The Tartarus Trench is the deepest point in the Endless Sea. It is described as a dangerous location dotted with many hydrothermal vents within. According to Trimaar, many people have died there, as evidenced by the graveyard of ships.
History[]
The Tale of Benthomaar (flashback)[]
After Kalmaar told Trimaar about the Tartarus Trench. Trimaar forbid Kalmaar from going there due to the trench being dangerous. But Kalmar ignored his father's order, and tricked Benthomaar into helping him find a safe route through the trench.
Once they went to the Tartarus Trench, Benthomaar and Kalmaar swam past the vents and successfully made it to the Temple of Wojira.
The Call of the Deep[]
After being hit by a strange energy pulse while out at sea, P.I.X.A.L. and Zane trace its source of origin to the Tartarus Trench, with P.I.X.A.L remarking on the way it affected the underwater creatures, and theorizing that it could be the source of Nya's issues. They then make haste to the monastery, and inform the others of their suspicions, with Wu declaring they were going to visit the trench.
Unsinkable[]
The ninja enter the trench and witness many sunken ships only to be sunk themselves by a Maaray Guard.
Five Thousand Fathoms Down[]
Nya and Maya venture to the trench to find a power source for the Hydro Bounty, they only find Kalmaar and they are captured.
The Wrath of Kalmaar[]
At the Tartarus Trench, Kalmaar held Nya and Maya captive at the Temple of Wojira, and eventually discovered that the Storm Amulet is at the Island of the Keepers. He demanded Nya to tell him more about the island and in return, he would spare her and Maya. However, Gripe told Kalmaar that his father needed him at Merlopia, and the two left the Tartarus Trench.
Long Live the King[]
Nya and Maya attempt to run away from Ripper Sharks in the trench.
The Calm Before the Storm (flashback)[]
Kalmaar approaches Glutinous, awakens Wojira and starts his way to Ninjago City.
The Call of Home[]
After saving Kwon from drowning, Nya swam to Tartarus Trench where she encountered Nyad in the Graveyard of ships.

- It is based on the Mariana Trench, the deepest trench in the Pacific Ocean.
