“I ask you to reconsider. He liberated me from my prison. I am in his debt. Perhaps we all are.”
— The Source Dragon of Energy to the Source Dragon of Motion, "Beyond the Phantasm Cave"

The Source Dragon of Energy[1] is one of the seven Source Dragons. Like the rest of his kind, the Source Dragon is an immensely powerful being. However, during to his confinement under the hands of Ras, his dominion over the realms was nullified and was compelled to provide energy to the Kingdom of Imperium while being incarcerated beneath the kingdom. After Beatrix was deposed, the Source Dragon was freed by Lloyd.

History[]

Background[]

Among the seven Source Dragons, the Source Dragon of Energy helped maintain equilibrium across the realms through the utilization of his life force. Known for his name, the Source Dragon became the primary source of energy by embodying energy for the realms,[2] leading to the formation of all Elemental Powers associated with it.[3] One day, the First Spinjitzu Master encountered the Source Dragon of Energy and his fellow companions, and implored them to share a portion of their dragon power. This request was made with the intention of creating the Dragon Cores, which were used to prevent the Coalescence, a catastrophic occurrence that would result in the merging of the realms into a single world, caused by the influence of the Source Dragon energy.[4]

In the following centuries, the Source Dragon at one point became aware of Lloyd through someone who spoke of the Green Ninja's loyalty, but the Source Dragon had doubts about the person's claim.[3]

At some point before the Merge[5], Ras called upon the Source Dragon of Energy by using a Dragon Icon and captured him with the help of Imperium, which possessed the advanced technology required for such a feat.[6][7] To contain the creature, Imperium constructed a massive glass sphere capable of confining him. Positioned beneath the kingdom, the Source Dragon became an unparalleled source of power for the city. However, the confinement led to instability within all the realms. Luckily, the sphere neutralized a significant portion of the Source Dragon's power, preventing the realms from facing destruction.[8]

Dragons Rising, Season 1[]

The Battle of the Second Monastery[]

Lloyd and Zane came across the Source Dragon while sneaking underneath the Imperium Palace, who remained trapped within a luminous sphere as he continued to serve as the sole power source for the kingdom. The Source Dragon, cognizant of the fact that his release would result in the annihilation of the Merged Realms, cautioned the two against freeing him. However, upon learning of Lloyd's previous acquisition of dragon power, the Source Dragon imparted some of his own dragon energy to Lloyd, thereby enabling him to activate the portal gate, facilitating the escape of the other dragons. During the transfer, the Source Dragon granted Lloyd a vision, revealing six Source Dragon symbols and a burial ground containing the masks of the ninja.

We Are All Dragons[]

The Source Dragon roared in pain when Jordana and other Imperium scientists tried to extract his power, extracting raw Source Dragon energy to create a new Dragon Core.

The Power Within[]

The Source Dragon questioned Lloyd's return. Lloyd explained that he wanted to set the Source Dragon free. However, the dragon warned him the consequences of doing so. Lloyd then revealed that he possessed the Dragon Cores, which would prevent the after-effects of the Source Dragon's freedom like it did with the MergeQuake Storm. The dragon recognized the Dragon Cores and emphasized the immense power they contained. Lloyd admitted that he didn't fully understand their significance. The Source Dragon revealed that all Elemental Powers originated from his kind, and questioned why Lloyd would sacrifice such power to free a being he didn't know. Lloyd simply believed it was the right thing to do. The Source Dragon expressed doubt about Lloyd, suggesting that someone was right about him. When Lloyd questioned who the Source Dragon was referring to, the Source Dragon diverted the conversation by inquiring about Riyu. Lloyd introduced Riyu, explaining that Riyu had eagerly anticipated meeting the Source Dragon. Acknowledging Riyu's presence, the Source Dragon recognized the uniqueness of the young dragon, emphasizing his special nature. The Source Dragon made a firm decision, acknowledging Lloyd's sacrifice of the Dragon Cores. As Lloyd raised the cores towards the sphere, the Source Dragon mentioned the possibility of encountering each other once more. Suddenly, a burst of light engulfed the area, causing the Source Dragon to disappear, finally liberated from his confinement.

