Periwinkle (Peri for short) was a painter and Indi's older sister.
History[]
Background[]
Peri was born as the eldest daughter of Violet and Mindaro, a legendary painter and magician. At a young age, Peri discovered that she had inherited her father's abilities over magic and aspired to follow in his footsteps, channeling magic into her first ever drawing to bring it to life. Over the years, Peri and her family lived happily together in their villa at the top of a lush mountain. However, that happiness was shattered when Violet, Peri and her sister, Indi's, mother suddenly took ill and passed away not long after. In an effort to help their grieving father, Peri and Indi encouraged him to once again pick up his brush, believing that once he started painting again, he would be able to restore some of his happiness and joy. Alas, although their father began to paint once more, he could no longer express any of the brightness that had categorized his prior works, now painting exclusively in shades of monochrome to express his sadness. Unfortunately, Mindaro's pain, intermixed with his magic and art, came to life in the form of a monster that would become known as The Chroma. Seeking to enter the real world, The Chroma attacked Mindaro, dragging him into its portrait alongside Indi when she tried to save their father. Using his magic, Mindaro managed create a protective barrier, preventing anyone inside of his paintings from ever leaving, thus not only trapping the Chroma outside of the real world, but himself and Indi as well, leaving Peri behind.
Guilty about being the only one to have escaped the Chroma's clutches, Peri began searching for a way to defeat the monochromatic monster, beginning by painting warriors into the Chroma's portrait and bringing them to life with her magic in an effort to fight the beast. As the years wore on however, Peri became ever more desperate to free her family, beginning to trick travelers and warriors passing through the mountain to stop by her villa for rest and nourishment before transporting them into the paintings to combat the Chroma. For three years, none she sent to fight the Chroma ever returned and her family continued to remain imprisoned within the creature's portrait.
The Chroma's Clutches (flashback)[]
As Garmadon and Wu stood atop the mountain, they were approached by Peri, who asked if they were lost. Wu introduced himself and admitted uncertainty, while Garmadon clarified that they lacked precise directions but believed they needed to cross the mountain. Peri kindly invited them to rest and dine, recognizing their exhaustion. Wu asked about Balee, and Peri explained that her father had discovered him while exploring the mountain for inspiration for his paintings. Garmadon complimented Peri's artistic abilities, but her smile faded as she expressed her efforts to improve. She then led them inside with Balee by her side. Upon entering Peri's house, Wu expressed his interest in meeting her father and the rest of her family. However, Peri revealed that she was alone and invited them to join her for a meal.
As they entered the kitchen, Peri requested Wu's assistance in slicing carrots, which Garmadon quickly took over. With his sword in hand, Garmadon expertly sliced the carrot stick in seconds, impressing Peri. She reminded him to be careful not to damage her works in progress, to which Garmadon assured her that he was a trained master and posed no danger to her canvases. Peri asked about Garmadon's training, to which he responded that he and Wu were trained by the First Spinjitzu Master. Peri recognizes the name and expresses surprise that he is their father, since she heared of the story of the First Spinjitzu Master creating Ninjago. Garmadon confirmed that they were also masters of Spinjitzu, but Wu interjected that mastering the art is a never-ending journey. Peri acknowledged the rarity of having two ninja at her doorstep and affectionately patted Balee's head.
During dinner, Peri became notably less guarded and asked the brothers many questions about themselves and their journey. However, she notably became less open whenever the brothers asked her questions about her family, even abruptly ending conversation after Wu asked again about her father. Following dinner, Peri led the brothers to their rooms, adding that they should feel free to stay as long as they wished, encouraging them also to help themselves to tea in the morning if they awoke before her. Later that evening, Peri went to a hidden room to interact with the Chroma painting, hope to communicate with her imprisoned family members but was soon forced to leave when the Chroma bore down towards the front of the painting, hoping to escape. As Peri left the room, she ran into Garmadon outside the door; he had been awoken by an eerie howling, though Peri attempted to allay his concerns by insisting the sound had only been the wind.
