Quanish the Elder was a man who lived in Ninjago for millennia.
History[]
Prior to the series[]
Thousands of years ago, Quanish along with his brother, Fenwick used to rule the Cloud Kingdom together. Quanish thought that people in the other realms needed to have their own free will and be able to forge their own destiny, which caused his brother, who believed that people had to be governed, to banish Quanish to Ninjago and bent his mind.[1]
In Ninjago, he encountered the First Spinjitzu Master and his two sons, Garmadon and Wu, when they were children.[2]
Because of his past in the Cloud Kingdom, Quanish had the ability to see the future, an ability which made him known as a fool.[3] Quanish would often leave out the most important part in his prophecies.[4]
At some point, Quanish was summoned to the Grasslands by the First Spinjitzu Master, who offered him to stay, but he declined, saying that he had something yet to do in Ninjago.[2]
He then wrote the final prophecy of Quanish the Elder, a prophecy about a final battle, in which the acolytes of the First Spinjitzu Master will face a terrible choice, and would be given a Dragon Form after they would remember their courage and do what must be done for the good of all.[3]
He eventually ended up as a monk in a mountain monastery.[2]
The Mask of Deception[]
Quanish was in the mountain monastery, still trying to piece out his past, then two young men, one dressed in black and one dressed in blue looked at him with recognition and hope, which caused him to become hopeful as well, but the two became disappointed after seeing him, as they were looking for their master, Wu, who was lost in a time stream.
The Splinter in the Blind Man's Eye[]
Not long after this, Quanish made his way to an inn beneath the Wailing Alps. As the bartender Gertrude prepared his tea, Quanish was summoned to the Grasslands once more.
There, he and the First Spinjitzu Master spoke about their previous encounters and Quanish's search for answers in Ninjago. The First Spinjitzu Master told him that he would have all the answers he could ever want if he stayed, and Quanish accepted the offer, leaving behind his mortal body in Ninjago.
Other appearances and mentions[]
Farewell the Sea[]
Wu read Quanish's scrolls in hopes of finding a way to bring Nya back, but couldn't find any information about it, to which Wu called Quanish a fool.
Return of the Ice Emperor[]
Misako went to the Newspaper warehouse during the Overlord's attack on Ninjago City. There she showed Wu the scroll of the final prophecy of Quanish the Elder, which caused Wu to call him a fool, with Misako telling him that he was a fool that could see the future.
An Issue of Trust[]
As Wu showed the ninja the scroll of the final prophecy of Quanish the Elder, Garmadon immediately called him a fool after hearing Quanish's name. After Wu told him that the scroll didn't say how the Dragon Form was archieved, Garmadon insulted Quanish once again, mentioning how he typically leaves out the most important part.
Dragon Form[]
In the midst of the final battle with the crystal army, Jay expresses his confusion about the meaning of the allies coming together like the Dragon Form scroll said. Wu responds by saying that it proves that Quanish was actually right about something for once, and encourages the four ninja to once again assume their Dragon Form.

Trivia[]
- Several months before Quanish was first mentioned in "Farewell the Sea", Tommy Andreasen referenced Wu's lines about Quanish the Elder multiple times on Twitter.
- In July 2021, he stated about a figurine of an old man, "I wonder what scroll he’s holding! Could it be that of Quanish the Elderly?!?!"[5]
- Sometime in the second half of 2021, he added the phrase to the end of his Twitter name, "Quanish was a fool!"[6]
- After the episode aired, Andreasen later denied the statement about Quanish being a fool when someone mentioned it, with him replying, "Or was he?"[7]
