This article is about a subject that is canonical to the storyline of Warner Bros' The LEGO Movie franchise.

“Anyone can be a Ninja if you feel strong, confident, and powerful.”
— Nya, "Back to School"

Nya is the Water Ninja, and one of the six Ninja trained by Master Wu. She is Kai's sister. She drove the Water Mech.

History[]

The LEGO Ninjago Movie[]

Appearance[]

Nya's appearance is relatively the same as her TV show counterpart. She has a new light-gray Ninja gi and has now been given a mole that Jay refers to as "a mark of eternal beauty." She also now has ponytail hair, which is actually a little wild, held up by a gray scrunchy.

Personality[]

Nya possesses the focus, confidence, and motivation of her TV show counterpart. She is also a caring and loving person.

Official descriptions[]

Nya: Master of Water[]

Kai’s sister Nya is focused and confident, competitive and highly motivated. She doesn’t just climb in and out of her mech, she gives each move an aerobatic flair, and when she rides her motorcycle through the halls of NINJAGO High school, everybody had better get out of her way. Nya’s role model and she-ro is the famous ninja, the Lady Iron Dragon.[1]

Meet Spinjitzu Training Nya[]

Nya unlocks her true potential as a water ninja with more than a crushing spin kick. It requires patience, training, balance… and really solid foot work.[2]

Weapons and Abilities[]

Nya wields a spear in the trailers, but she may be skillful with many other weapons, although this is her favorite weapon.

She, like her counterpart in the show, possesses Elemental Powers, allowing her to create and manipulate water. Nya's Vehicle has weapons that are water-based and can walk on water.

Trivia[]

  • Her vehicle is a mech that somewhat resembles a four-legged spider.
  • Her main weapon is a spear.
    • It is unknown why they were shown with weapons in the commercials. They only used their elemental abilities and their mechs to fight, not once touching their signature weapons.
  • Nya's hairstyle resembles P.I.X.A.L.'s. The hair originally used for P.I.X.A.L. was used for for Nya in the design phase.[3]
  • In LEGO form, her ninja gi is the hardest to get out of all the movie ninja's, only appearing in three sets.
  • Nya wears the half mask (introduced in Season 3 of the TV series) in the poster for the film and briefly in movie but not in the sets. The reason for this is unknown, as this is not the case for the other ninja, who were always wearing their full masks or no masks at all.
  • Unlike the show, Nya's element is a part of creation. In the show, Water is one of the secondary elements.
  • The skirt of her ninja gi may reference her role as Samurai X from the TV series.
  • In the promotional "Back to School" short, it's shown that Nya keeps photos of her role models inside her locker, these heroes being Wyldstyle, Batgirl, Unikitty, and Wonder Woman (all characters appearing in the previous two LEGO movies).
    • In the "Behind the Bricks" feature, Nya claims that Warner Bros. had her cast for Wonder Woman before scheduling issues got in the way.
  • In most of the sets she has a double-sided head with one confident and one determined expression, but on her casual variant exclusive to 70607 Ninjago City Chase, the confident side is replaced with a happy expression. Her Minifigures Series (Spinjitzu Training) variant has the confident expression and no alternate face.
    • Nya's TV show counterpart adopted Movie Nya's regular double-sided confident/determined head print until 2019 when she began using a new version which replaced the determined side with the happy expression from Movie Nya's casual variant. This version was also included in some later versions of the 70617 Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon.[4]
  • As of Sons of Garmadon, Nya has a casual design similar to her movie counterpart's. The torso from the movie would later be used for Nya in 71741 Ninjago City Gardens.
