Noncanon "That's not what happened at all!"

This topic is considered non-canon because it's set in the Dream World of a separate series.

“No. I'm sure we're here for a reason. This may be one of Master Wu's strange lessons. We need to stay vigilant and alert.”
Lloyd

Ninjago - Dream Team is a crossover episode of Ninjago and DREAMZzz.

Synopsis[]

When the Ninja find a young boy, Jan, under attack by strange shadow creatures, they leap into action. But their fighting skills prove useless against their new enemies' powers and Jan is captured.

Just as hope begins to fade, the dream chasers arrive to help. Together, they turn the tide, only to discover they're actually in Jan's dream. Now, united with the dream chasers, the Ninja must free Jan and the dream world from the sinister Nightmare King.[1]

Plot[]

The ninja ride in their vehicles along the rice field together before Jay breaks the silence by admitting that he had no idea how they got there or where they are going. To this statement, the other ninja agree. Lloyd states that for whatever reason they are there, they must stay alert and vigilant.

Soon after, the Ninja observe the sky turn red, to which Lloyd remarks that whatever is coming must be what the ninja are there to stop. They soon come across a small village where a group of four children are under attack by shadow creatures. One child, named Jan, claims to be the exalted emperor of Ninjago. The ninja start to take down the creatures, which disintegrate upon being struck before Kai approached the kids, with Jan calling him the Master of Wind, confusing the former before he tries to demonstrate on some creatures, but to his surprise, Wind came out.

Soon, some creatures with cages for their chests arrive and the ninja start to use their powers to draw them back, but because Kai no longer has Fire, the Sword of Fire doesn't respond to him before he and Lloyd head off to evacuate the villagers before one of the creatures head for Jan, and Kai tries to hold it back, only for the creature to grab them and puts them in its cage. Suddenly, the process is rewinded, and Lloyd believes it is a Master of Time before a young girl on a cat-owl creature arrives to get Kai and Jan to safety before introducing herself as Zoey and the creature she was riding as Zian. When Jay tries to question her about her title, Dream Bandit, she blows it off before answering Nya's question about the creatures before asking them about their Spinjitzu move, which they do, but Kai is unable to do it. As they took down the caged beasts, some wolves and flying creatures approach them. Zoey then decided to call in her cavalry, who arrive before three kids came out, dissatisfying Zane before Mateo, the boy with the cape, conjures Z-Blob, his companion, into robot armor while Izzie, the girl with pink hair, conjures her plushie, Bunchu, into a large blue rabbit, leaving them confused. Cole believing they're Masters of Sand and Zane going haywire. Soon, they start to take on the creatures while Logan, the boy with the hat and sports jacket, joins Cooper, the boy driving the car, to man the car's cannon and shoot the creatures. Still confused, the Ninja eventually join in with Kai still unable to use the Sword of Fire. Jay then overheard Jan telling his friends about a Ninjago marathon before hearing Mateo and Zoey call the flying creatures Night Terrors, and being unable to wake up and cross over, and Izzie mentioning the name, Nightmare King. Suddenly, a flying ship with a shark figurehead emerges from the clouds, manned by the Night Hunter, a dark creature with a hook for his left hand, accompanied by Sneak, Snivel, and Susan, all creatures with different appearances. The Night Hunter looks down upon Jan for the Nightmare King to have an audience with him before Sneak fires a grappling hook to hook Jan up, with another kid being dragged along trying to save him before Zoey and Zian try to save him, only to be forced back by Night Terrors, a creature freezing up Nya's mech, forcing her to eject, and the caged beast she was fighting grabs another kid.

Regrouping, Izzie started to express to the Ninja that she is a fan and watched every episode ten times, confusing them. Logan soon tells them that they're in a dream, shocking Jay, who demands an explanation. Mateo tries to remind them of the situation while turning Z-Blob into a drone, but Zane sides with Jay before the kid that managed to get away began to explain that Jan and his friends were watching a Ninjago marathon, even saying wind is a much more efficient source of power than fire, sustainable and unpolluted before falling asleep, essentially creating the realm.

This got everyone to discover they are all in Jan's dream. Logan then started to tease Kai about having Wind instead of Fire, and retorts it as hot air. As Jay began to rant about not being real and wanted to know more about the Nightmare King, Zoey reminds him about the situation before having Cole ride with her, Kai and Logan go with Mateo, Jay with Izzie on Bunchu, to his annoyance, and Lloyd, Zane, and Nya with Cooper to pursue the caged beasts while Zoey and Mateo's group will pursue the shark ship to prevent it reaching the end of the realm. Kai asks Mateo about Jan, to which he believes the Nightmare King wants to be Ninjago's emperor, leaving it unsafe to dream about it.

