Munce are a subterranean tribe of green brutes led by Queen Murtessa. They are enemies of the Skull Sorcerer and friends with the Geckles and the Ninja.
History
Into the Dark
The Munce are seen mining Vengestone along with the Geckles and Minos. When Cole attempts to save everyone, the Munce watch as Cole is taken down by the Awakened Warriors.
The Worst Rescue Ever
While the Munce are working, Cole asks Murt how long he's been working, but he gives a redundant answer.
When Cole gets another chance to talk to Murt, Gliff tells Cole to not trust him which causes a staredown between the two tribes.
The Ninja arrive and free everyone, but the Geckles and Munce fight each other which doesn't allow anyone to escape.
The Two Blades
While the Munce are working, Gliff explains to the Ninja why they dislike the other tribe and it all comes down to the Blades of Deliverance. Lloyd then promises to the Munce they will get their blade back as long as the two won't fight.
The Ninja free everyone and the Munce are able to escape.
Queen of the Munce
Murt leads the Ninja and the Munce to their home where they meet Queen Murtessa. She shows affection for Jay, but not for Nya, calling her a "Yang Servant".
While eating, Murtessa continues to flirt with Jay and asks if she can be his partner, but Nya interjects herself and claims Jay is her partner. Murtessa challenges Nya to a duel, and she agrees.
At first, it seemed as if Nya would lose; however, she performs Spinjitzu, and knocks Murtessa out. The Munce realize this and declare Nya as the new queen.
Grief-Bringer
Nya tries to get the attention of the Munce, but they are fighting each other. She then uses her Elemental Powers, and they pay attention. She tells the group they will meet with the Geckles and have a truce meeting regardless of what the Munce believe.
They arrive at the truce point, but they stare down the Geckles. After calming the situation, they hear Grief-Bringer, so they retreat.
The Darkest Hour
The Munce make it back to the Geckle Strong-Cave, but the Geckles are upset that the Munce are with them. They begin to argue with each other until the Skull Sorcerer poses a deal to them. They decline the offer, so Grief-Bringer and the Awakened Warriors attempt to destroy the door.
While the Munce are hiding in fear, Nya finds rocks covering something, so she tells everyone about it, but it requires them to work together to remove the rocks. They are able to remove the rocks but realize it isn't another exit. Gluch apologizes for getting everyone into this mess and Murtessa also apologizes for her actions. Kai and Nya then declare peace before the Skull Sorcerer arrives.
The Ninja decide to turn themselves in in exchange for the Geckles and Munce's freedom, but the Skull Sorcerer double-crosses and captures the Geckles and Munce.
The Upply Strike Back!
After being captured, Munce are back to working in the mines. While working, Fungus and Korgran sneak in and give everyone the keys to liberate themselves, but they must wait until he gives the signal. After they get the signal, the Munce undo their chains, and Gluch and Murtessa both fought off the Awakened Warriors. The Munce fight alongside the Upply, Geckles, and the Ninja.
The Son of Lilly
The Munce help the Geckles, Upply, and Ninja fight the Awakened Warriors and Grief-Bringer. Despite being overwhelmed, they receive aid from Vania, Wu, and the Winged Guards of Shintaro. When Cole unlocks the Spinjitzu Burst, they all watch Vangelis being taken away by his former guards.
The Munce celebrate at the Kingdom of Shintaro. They all watch Vania becoming queen and promising for equality. The Munce then watch the Ninja leave especially Murtessa who hugs Jay.
Known Munce
Official Description
These big green brutes love anything that shines or glistens. When duelling, they roll into their opponents' legs like a bowling ball! They love knocking Geckles over, because they think they stole their Blade of Deliverance.
LEGO Life
Sworn enemies of the Geckles, whom they believe to have stolen their Shadow Blade of Deliverance (one of the Two Blades of Deliverance). They're not the sharpest tools in the mines. To keep things simple, all Munce names begin with the letter "M" but (yes, you guessed it) it can cause misunderstandings. Led by Queen Murtessa, they dig for shiny objects like diamonds, gems, and crystals, which they value above all else. The Munce have a very particular fighting style - they roll up into balls and attack their enemies' feet.
Trivia
- According to 65th issue of the Ninjago Magazine, the Munce have a special technique where they curl up into a ball and thus hit the legs of their opponents.
- This was first shown in "Queen of the Munce."
- They are presented as enemies in the sets. However, in the Play Guide and TV series, they are said to be against the Skull Sorcerer.
- The hair pieces used by the unnamed Munce originate from the following characters: Albus Dumbledore, Aquaman, B.A. Baracus, Elsa, Kanan Jarrus, Hanzo, Hunter Orc, Moana, and Qui-Gon Jinn.
