Ninjago Wiki
It's simple. If the gray slug wins, you're right, and the Munce can be trusted. If the brown slug wins, you're wrong, and the Munce cannot be trusted. Only the slugs know.

A slug race is a parliamentary practice used by the Geckles as a way of making decisions using a grey and brown slug.

Grief-Bringer (episode)

After Kai suggests to the Geckles that they should go to a meeting with the Munce, the Geckles decide to have a slug race to determine whether or not to go, with the belief that only the slugs know and they are never wrong. If the gray slug won, then the Munce could be trusted. If the brown slug won, then the Munce could not be trusted.

The brown slug was about to win the race before Zane used his ice to make an ice slick for the gray slug, resulting in Kai winning and the Munce being trusted.