The Night Hunter tries to pressure Jan for his empire and demands who the ninja were, but the latter becomes emotional, leading the former to question the other kid before becoming surprised by her answer and soon wished to use them once the Nightmare King can govern them with Snivel and Susan wanting Kai for his Fire.

Izzie and Cooper's teams pursue the Grimkeepers, Night Terrors, and wolves to save the captured kid with Izzie ranting to Jay about her fandom while he is bounced about from sitting in the back of Bunchu. Nya uses the car's cannon to take out the Night Terrors and wolves to reach the Grimkeeper holding the kid hostage before Zane slows it down and Lloyd jumps onto it. Jay, while taking on the creatures, complains about his oncoming illness before Izzie warns him not to regurgitate on Bunchu.

While pursuing the shark ship, Logan continues to tease Kai about his powers before the latter blows off his hat, enraging him that he becomes a short blue beast, amusing Kai. Mateo then stops them from arguing even more to remind them of their situation as the ship is too far for them before Cole explains they have destiny on their side, confusing Mateo, Logan, and Zoey.

As the ship continued making its way to the edge, it is suddenly rammed by something and the Night Hunter sees it was the Destiny's Bounty, piloted by P.I.X.A.L. before Wu faces him, amusing the Night Hunter due to his age, who retorts back about his appearance before ordering Night Terrors to take the Bounty down.

Back on the ground, Izzie and Cooper's teams take down the last of the Night Terrors, Grimkeepers, and wolves as Lloyd frees the kid before they eventually regroup and he notes the battle is in the air.

Wu takes on the Night Terrors as some manage to corrupt the sails while Mateo drops Logan on the shark ship, where he takes down some creatures with ease. Suddenly, the Night Terrors take down a thruster on the Bounty, which started to fall. With Zoey's watch needing time to recharge, Kai and Mateo head for the ground, just below the Bounty before Kai uses his Wind power to keep the Bounty in the air, Z-Blob inside it to use his propellors for extra propulsion, Jay's Lightning for boost, and Mateo crafting him to become larger, until the thruster was fixed.

Seeing the entire thing, the Night Hunter takes his anger on the kid, who explains it was because of Jan, who continues his opinion on wind being more efficient before Logan frees them, takes down the Night Hunter, Sneak, Snivel, and Susan, and has Zoey pick them up once they jump off the ship, with the Bounty ramming the shark ship into the cloud, out of the realm.

As the sky returns to normal and the Bounty takes off, Z-Blob reverts to normal and lands on an exhausted Kai and Logan turns back to normal before the former heads for Jan, who believes he was going to attack him, only to use his Wind to straighten his crown before Jan and the kids disappear. With Ninjago safe, both groups start to say their goodbyes, but will meet each other again whenever they're free.

In the Real World, Cooper joins up with Mateo, Izzie, Logan, and Zoey, expressing his tiredness before coming across Jan, who starts to rant about wanting to dream up more franchises.

Trivia[]

  • It's Ninjago's second crossover with LEGO DREAMZzz after the Will you enter the Dream World? mini movies.
    • In contrast to the mini-movies, the ninja are shown as figments of Jan's dreams rather than the dreamers themselves.
  • Logan says Kai has a dumb voice, which is a play on them both being voiced by Vincent Tong.
  • This was the last Ninjago project that Tommy Andreasen had a major role in (having written it).
    • He stated this is because he was "the one that was available to do it."[2]

Cultural references[]

Continuity[]

Errors[]

  • Despite being an ordinary Dreamer, Jan managed to successfully create a Dream Realm and the Ninja. However, intricate dream crafting requires the use of an hourglass, which enables the user to harness a greater amount of Dreamsand. Additionally, in "The Rift," Phil mentioned that only Dreamkeepers possess the ability to create a Dream Realm, but they would be overwhelmed by the immense energy and strain that it put on them.
    • It's possible that, like Logan, Jan has the ability to build off of other Dreamers' dreams and dream creatures--thereby explaining how he was able to bring Ninjago into the picture.
  • When Zoey was pursuing the Nightmare Galleon, Zian got knocked down by a Night Terror, even though being touched by one would turn the victim into a Night Terror too. Zoey also pointed this out when she warned the ninja about the Night Terrors.
  • In a scene in the Finnish dub, Cole speaks with Kai's voice and Kai speaks with Zane's voice.
  • Max states to the Night Hunter that Lloyd is half-dragon and half-oni, despite the fact Lloyd is half-human from his mother's side.