Dragons Rising, Season 2[]

Beyond the Phantasm Cave[]

Following his release, the Source Dragon of Energy relayed the news of his freedom to the other Source Dragons, revealing that Lloyd was the one who had liberated him from his captivity. Seeking guidance on how to combat Shatterspin, Lloyd requested a vision from the Source Dragons, who appeared before him in their void. The Source Dragon of Motion sensed a looming threat from the mortals, while the Source Dragon of Strength reassured the group that humans were not capable of posing any real danger to them. The Source Dragon of Energy reflected on his past beliefs before being imprisoned. Expressing doubt about Lloyd's significance, the Source Dragon of Strength questioned his ability to stand against formidable foes. Recounting Lloyd's role as a conduit for his dragon power, the Source Dragon of Energy emphasized the importance of the Green Ninja. Highlighting Lloyd's uniqueness and his plea for help, the Source Dragon of Energy appealed to the other Source Dragons to reconsider their stance on intervening in mortal affairs. After much deliberation, the Source Dragon of Motion relented and granted Lloyd a vision of Egalt, suggesting that the Dragon Masters could aid the ninja in his quest.

Other appearances and mentions[]

Dragons Rising, Season 1[]

The Temple of the Dragon Cores[]

The Kingdom of Imperium was in a dire situation as the rest of the dragons escaped, leaving them in the midst of an energy crisis. Despite this predicament, Beatrix remained unperturbed and pointed out that Imperium still possessed the Source Dragon of Energy. Dr. LaRow acknowledged the capture of the dragon but emphasized the difficulties involved in harnessing his energy. This discussion then led to the mention of Ras and his proposed alternative solution, which Beatrix strictly forbade from mentioning in her presence.

Absolute Power[]

Learning that Rapton's Dragon Core was a counterfeit, Beatrix suggested harnessing energy from the Source Dragon of Energy for a new Dragon Core. Dr. LaRow recognized the unsuccessful efforts of the Imperium scientists in extracting energy from the Source Dragon of Energy, cautioning that creating a new core with pure dragon energy could result in the Kingdom of Imperium's destruction.

Dragons Rising, Season 2[]

The Blood Moon[]

Force From the East[]

The Dragon Masters discovered that Ras had reassembled the Wolf Clan, but they emphasized that Ras could only obtain the Wolf Masks from the Shadow Dojo, which required Source Dragon energy to open. Sora understood that Ras had acquired the energy from the Source Dragon of Energy and why he had a motive to assist the Imperians in capturing him in the first place. Upon hearing this, the Dragon Masters expressed concern that if a Source Dragon were to be captured, true darkness was brought upon the world.

Abilities[]

  • Sparks - Like all dragons with a high level of dragon power, the Source Dragon has the ability to share his energy with anyone he wants. This allows those individuals to access abilities that are typically reserved for dragons, drawing from a dragon's life force. As a Source Dragon, he can also designate any Elemental Master he prefers to act as a conduit for his dragon power.
  • Pyrokinetic Breath - As seen in Lloyd's vision, the Source Dragon has the ability to breathe fire.
  • Telepathy - Similar to few other dragons, the Source Dragon possesses the ability to communicate with other beings by using telepathic powers.

    • Dimension Destruction - He's powerful enough to destroy entire realms.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being called the Source Dragon of Energy, he has no relation to the power of Energy and seems to be associated with the power of Lightning, according to his insignia that bears a resemblance to lightning.
    • However, according to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, the Source Dragon is not a Lightning Dragon.[10] This is because Lightning is an Elemental Power and not a source.[2]
  • When questioned about whether the Source Dragon's capture is what led to the Merge, Chris "Doc" Wyatt expressed his inability to provide an answer to it.[11]
  • The Source Dragon of Energy is the first of the Source Dragons that the ninja meet with the Source Dragon of Motion being the second.
