History[]
Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu[]
The Explorers Club[]
At the Explorer's Club, he and Underhill were listening to a presentation by Shippelton on a recent exploration he had. While Shippelton was talking about the Boobytraps of Inescapability, the explorer showed his back, which revealed to be arrows attached to it. Smythe recommended that Shippelton should go to a doctor, but he doesn't follow his advice.
Later, he was in a meeting along with Shippelton and Underhill before being interrupted by Lloyd, Nya, and Zane. Once Smythe realized the ninja were stealing an artifact, he called security, which caused the ninja to flee to one of the rooms.
Once the ninja escaped the Explorer's Club, the building is left in disarray. When Smythe was talking to Shippelton on who to blame, they were under attack by Vastodectrus Venemous and began to run.

Smythe watched Clutch Powers' presentation on how he obtained the Storm Amulet, and later fought off some Merlopians.
The Calm Before the Storm[]
At the start of the Great Flood, Smythe was strolling down the streets of Ninjago City and was hit in the face by a newspaper that Okino had been reading after it blew out of the latter's hands.

The Explorer’s Wise Words[]
Following The Merge, several artifacts believed by the Explorer's Club to have been lost forever had reportedly been spotted across the newly merged lands. In response, Smythe set out to discover some of these artifacts and succeeded in recovering the Spatula from the Cursed Realm. He later planned to rendezvous with Underhill and Shippelton, though when the latter failed to arrive on time, he and Underhill began to enjoy some tea together. When the pair were approached by Clutch Powers, who was also in search of the Spatula from the Cursed Realm,
During their conversation with Clutch, Smythe wondered aloud as to Shippelton's whereabouts, leading Clutch to realize that he must've gotten lost. Smythe then inquisitively questioned Clutch as to how he knew that Shippelton was lost, though Clutch responded with a simple, "Explorer's intuition." Smythe and Underhill then watched as Clutch ventured off in search of Shippelton, having been told that rescuing a lost member of the Explorer's Club would be an immediate contender for explorer of the year.

- His appearance is similar to Fungus' appearance and the same as the one of the Ninjago City security guards.
- His hairpiece was previously used on Vlad Tutu and later on Plundar, and was also originally used on a Series 16 minifigure, the Dog Show Winner.
