Nya is the Water Ninja, and one of the six Ninja trained by Master Wu. She is Kai's sister. She drove the Water Mech.
History[]
The LEGO Ninjago Movie[]
Nya rode her motorcycle to school, driving the bike through the hallways and startling many other students who had to dive out of the way as she skidded to a stop in front of her friends, leaving a long trail of skid marks. After greeting them and her brother, Kai, Nya proudly showed off her bike's new paint job featuring a stylized image of Lady Iron Dragon, whom she idolized. As she stressed that she painted the image herself, Chad and two cheerleaders, including one Nya had startled moments earlier, interrupted to wish Lloyd a happy birthday with their new hit song: Boo Lloyd. After Chad and his cohorts left, Nya and her friends went to their Social Studies class.
When news of Garmadon's latest attack on Ninjago City reached the school, Nya and her friends all simultaneously asked for a bathroom pass, during which Nya leaped out of her seat and onto Jay's desk with excitement. After their requests were granted, Nya grabbed her bike and raced to her locker alongside her friends, driving straight into the locker. In reality, Nya and the others were the Secret Ninja Force, the protectors of Ninjago City. Upon arriving at the warehouse where they stored their mechs, Nya struggled a bit to change into her ninja suit but managed to finish just as her brother finished his role call and passed the baton to her. After activating her Water Mech, Nya waited for the others to prepare their mechs as well, briefly expressing frustration with Cole's laidback pace. Once all six ninja were ready, Lloyd ordered Nya to cover the City's waterways, to which she acknowledged by remarking that water was a "dangerous and fascinating environment." In her assigned portion of the city, Nya fought against the Shark Army's forces with her mech's water shooters.
Following their victory over Garmadon's forces, Nya awkwardly expressed her sympathy for Lloyd for his earlier emotional outburst towards his father. As she comforted her friend, she emphasized that no one's parents were perfect, leading Jay to chime in. Moments later though, Cole changed the topic by pointing out that Destiny's Bounty had returned, indicating the return of Master Wu. In the ensuing conversation, Wu revealed that Nya possessed the elemental power of water before ordering her and the others to begin practicing spinjitzu for three hours.
The next day, Garmadon attacked Ninjago City once more. Just like yesterday, Nya was assigned to patrol the waterways. As the battle progressed, things played out differently this time however as Garmadon was able to defeat Lloyd and his Green Ninja Mech Dragon. With Lloyd incapacitated and with the entirety of the Secret Ninja Force, including Nya, busy protecting their respective territories, no one was able to stop Garmadon from scaling Ninjago Tower and declaring victory. Following Lloyd's reckless usage of the Ultimate Weapon, Nya became the third victim of Meowthra's rampage and was forced to abandon her Water Mech, whose wreckage became a plaything for the giant feline. In the immediate aftermath of the rampage, Nya furiously told Lloyd that she and the others barely survived as a result of his recklessness, bemoaning the fact that the cat was now destroying the rest of the city as well.
After Wu announced that he would journey to the Temple of Fragile Foundations to retrieve the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon alone, Nya and the rest of the Secret Ninja Force begged their master to allow them to help, with Nya emphasizing that they had the potential to become great ninja. When Wu relented, he asked the ninja if they were willing to give Lloyd a second chance, to which Nya flat out said was too soon while her brother bluntly refused. Later, as Wu and the Secret Ninja Force journeyed to the Jungle of Lost Souls, Nya was shown being the most cautious throughout the climb, meticulously taking her time to minimize personal injury as the group pushed forward and holding back the rest of the team when she realized that Jay was being swarmed by spiders.
