeknownst to Zugu, Cole had intentionally caused a ruckus in order to steal Zugu's keys, allowing him to free Zane from his cell as well. After Zugu discovered Cole's deception, he quickly informed Clouse of Cole's escape. In response, Clouse ordered for the release of the Anacondrai Serpent to hunt down the escaped elemental masters. The serpent would pursue the two elemental masters as they aimlessly wandered through the Maze of Tunnels, but the two managed to escape from the serpent when Zane deployed his Explosive shurikens to blow a hole through the ground.
As Cole and Zane rounded another tunnel, they overheard Kapau and Chope talking about a captured spy as well as how the rest of the imprisoned elemental masters would suffer Chen's wrath over Cole and Zane's escape. When Zane urged Cole to hurry, as they were just about to escape from the maze, Cole refused, stating that they could not let the rest of the imprisoned elemental masters suffer for their escape, stressing that either all of them escape, or none of them do.
Spellbound[]
Zugu and multiple Cultists entered the Maze of Tunnels in search of Cole and Zane, whom they suspected may still have been on the island. Moments after their entrance, two other cultists brought Dareth to the Noodle Factory through the maze.
The Forgotten Element[]
After capturing all of the remaining Elemental Masters, save Lloyd, the Cultists led them to the Anacondrai Temple through the Maze of Tunnels. After their powers were drained, all minus Kai were taken through the maze again to be put to work in the Noodle Factory.
At nightfall, Lloyd infiltrated Chen's Palace, intent on defeating the mad warlord. As Lloyd ran down a hallway however, he plummeted through a trapdoor and landed in the Maze of Tunnels where he was then briefly pursued by the Anacondrai Serpent before running into Kai who led Lloyd down under corridor. Unbeknownst to Lloyd however, Kai was leading him back to the palace's main foyer where Chen waited to challenge the green ninja in the final round of the tournament.
Following Chen's victory over Lloyd, Nya and Garmadon were imprisoned in a room full of bones located within the Maze. After briefly taunting the two, Chen, Clouse, Kai, and Skylor departed the room through the maze. Meanwhile, the Elemental Masters imprisoned in the Noodle Factory unveiled the completed Roto Jet, using its weapon systems to escape the factory into the maze. The jet would soon make its way to the bone room, liberating Nya and Garmadon while killing the Anacondrai Serpent in the process.
Following the defeat of the Cultists during the Battle in the Ceremony Room, Chen managed to escape alongside Clouse, Eyezor, Zugu, Kapau, Chope, and a captive Skylor by descending down a hidden corridor, taking them deeper into the Maze of Tunnels.
LEGO Dimensions (non-canon)[]
Batman, Wyldstyle, Gandalf, and Lex Luthor entered the Maze of Tunnels of pursuit of Chen and the Staff of Elements.
