Photacs were projection devices created by Sora before the Merge, being able to generate constructs of indestructible hard light. They were initially designed as animal companions until they began to be used as dragon-hunting wolves known as Photac Beasts for the Claws of Imperium.
Photacs take on various forms thanks to the hard light that is created inside them; these forms range from simple light spheres to a variety of animals, including a puppy and a fish. However, when used by the Imperium, Photacs take on the form of large wolves with golden armor and claws.
History[]
Background[]
Days before her school's science fair, Ana created the Photac for her project, which started out as just projecting orbs of hard light since it was in its prototype stage. During the science fair, Ana upgraded the Photac to allow her to project any type of animal she wanted. The Advanced Systems Lab scientists were impressed with the device and awarded Ana a medal for winning first place.[1]
Dr. LaRow discovered the Photac and offered Ana a position in her lab. Although Ana was happy to join, she found out that she was only brought in so the Photac can be used to hunt dragons, having it be powered by dragon energy to project wolf-like creatures called Photac Beasts. Refusing to work for Dr. LaRow, Ana threw the controller into the ground and kicked the Photac away, damaging the two devices.[1]
When the Merge united Imperium with the other realms, Beatrix wanted the Photac to be used again, allowing the Claws of Imperium to hunt down every known dragon in the Merged Realms. Because the device was damaged, Imperium wasn't able to reactivate the Photac again, so Ras hired Dorama to repair it and make copies. However, the copied Photacs had to be activated by Sora, since she was the original creator.[2]
Return to Imperium[]
At the Crossroads Junkyard, Rapton used the original Photac while on a mission with the Claws of Imperium to track down Jiro. When Kai first saw the Photac Beast, he mistakenly believed it to be a mere hologram, only to realize his error when the Photac physically knocked him aside. Despite the ninja's attempts to use their Elemental Powers against the Photac, their attacks proved futile as the beast remained unscathed. Relentlessly, the Photac persisted in its pursuit of the ninja until the Claws of Imperium managed to escape with Jiro in tow. The following day, the ninja clandestinely infiltrated the Kingdom of Imperium with the sole purpose of permanently disabling the Photac. However, before Sora could carry out her plan, she found herself face to face with Dr. LaRow.
Mindless Beasts[]
I Will Be the Danger[]
The Claws of Imperium were equipped with the activated Photacs to prevent the dragons from fleeing the Kingdom of Imperium. Meanwhile, at the Advanced Systems Lab, Sora used a Photac to render Dr. LaRow unconscious. Suddenly, Dorama appeared and startled Sora. Sora hurled the Photac towards Dorama to protect herself, but Dorama skillfully deflected it using his staff. Lloyd and Arin faced a challenging task of evading the Photacs and the Claws, but Wyldfrye strongly believed that the dragons should confront them head-on, resulting in an intense battle between the dragons and the Photacs.
The Calm Inside[]
The Battle of the Second Monastery[]
Ras used a Photac while commanding the Claws of Imperium to launch an assault on the ninja using their own Photacs. The ninja found themselves in a fierce struggle against the Photacs, with Nya and Zane only recently becoming aware of their existence. Seeking refuge, the ninja and the dragons sought shelter within the Monastery of Imperium, prompting the Claws of Imperium to use their Photacs in an attempt to forcefully break down the door. However, just as the door gave way, Sora utilized her Elemental Powers to render the Photacs completely inoperable, effectively disabling them for good.

Trivia[]
- As the Photac Beasts, they share a near identical color scheme to Lord Ras, as they have black fur, golden accessories, and orange-colored eyes. The only difference between the two is that Ras is an anthropomorphic tiger and has magenta for the secondary color of his fur instead of red.
- The Photacs were originally designed with pure intentions such as soothing loneliness, which was implied in "Return to Imperium" on how Sora was alone during her time in the Kingdom of Imperium.