Some time later, Wu began to teach a lesson to the Secret Ninja Force, but ended prematurely after he sensed the presence of his brother, ordering his ninja to hide. Not quite sure what to do, Nya stood behind two poles of bamboo and held two smaller pieces horizontally in front of her face, but allowing enough of a gap for her eyes to peek out from between. When Wu's plunged from the Bridge of Fallen Mentors, Nya gasped in horror and clutched her brother's shoulders. Left without a choice but to press forward with Garmadon as their new master, Nya helped to carry the cage he was imprisoned in, specifically carrying the right front. As they traversed through the jungle, Nya mostly listened while the others engaged in conversation with Garmadon, only occasionally commenting. Eventually, the group reached a fork in the road and Nya read aloud the sign which identified one path as being long and arduous, and the other being a shortcut. Ultimately, the group chose to take the shortcut though Nya began expressing doubts after seeing the piles of skeletons and bones scattered within the Canyon of General Unhappiness. There, the Secret Ninja Force were attacked by the Lost Generals who were hungry for revenge against Garmadon for firing them out of a volcano. As a fight broke out to protect Garmadon from the wrath of his former subordinates, Lloyd urged for his friends to remain calm and attempted to remind them of Wu's teachings, pointing out to Nya that according to Wu, she could create a flood. In response, Nya derided Lloyd's suggestion by noting that if there was going to be a flood anytime soon, it would occur when Jay next wets his pants. Ultimately, she and the rest of the Secret Ninja Force would be overwhelmed and defeated by the former generals who then captured Lloyd and Garmadon while ignoring the rest of the Secret Ninja Force.
After recovering from their battle with the Lost Generals, Nya checked in on Zane to make sure he was okay and was the first to realize that Lloyd and his father were captured by the Lost Generals. Disappointed by her and her friends' actions, Nya rallied the Secret Ninja Force to infiltrate the Lost Generals' Lair. To prepare for their infiltration, she asked Zane to give them all a sped up review of the seven hundred gigabytes of martial arts movies he had stored, remarking afterwards that she had learned so many things so fast. As the ninja then infiltrated the lair of the Lost Generals, Nya dove into the river and splashed around while mimicking a whale to divert the attention of the outer guards, who she then pulled underwater. After venturing deeper into the lair, Nya knocked out a crab helmeted general and stole his headgear, using it for her disguise. After saving her allies, Garmadon ordered the Secret Ninja Force to begin building a method for them to escape while he and his son would toss them the parts needed to build, with Nya later complimenting Lloyd on his throwing. As the group now rode to the Temple of Fragile Foundations aboard their hastily crafted helicopter, Nya sat in the back with her brother and fist bumped with him.
After arriving at the Temple of Fragile Foundations, Nya was the second to reach the front door and offhandedly asked for Garmadon to at least give them the first letter of the "four letter word" he said he would utter if they ever saw that goat again. Upon entering the temple, Nya spotted what appeared to be a bowl of fresh fruit and rushed ahead to grab an apple. Unfortunately, the apple turned out to be a decoration made from plastic and Nya moaned that she might've chipped a tooth after taking a big bite out of it. After all the ninja gathered together around a wall filled with family portraits, Nya mentioned she thought that baby Wu looked cute with his tiny goatee. She then gasped after noticing the portrait depicting Garmadon and Lady Iron Dragon fighting side by side and listened briefly to Garmadon's story of how they met before joining the rest of her team in looking for the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon. After directing Lloyd and Garmadon to one of the bedrooms, Nya eagerly awaited the unveiling of the chest containing the mythical weapon, though her eagerness quickly soured when the chest turned out to be full of parts which she immediately derided as a bunch of junk. Her tune changed however, when Lloyd realized that the parts represented each of the elements the ninja possessed, exclaiming, "H2Ohhhhh yeah!" When it seemed as if Garmadon was about to betray the ninja, Nya briefly exchanged a knowing look with her brother and later lunged at the chest with the conqueror made his intentions known. She would unfortunately miss the chest by a few inches and Garmadon would then knock her back with a direct kick in the face, angering Kai. Nya then helped launch her brother into the air as he tackled Garmadon and then flipped him to the ground. In the ensuing chaos, the Secret Ninja Force attempted to keep the chest away from Garmadon by tossing it to one another, with the chest landing into Nya's hands as she passed it next to Lloyd. Regrettably, Lloyd never learned how to catch and missed the throw, giving Garmadon the opportunity to snatch it and escape.
