Rise of the Snakes

The following is a list of all the themes introduced in the first season of Ninjago, as well as tracks from the season featuring them.

Serpentine theme[]

The Serpentine theme is often played on strings and evokes a mysterious and sinister feeling. The theme represents the Serpentine tribes introduced in Season 1, as well as the Pyro Vipers in Season 11.

The Postman's theme[]

The Postman's theme is often played on flute. It is calm, playful, and somewhat bored-sounding, as represents the Postman's long and tedious journeys to deliver mail, such as when he has to climb up the Mountain of Impossible Height to get to the Monastery of Spinjitzu.

The theme has been reprised numerous times since it was introduced to accompany the Postman's appearances, up to season thirteen. It is exemplified in the track "Trouble Around the Corner" and also appeared in the track "Ninjaball Run." It also appeared in a more heroic and exciting rendition in "Awakening the Devourer" even though the Postman was not involved in the scene.

The Mailman[]

The beginning of this track, which first appeared in "Home," has been used a number of times to accompany an "establishing shot" of the ninja's whereabouts, such as the Destiny's Bounty in "Never Trust a Snake" (and "Tick Tock," to a lesser extent), Wu's Academy in "The Surge," and Garmadon's monastery in "The Art of the Silent Fist."

Samurai X theme[]

This theme was originally used whenever Nya appeared in her Samurai X form. It has a jaunty and exciting sound to it, as the appearance of Samurai X would often mean the ninja were saved from a perilous situation. Some tracks featuring this theme include "Ninja vs. Samurai" and " Torchfire Mountain". This original theme was later reprised in Crystalized, upon Nya resuming the mantle of said title.

The theme was later was adopted by P.I.X.A.L., the new Samurai X, and electronic-sounding drums were added to match P.I.X.A.L.'s digital characteristic.

A new rendition played when the ninja trained in the Royal Palace in "The Jade Princess", and in "Questing for Quests" and "A Big Splash", although the scenes that the theme was used in were not connected with Samurai X.

Zane's theme[]

Zane's theme serves as the theme for Dr. Julien and his son, Zane. The theme sounds nostalgic, and is notably played with strings as a waltz and with a celesta. The theme is exemplified by tracks such as "Zane and the Tinkerer Reunite" and "The Memory Switch" (alternatively the first half of "Zane's True Potential", as it was released in the official Season 1 soundtrack album).

The theme has also been reprised in other tracks. In Season 3, it was reprised in "Borg Industries" with a techno feel to it. In the season finale, a vocal rendition (sung by Allie Feder) was used in "Built To Protect" when Zane was looking back at his memories. In Season 11, an evil-sounding rendition was frequently played to represent the Ice Emperor, often hidden in the bass line to make its presence as Zane's theme less obvious.

Zane's True Potential[]

While the first half of this track is all Zane's theme (played on strings as a waltz), the latter portion of this track accompanied Zane's True Potential in "Tick Tock," and was later used for Jay's True Potential in "One Bitten, Twice Shy," Cole's True Potential in "The Royal Blacksmiths," Kai's True Potential in "The Green Ninja," and twice when the ninja are combating the Great Devourer in "Day of the Great Devourer" (first in the junkyard with the Ultra Sonic Raider, later in Ninjago Park). This is not a theme, just a recurring track.

Green Ninja theme[]

The Green Ninja theme, while initially representative of the concept of the Green Ninja, has come to double as a theme for Lloyd Garmadon himself, given he is the Green Ninja. Its melody bears significant similarity to the Overture melody. It is often played on flute or horns, though it was played on bowed strings in the credits of The Spider's Design to represent Lloyd's more sinister state. The track "Revealing The Green Ninja" embodies various versions of the theme.

Garmadon family theme[]

The Garmadon family theme serves to represent Garmadon and his dynamics with his family members, most often his connection with Lloyd. It has been played on strings, brass, and even flute throughout the course of the entire series. The theme often carries a melancholy or emotional weight with it. Tracks featuring this motif include "A Family Divided," "Horns of Destruction," "Something's Gotten Into Lloyd," and the climax of "Cursing Chen's Army", and "Garmadon's True Potential". Repeated sections of "This Doesn't End Now" also feature a variation of this melody.

Lloyd Garmadon's theme[]

Lloyd Garmadon's theme served as the theme for Lloyd's "evil" side when he tried to emulate Garmadon. The theme has a mischievous feeling to it and is played on ukulele. The theme has not been used to represent Lloyd since his becoming the Green Ninja, as the Green Ninja theme now represents him. The tracks "Pythor P. Chumsworth," "Lloyd Unleashes the Serpentine" and "Battle in Jamanakai Village" exemplify Lloyd's theme. The rock music Lloyd plays from the radio in Snakebit is also his theme.

Pythor's theme[]

Pythor's theme has been reprised numerous times throughout the series to represent Pythor. The theme is played on deep strings, sounding rather deceptive and sinister. The tracks "Pythor P. Chumsworth" and "Pythor's Betrayal" exemplify Pythor's theme.

Falcon theme[]

The Falcon theme serve as the theme for Zane's ally, the Falcon. The Falcon theme is prominently played with strings in a fast-paced manner. The theme has appeared various times throughout the series' run. It is exemplified by the track "Falcon Chase." A new rendition with a more electronic feel of the theme is present in the scoring of "Snake Jaguar".

The Great Devourer's theme[]

The Great Devourer's theme serves as the theme for the Great Devourer. The theme has an eerie and almost tribal feeling, often featuring deep chants, heavy percussion, and brass. The theme is exemplified by tracks such as "Awakening the Devourer" and "Taking the Bait." The Devourer's theme has appeared several times in the series after Season 1. For example, elements of it were used in season three in the track "Curse of the Golden Master", and it was played in Season 8 in the Oni cave after Harumi's backstory.

Taking the Bait[]

Composed for the scene in "Day of the Great Devourer" where the ninja are leading the Great Devourer in a chase through the city, this track contains more frantic and epic elements to the music, using several brass instruments. This has been used in a few of the season finales, along with scenes such as the Ninja Replacements chasing the Sky Pirates through Ninjago City in "Operation Land Ho!" and the flashback to Harumi's childhood in "Game of Masks," which featured the Devourer's attack.
