“I didn't abandon you. You abandoned me! I thought I had to prove myself to you, but you should never have to prove your worth to your own parents.”
“You're young and naive, Ana. Just come back to your family!”
“I have a new family now! One that loves me for who I really am!”
— Sora disowning her parents, "The Power Within"

Sora (born Ana) is the Elemental Master of Technology, an inventor, and one of Lloyd's ninja students. Born as an Imperian citizen, she was one of the smartest inventors of her kingdom, but after seeing how it treats dragons and being mistreated by her parents, she left her home after the Merge, chose her current name, and befriended Arin. Years after the Merge, Sora makes a connection to a dragon called Riyu, who helps her discover her Elemental Power. She would then be trained by the Green Ninja Lloyd, and destroyed the Photacs during the Battle of the Second Monastery. Afterwards, Sora and Nya searched for the Yellow Dragon Core, meeting Cole along the way. Sora immediately started to harness her powers and unlock her True Potential without the help of Riyu during the Liberation of Imperium, after realizing the ninja were her true family.

Sometime later, Sora built three mechs for herself, Kai, and Cole out of Chronosteel to handle Lobbo being mutated, stopping the Mechanic, and stopping the Lava-Tides from stealing dragon eggs.

Her popularity as a ninja continued to rise until Cinder stole the Mallet of Shattering and broke Wyldfyre's leg, leading to her and most of the ninja heading to a dojo, where she was assigned to be taught under Rontu and solemnly watching Egalt demote Arin before the Blood Moon interferes in their training, and they head to the Wyldness, where she, Kai, and Wyldfyre infiltrate the Wolf Clan to try and rescue Euphrasia and some of the Writers of Destiny assigned to be sacrifices for the Forbidden Five. While they were successful, Ras sent Kai into the Nether-Space, releasing Nokt in the process before Sora secretly helps Arin defeat Ras until the moon passed by. During the next few days, Sora assisted Arin in trying to locate his missing parents, only to stumble upon Riyu's matriarch, who was brutally murdered and her Crown of Horns stolen. With advice from the Source Dragon of Motion, the ninja participate in the Tournament of the Sources, where Arin started to ignore her upon Ras telling the former the truth. During one of her matches, she defeated Arin's old friend and member of the Wolf Clan, Frak as well as Cinder before facing against Nokt, only to be defeated. However, thanks to Wyldfyre and Zur, Nokt's celebration was cancelled before he and Jordana, who was possessed by Rox since the ritual, use the stolen elements to free the remaining Forbidden Five with Nya freeing Kai and Bonzle in the process. As Nokt prepared to defeat them, Roby, the Games Master, absorbed the stolen powers and returned them to their rightful owners, causing the Forbidden Five to flee with Ras being dragged along and Arin, who lost complete faith in the ninja. Sora was then proclaimed the winner by default.

During her time in Imperium as Ana, she had pigtails and wore a standard black uniform with Imperium's symbol for Imperian kids.

Abilities

  • Technology: As an Elemental Master of Technology, Sora can take control of any technological constructs, allowing her to modify their mechanisms or change it into something else, as she was able to morph the SA Mark 01 into a bike.
  • Elemental Powers (briefly): With enough skill, Sora was able to use almost every Elemental Powers she won during the Tournament of the Sources, such as Balance, Heat, Ice, Reflex, Quake, and Smoke, although she had more difficulty with the latter.
  • Spinjitzu: Although only momentary and very short lived, Sora did briefly display the ability to generate pink swirling wisps around her body while she was rapidly rotating, which indicated she was in the first stage of Spinjitzu, even before she was able to manifest an actual tornado.
  • Mechanical skills: Sora is a gifted inventor whose mechanical genius were recognized by Dr. LaRow and the Advanced Systems Lab immediately as a child, having pioneered the creation of the indestructible hard light Photacs. Her engineering skills would even receive praise from Nya, a prodigy inventor herself, for being on a whole other level.
  • Hacking: Because of her interest in technology since childhood, Sora also became a professional at hacking and splicing, being able to hack through the mainframes of any machinery in seconds and bypass online security.

Personality

Sora is a kind and caring young girl towards mostly the people she loves, but yet she is cynical and has trouble trusting people. She lacks confidence, is afraid of letting down the people she cares about, and even feels insecure about her elemental power and worries she cannot control it. However, she is brave, loyal, and willing to do almost anything for the people she cares about, such as the Ninja. She is kind and compassionate towards dragons and her friends and also skillful, brilliant, smart, intelligent, independent, helpful, creative, and always ready to help those she cares about with her new tech powers or in any way she can.

Etymology

The name Sora is primarily a gender-neutral name of Japanese origin that means "sky". However, in-universe, her name comes from the ancient Imperium word for orphan and she named herself after Zanth, who was nicknamed Sora at the time.[6]

Her birth name, Ana, means "favored grace."

Behind the scenes

  • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, the plating on her left arm is just armor and not a prosthetic robot arm.[7]
    • Despite this, Play Stories claims that her left arm is a prosthetic.
  • Both minifigures of Sora in casual attire use a hair piece of the pigtails she had in her youth.
  • In early concept, Sora was originally depicted as a non-human kitsune as a callback to Akita.[8]
  • Chris "Doc" Wyatt has stated that Sora has a last name, though it's currently unknown when it will be revealed.[9]

Trivia

  • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, Sora feels the power of Technology in her brain.[10]
  • In particular designs, Sora's appearance and hair color are based off the character Aelita Schaffer from Code Lyoko and her powers have technology and creation as well.
  • In "Return to Imperium," the ID card Sora creates for herself says "Sora Surname" in Ninjargon.
  • She appears to be fond of cats, based on her headphones, hood, and the cat symbol on the back of her racing suit. Even her facial markings resemble cat whiskers.
  • She is the first ninja who was not born in Ninjago, the second being Wyldfyre.
  • Before the Tournament of the Sources, she and Wyldfyre were the only ninja who didn't have ninja suits, as her outfit was a racing suit and Wyldfyre's was a normal outfit.
    • Sora did not have a ninja suit before the Tournament of Sources because "even though it's been a while since she left Imperium, Sora's still got a thing against wearing what everyone else is wearing."[11]
  • Her minifigure face print has two additional markings on her forehead that are normally obscured by her hair.
    • It is unknown at this time if she has these markings in the show.