The next morning, Peri prepared breakfast and greeted the brothers at the villa's balcony, reiterating her hope that they had decided to stay longer, emphasizing that there were not many visitors this far up the mountain. Wu asked again about Peri's family however, and this time, after great hesitation, she finally provided the brothers was the abridged truth: her mother had passed away three years prior and her father and sister were "gone, but would be back soon." After hearing this, both brothers agreed to stay for a few more days and to help Peri with some of her daily chores in with the garden. After breakfast, Peri and her guests walked through the halls of the villa as they made their way to the garden. Wu once again expressed his fascination and admiration for Peri's father's portraits, and Garmadon suggested that the ducks in one of the paintings were even moving! With a smile, Peri replied that such a statement highlighted the skill of her father - his works were so realistic they seemed almost life like!
Upon reaching the garden, Peri watched as the brothers engaged in a competition to see who could fill up their basket with blackberries the quickest, which Wu won, and afterwards, Garmadon uprooted all of the weeds in the garden with a burst of Spinjitzu, impressing Peri who then expressed a wish for the brothers to stay with her forever, unknowingly chilling Garmadon with her emphasis on the word, 'forever.' Once the chores were complete, Peri kindly asked the brothers if they could pose for her so she could paint their portrait, adding that she was running out of new things to paint on the mountain. After suggesting for the weapons to hold out their weapons in a fighting pose, Peri began her work, though unbeknownst to both brothers, she was secretly beginning the process to transport them into one of the many paintings that adorned the villa's halls as the newest warriors to challenge the Chroma. Once the spell was complete, Peri briefly apologized to the brothers, stating that she had to be sure they were going to help her before leaving them to Jelena for further instructions and clarification.
Some time later, Peri was contacted by her father and sister through the Chroma painting, nearly bursting into tears as she noted how long ago their last communication was, and how many nights she had spent standing before the painting in hopes of seeing them again. Indi interrupted this tender moment however, ordering her sister to begin adding bright colors to the portrait's otherwise monochromatic landscape, only explaining that the colors were needed to defeat the Chroma. Peri immediately got to work, adding a yellow and orange flower to the Chroma's gray world, and Mindaro attempted to use his magic to manipulate the colors, but failed. Peri watched as her father collapsed to his knees, declaring that his magic had grown too weak and the only thing he could do was to raise the barrier once more to prevent the Chroma from escaping. Refusing to accept defeat when they were this close, Peri encouraged her father to continue, painting a small violet beside him to remind him of her late mother, stating that Violet always had faith in him, just as she does now. Feeling his hope restored by his daughter's words and seeing the flower that bore his late wife's namesake, Mindaro rose again and began to manipulate the colors that Peri continued to add to the portrait, enabling Wu and Garmadon to use those colors to destroy the Chroma.
Following the Chroma's destruction, Peri was finally reunited with her family, sharing a moment with them before sheepishly approaching the brothers. She could not bear to look at them in the eye as she apologized profusely for her actions, though fortunately the brothers were quick to forgive her. The other warriors Peri had transported long ago, all of whom survived and escaped the painting as well following the Chroma's destruction, however, were less forgiving and demanded to immediately be shown the way off the mountain. Peri granted this request, sending Balee to show them the way. After the warriors left, Jelena appeared in the Chroma painting, which had now been transformed into a beautiful and lush landscape, congratulating the family and the brothers on at last vanquishing the Chroma. Peri offered Jelena the opportunity to cross over into the real world, wanting to hug her as thanks and to apologize for forcing her into her scheme for years, though Jelena declined the offer, having since decided that the painted world is and always will be her home. Some time later, Peri packed some vegetables from the villa's garden and gave them to Wu and Garmadon, waving the brothers goodbye as they left to continue their journey.

Official description[]
She is a mysterious young woman who invites Wu and Garmadon to stay. Peri is willing to share her food, her home, and her paintings, but is reluctant to tell the ninja where the rest of her family is.
Etymology[]
In Persian mythology, Peri refers to mythical beings similar to fairies, in which they were believed to be evil at first but later good. This references her deception towards other people during the time her father and sister were trapped, as she only invited people to her villa just to later trap them in Mindaro's paintings and fight the Chroma.
