Official description[]
Go, Ninja-Go! Skybound is announcing the all-new series LEGO® NINJAGO®: SHATTERSPIN #1 from @trivuong. Spinning into local comic book store shelves May 22, 2024![1]
"As the world of Ninjago faces a threat unlike any before, young champion Garmadon sets off on a quest to discover the truth behind the legend of The Forbidden Five and a secret power that could turn the tide of the Serpentine War! But can Garmadon resist the temptation in front of him to save Ninjago, or will he be consumed by the power he's so close to grasping?[2]
Plot[]
Garmadon is seen wandering the desert. He takes out his binoculars and, to his shock, sees a building in the distance. He unravels a map and realizes it was what he was looking for. While drinking water, a giant creature that appears to be a scorpion surfaces from the sand. Garmadon dodges as it lunges one of its pincers at him, damaging his cloak instead. Angered, he jumps up and cuts off its stinger with both his swords. Garmadon points his sword at the creature, giving it time to run away. His compassion towards the creature reminds him of Master Chen: he tells Garmadon that mercy is a weakness.
Garmadon expresses appreciation for Chen’s mentorship as he leaves to join his brother to fight against the Serpentine. Chen tries to convince Garmadon to stay and help the Serpentine, telling him it will end the war. Garmadon refuses, saying he would never turn on Ninjago. Chen gives Garmadon a map and a key in the shape of an amulet as parting gift. He tells Garmadon about the Forbidden Five and their power. Chen says Garmadon must find the Shadow Dojo, located in the Wyldness, if he desires to learn the five’s art of fighting. He warns Garmadon of the dangers. Garmadon leaves and goes to meet Wu.
When he arrives in the forest, Garmadon tries to sneak up on Wu. He fails and his brother catches him in the act. Garmadon shows his disbelief in their ability to win the war. Garmadon tells Wu that he has found the real power they need to win the war but he says he will have to travel far to get it. Wu tries to tell him to stay but Garmadon does not believe they can win with just the villagers and Elemental Alliance. Wu tells him to have faith in others.
Garmadon enters the mysterious building. He is confused on how to enter the Wyldness. When he takes out the key Chen gave him, the circular floor suddenly starts to glow. It lowers Garmadon into a room with a pool. Assuming it’s a portal, he jumps in and swims through it. He arrives in the Wyldness, gasping for air. A figure watches him get out of the portal from a distance.
As Garmadon walks through the realm, he notices a small bit of the figure’s hair sticking out from a rock. He uses his sword to cut it. Believing it was nothing, he throws the hair on the ground and walks away. The figure’s face is revealed, terrified by what just happened. Garmadon reaches the end of the forest to see a beautiful landscape of mountains and a red moon in the sky. Meanwhile Asa, the mysterious figure, finds four other children looking at the bones of an animal, discussing their next meal. Through a series of actions, he tells the rest of the children how Garmadon came out of the portal and cut some of his hair off.
Garmadon stands outside the Shadow Dojo. He calls out to the Forbidden Five, saying he seeks their knowledge and power. The door to the dojo opens. Garmadon sees the Gong of Shattering at the back of the room and the Mallet of Shattering lying on the ground. Thinking Chen manipulated him to leave Ninjago, Garmadon picks up the mallet and throws it in a fit of rage. The mallet hits the gong, ringing it. The force from the hit pushes Garmadon through the walls of the dojo and further into the Wyldness. The Children of the Wolf, all of which were standing outside the dojo and wondering how its doors opened, witnessed this. Knowing the Lycan King will have heard the gong ring, they try to find Garmadon.
Garmadon lands among statues of Wolf Warriors. What seems to be the ghost of a warrior comes out of a statue. The ghost says that Garmadon has undone all the warriors had sacrificed. More ghosts-like beings appear as the ghost tells him to take the Mallet of Shattering far away. Garmadon insists the Wolf Warriors tell him the secrets of the Forbidden Five, claiming he is worthy. The ghost refuses, telling Garmadon that he is corrupted. To explain what the Forbidden Five’s powers would do to him, the Wolf Warriors enter Garmadon’s mind and show him what happened to the Wolf Clan. Garmadon’s eyes turn white in the process and he passes out. The children find him lying on the ground, unconscious. Warby tries to wake Garmadon up by slapping him multiple times to no avail. Just then, the children see the Lycan King staring down at them.