With Garmadon's departure destabilizing the Temple of Fragile Foundations and causing it to begin collapsing, Nya took shelter behind a small, round table alongside Jay and hugged him as they braced for their last moments. Fortunately however, Lloyd realized that all of them already possessed their elemental powers, and they didn't need the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon, but rather had to achieve inner peace in order to access them. Thanks to Lloyd's coaching, Jay blasted open the doors to the temple, allowing the ninja to escape. Nya then combined her powers over water with Zane's powers over ice to create an ice bridge across the damaged staircase, allowing the Secret Ninja Force to escape onboard Destiny's Bounty where they were reunited with Wu who revealed he had faked his death.
After returning to Ninjago City, Nya high-fived her brother before leading the ninja to the city's waterways where she used her elemental powers to rapidly run across the water's surface while carrying her friends atop her shoulders in an effort to reach Garmadon as quickly as possible. Later, she and the rest of the Secret Ninja Force stood in formation and watched while Lloyd approached Meowthra alone and saved Garmadon. Some time after Garmadon's reform, Nya opened up a school alongside her hero, Lady Iron Dragon, to help the former members of the Shark Army reintegrate into society.
Appearance[]
Nya's appearance is relatively the same as her TV show counterpart. She has a new light-gray Ninja gi and has now been given a mole that Jay refers to as "a mark of eternal beauty." She also now has ponytail hair, which is actually a little wild, held up by a gray scrunchy.
Personality[]
Nya possesses the focus, confidence, and motivation of her TV show counterpart. She is also a caring and loving person.
Official descriptions[]
Nya: Master of Water[]
Kai’s sister Nya is focused and confident, competitive and highly motivated. She doesn’t just climb in and out of her mech, she gives each move an aerobatic flair, and when she rides her motorcycle through the halls of NINJAGO High school, everybody had better get out of her way. Nya’s role model and she-ro is the famous ninja, the Lady Iron Dragon.[1]
Meet Spinjitzu Training Nya[]
Nya unlocks her true potential as a water ninja with more than a crushing spin kick. It requires patience, training, balance… and really solid foot work.[2]
Weapons and Abilities[]
Nya wields a spear in the trailers, but she may be skillful with many other weapons, although this is her favorite weapon.
She, like her counterpart in the show, possesses Elemental Powers, allowing her to create and manipulate water. Nya's Vehicle has weapons that are water-based and can walk on water.

Trivia[]
- Her vehicle is a mech that is based on a water strider.
- Her main weapon is a spear.
- It is unknown why they were shown with weapons in the commercials. They only used their elemental abilities and their mechs to fight, not once touching their signature weapons.
- Nya's hairstyle resembles P.I.X.A.L.'s. The hair originally used for P.I.X.A.L. was used for for Nya in the design phase.[3]
- In LEGO form, her ninja gi is the hardest to get out of all the movie ninja's, only appearing in three sets.
- Nya wears the half mask (introduced in Season 3 of the TV series) in the poster for the film and briefly in movie but not in the sets. The reason for this is unknown, as this is not the case for the other ninja, who were always wearing their full masks or no masks at all.
- Unlike the show, Nya's element is a part of creation. In the show, Water is one of the secondary elements.
- The skirt of her ninja gi may reference her role as Samurai X from the TV series.
- In the promotional "Back to School" short, it's shown that Nya keeps photos of her role models inside her locker, these heroes being Wyldstyle, Batgirl, Unikitty, and Wonder Woman (all characters appearing in the previous two LEGO movies).
- In the "Behind the Bricks" feature, Nya claims that Warner Bros. had her cast for Wonder Woman before scheduling issues got in the way.
- In most of the sets she has a double-sided head with one confident and one determined expression, but on her casual variant exclusive to 70607 Ninjago City Chase, the confident side is replaced with a happy expression. Her Minifigures Series (Spinjitzu Training) variant has the confident expression and no alternate face.
- Nya's TV show counterpart adopted Movie Nya's regular double-sided confident/determined head print until 2019 when she began using a new version which replaced the determined side with the happy expression from Movie Nya's casual variant. This version was also included in some later versions of the 70617 Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon.[4]
- As of Sons of Garmadon, Nya has a casual design similar to her movie counterpart's. The torso from the movie would later be used for Nya in 71741 Ninjago City Gardens.
