The Mountain Dragons are a tribe of dragons that lived in the Land of the Three Mountains. Seeking refuge from an attack by the Claws of Imperium, they relocated to the World Forest. After the Battle of the Second Monastery, one green-eye Mountain dragon decided to move to the Monastery of Spinjitzu with the ninja.

History[]

Background[]

After the Merge, a Dragon Matriarch with a strong aversion towards humans assumed the role of leader for the Mountain Dragons during their time in the Land of the Three Mountains.[2] Years passed, and during that time, Riyu was born. What set him apart from the rest was his extraordinary dragon energy. Recognizing the value of Riyu for his own agenda, Ras endeavored to capture him,[3] with the added benefit of capturing the entire Mountain Dragon herd.[4]

Dragons Rising, Season 1[]

Following Riyu's abduction, Lloyd, Arin, and Sora successfully orchestrated the rescue of the dragon, only to uncover the intentions of the Claws of Imperium, who sought to capture the Mountain Dragons. Determined to safeguard them, the ninja embarked on a journey to the Land of the Three Mountains. However, their arrival was met with a confrontation from the Dragon Matriarch, who accused them of being dragon hunters, mistakenly believing that they had led the Claws of Imperium to the Mountain Dragons. Despite the initial misunderstanding, the ninja managed to prove their innocence by actively assisting in the protection of the Mountain Dragons. However, as their presence had attracted dragon hunters, the Dragon Matriarch made a decision to relocate the Mountain Dragons to a safer sanctuary. Riyu made a choice to remain with the ninja in Ninjago. Recognizing Riyu's connection to the Mountain Dragons, the Dragon Matriarch informed Lloyd that Riyu would know where to locate and reunite with the Mountain Dragons whenever the need arose.[5]

A green-eye Mountain Dragons was captured by the Claws of Imperium to be drain to power the city but it was freed by the Ninja and decided to stay in the monastery. Lloyd and Arin rode this dragon as the ninja stopped a MergeQuake and saved some citizens in the Crossroads. It later went with the Ninja to the World Forest.

Dragons Rising, Season 2[]

Arin, Riyu, and Sora encountered the Matriarch Mountain Dragon severely injured and her Crowns of Horns were stolen. They tried to help her but she died due to her injuries. When the other Ninja arrived, she gave the ninja a map to the City of Temples where the Tournament of the Sources would be held and warn Lloyd that the Source Dragons were in danger. The ninja then find her child and take her to the herd to be the next leader. When the Ninja went to find the other Mountain Dragons, they were confronted by the Freebooters but three Mountain Dragons manage to scare them off.
