Spectral Lands   Cursed Realm   Departed Realm
“Oh, the Departed Realm was way messed up even before the Merge turned it into the Spectral Lands. We had the Cursed Realm end up inside here, so when the Merge happened, both realms got all mixed together. It's a mess.”

The Spectral Lands are a region within the Merged Realms. It is the result of the fusion of the Cursed Realm and the Departed Realm, which combined to form a single, unified land due to the Merge. Upon death, all souls from across the realms arrive here before moving on to the next stage of being, beyond existing in any of the known realms.

History[]

Background[]

Following the demise of the Preeminent, the Cursed Realm was relocated to the Departed Realm. Consequently, when the Merge occurred, the two realms fused together, resulting in the creation of the Spectral Lands, one of the new lands formed in the Merged Realms. Most departed spirits that existed before the Merge moved on. Morro chose to stay in the Spectral Lands, where he guided departed souls as they moved onto the after life and protect them from Soul Suckers.

At some point in time, Smythe visited the Spectral Lands and obtained a spatula from the Cursed Realm.[1]

The Spectral Lands[]

After many days of travel, Arin and Ras were finally able to reach the borders of the Spectral Lands. With the latter too weak to stand and the ground too rocky for the former to carry him safely, Arin decided to venture into the Spectral Lands alone to find the the healing elixir from the Well of the Lost. Before he went however, Ras provided him with the Returning Blade, insisting that Arin would need it in the Spectral Lands.

Arin would remain on edge as he entered the cold and dismal lands, wary of any departed beings he might encounter. After some time, he encountered Morro and briefly prepared to engage in battle with the Ghost Ninja before realizing that Morro was only trying to defend him from an invisible creature known as a Soul Sucker. After warding off the beast by striking the nodes on its back, Morro guided Arin to the Well of the Lost as they spoke about these strange lands, the afterlife, and their experiences with their masters. On the way out, the duo were attacked once more by three more Soul Suckers, causing Arin to briefly drop his vial of elixir. Meanwhile, Ras, having spotted the vial began to desperately crawl towards it, entering the Spectral Lands himself while marking him as an easier target for the Soul Suckers. As the creatures converged upon Ras and began draining his energy, Arin managed to infuse the Returning Blade with Spinjitzu Energy as he hurled it at the beasts, striking them in their nodes and seemingly defeating them. With Ras safe, Arin quickly poured some of the elixir into his mouth and helped carry him out of the Spectral Lands while Morro returned to continue his duties as a guardian and guide for departed souls.

The Shatter Dragon[]

During his fight with the ninja, Thunderfang was struck by the elixir from the Well of the Lost, thrown by Arin. This led to Thunderfang disintegrating, sending him and the souls of the Forbidden Five to the Spectral Lands. There, he met Morro, who mistook him for a Departed Soul needing asistance. However, when four Soul Suckers appeared, Thunderfang absorbed them instead, leaving Morro astonished and insisting it was impossible. Thunderfang retorted that anything could happen in the afterlife before ultimately absorbing Morro as well.

Casket of Bones[]

After Drix attacked the Administration to seize the souls of the Administration Agents, he went back to the Spectral Lands, where he transferred all the souls he collected into the Well of the Lost, where Thunderfang and the rest of the Forbidden Five watch him.

Under the Light of a Mechanical Moon[]

As Zarkt absorbed souls in the Land of Lee, Rox arrived back in the Spectral Lands to transfer more stolen souls into the Well of the Lost to power up Thunderfang's ritual, which pleased her master, who comments his time has never been closer and laughs.

Later, as Zarkt returned from the Land of Lee with his soul collection, Rox, Kur, and Drix flank him and watched as he transferred his souls to the Well, unaware the Ninja were watching from a distance.

The Vault of Focus[]

Nokt returned to the Spectral Lands after loosing most of his souls from fighting Kai and Frak's Reveal Blades in Imperium and filled the Well of the Lost with the stolen souls he still has, but it wasn't enough, causing Thunderfang to scold him for his failure. Rox then appeared and transferred her stolen souls into the well, which erupted with power, destroying the Well of the Lost and the Five watched as their unwanted master slowly becomes a Source Dragon.

For Whom the Bell Tolls[]

In the Spectral Lands, Arin and Lloyd arrived through the Spectral Monastery, with their new Jet Mech and Spinjitzu Battle Mech. They see Thunderfang continued his evolution with his body gradually transformed, with spikes emerging from his left arm. During this process, he sensed someone nearing the Arc Dragon of Focus resting places and promptly informed the Forbidden Five. He realized the ninja dared to awaken his mortal enemy.

When Doves Cry[]

Arin and Lloyd go through the Spectral Lands to get to the Well of the Lost to use the Unbidden Storm to summon the Arc Dragon of Focus when the two halves are awaken. Although Nokt, Rox, and Drix lead many Spectral Dragonians and attacked them. Before they were cornered, Lloyd remember what Bleckt told them that there was a cavern under the Well of the Lost and create a tunnel where they went under the Well.

Chaos Reigns[]

As Thunderfang continues his ritual, Lloyd and Arin attempts to empower the Unbidden Storm to summon the Arc Dragon of Focus. Thanks to Arin's Object Spinjitzu, the stone is empowered again so the Arc Dragon of Focus can battle Thunderfang. When Thunderfang notice the Arc Dragon, he thinks the Source Dragons are defiantly afraid of him. The two battle, with Lloyd and Arin discover they are in control of the Arc Dragon. The two manage to defeat Thunderfang by destroying the Well of the Lost, which led to Thunderfang's demise, which released a surge of soul energy that returned the souls to the Hollow Ones. In this process, the spectral Hollow Ones dissipated.

The Arc Dragon of Focus thanked Lloyd and Arin for guiding it, but warned them that its masters wouldn't be happy with what they did but prayed that the Council of Sources were forgiving, before splitting into its two halves and returning to its slumber.

Other appearance and mentions[]

The Administration[]

Prentis dispatched two Writers of Destiny to the Spectral Lands, under the impression that it was their native home.

Appearance[]

The Spectral Lands are characterized by a spooky atmosphere, with dim lighting and an ever-present mist. All of the lands resemble an old village on a mountain with twisted trees, and slightly damaged eerie houses, giving it a forsaken appearance. There is also always night-time in these lands with a huge glowing moon.

On a hilltop, near a big cherry blossom tree, there is the Well of the Lost that contains a mysterious elixir that can help the departed to move on and heal the living.

The Spectral Lands are circled with a mystical border that the deceased cannot cross. This boundary serves as a barrier, preventing souls from leaving the lands and ensuring that the departed remain there.

Location[]

The Spectral Lands borders the First Land to the south.
