“The Core has been declared an extremely dangerous Class B artifact, and is slated for immediate destruction. It is impossible to reach the demolition level in time to retrieve it, unless we use the tubes.”
Zane to Lloyd and Arin

The Administration is the seventeenth episode of the first season of Ninjago: Dragons Rising.

Synopsis[]

Lloyd and Arin arrive in the Administration, where they learn the Dragon Core will be demolished if they don't act fast — and file the correct paperwork.[1]

Extended: Arin and Lloyd follow the stolen pink Dragon Core through a portal into the Administration. The Ninja navigate its maze of cubicles and bureaucracy, inadvertently rescuing Zane along the way. They track down the Core but have to lose an army of Agents if they want to escape. Arin also finds a clue in the continued search for his parents and meets a familiar face in the process. Meanwhile, Kai teaches Wyldfyre the importance of finding calm.[2]

Plot[]

The Administration (47)

Lloyd and Arin encounter Roderick and SsssSsss

Pursuing the two agents through a portal after they took the pink Dragon Core from the Mother Garden, Lloyd and Arin find themselves in a mysterious place where they spot a line before getting to the top of a wall to find many species in suits similar to the core thieves. Returning their attention to the line, they ask the nearest man they could, who tells them they are in the Administration, where applicants must line up for permits and licenses, some had taken over their line positions from their parent and had forgotten why they're lined up for. Suddenly, two agents, one human and one Hypnobrai, demand to see the two ninja's permission forms, to which they reply that they don't have any and are immediately held at gunpoint.

The Administration (93)

Kai and Wyldfyre start to practice forms

Meanwhile in the Wyldness, Wyldfyre is getting impatient as the melted geode crystals should've healed Heatwave by now as they need to get the Purple Dragon Core back to the monastery, but Kai tells her to be patient and tries to pass the time by teaching her some of Wu's lessons, but Wyldfyre is completely concerned for Heatwave to even focus and calls him out for being patient. Kai then became amused as Wyldfyre reminds him of when he was younger. When he lost Nya after the Great Flood, Wu taught Kai to pass his grief by practicing his forms in order to find calmness. After slight hesitation, Wyldfyre gives it a try.

The Administration (147)

Hiding from the agents

Back in The Administration, before the agents could do a thing, a tube shows up next to Arin, containing two rolled up sheets, which he got out and found they're permission forms, with crude drawings of the two. Clearing them, the agents leave to file paperwork about the whole 'misunderstanding' as Arin wonders who gave them the forms before Lloyd reminds him about the Dragon Core. Unfortunately, as they start to fill out the paperwork, the Hypnobrai agent sees a subject's photo is normal, and discovered Lloyd and Arin's forms are fake. Lloyd and Arin try asking around about where the Dragon Core was, but the agents are forbidden to speak about it without the proper permission forms. As they continue, another tube shows up with a message for the two, telling them to duck behind a copy machine as the two agents they encountered are now trying to hunt them down. Another message arrives, telling them where to go before another message came, telling them to hide again, and quickly hide in a cubicle before the agents could see the two. However, some agents in the cubicle catch them and question them. Thankfully, Arin makes up a ruse, saying they're collecting pencils to sharpen. They resume moving along as their fake permission form ruse has been made known to all agents with their wanted posters containing the crude drawings.

The Administration (187)

"Zane?"

Eventually, they find their destination and discover the person responsible for sending the messages: Zane. He initially believes they were on a rescue mission, until they told him otherwise before learning from him that the two agents hunting Lloyd and Arin were the same agents that detained him for his multiple attempts at activating the portal gate back at the monastery, and was forced to sort out packages while their manager determines his sentence. With Lloyd wondering why the agents believe they have the whole authority, Zane says that the Administration was a business in the Kingdom of Madness led by someone called the Administrator, but doesn't know who or what they look like. Briefly reprimanding Lloyd and Arin for not knowing he was the one who sent the fake permission forms and messages, Arin admits to Zane that the former didn't like his crude drawing, because the latter drew them from his photographic memory. After they explain their reason for being in the Administration, Zane researches it on a computer and discovered the core has been deemed a dangerous artifact, scheduled to be destroyed. And with no time to reach the demolition level on foot, Zane arranges to have a chute transfer the three of them there as the two agents manage to catch up to them. To help in their escape, Arin threw the pencils he collected at them for the both of them to step on and fall before the three ninja go into the chute. Quickly recovering, the two agents override the path to put them in three different directions.

The Administration (245)

Lloyd ends up in the demolition level

The Administration (305)

Agent Walker!

Lloyd ends up on the demolition level, where a Nindroid agent in a mech prepares to put the core on a conveyor belt to a furnace. Arin ends up on a level where agents are sending the lost back to their home realms, but are seemingly getting them mixed up. He tries to ask the agents in charge about his parents before they demand his permit, which he immediately left, under the pretense of retrieving it. Believing they were deceived, the agent in charge calls out to the manager, which turned out to be Jay, who reprimands him for wasting the latter's time while playing video games, believing Arin may have been in for a realm reassignment. Back in the demolition level, Lloyd kicks the Nindroid agent out of the mech and uses it to grab the core before it could be burned, only to find himself surrounded by agents.

The Administration (349)

The core is a fake

Meanwhile, Kai continues teaching Wyldfyre to practice her forms, until eventually Heatwave was well enough, relieving Wyldfyre. As they prepare to leave, Kai notices something off about the core and smashes it, shocking the both of them when they discover the core was a fake as Dorama had swapped the real core with the fake in the confusion of their attempt to grab it.

The Administration (455)

Zane starts to fill out forms

Back at the Administration, the agents prepare to attack Lloyd for stealing the core, only for Zane to break through in a race car from the level he landed on and force them all back before they make their getaway. Making their way through the office, Zane discovers a button that can add ice to the wings of his car and spun many times. As they continue, a Munce agent tries to force Lloyd out of his seized mech, only for Arin to swoop in and force him away with his grappling hook. Needing a punch card to reactivate the portal, Zane heads to a cubicle to request for it, but there are forms that need to be filled out. Lloyd and Arin create a diversion as laser grids have been activated before Arin discovers the mech has a smaller mech attached to it before using it to dive between the lasers to take out any grid in their path.

The Administration (493)

Bidding farewell to the Mucoids

Zane finishes all the forms and returns with the punch card to activate the portal before creating a misty fog out of snow and a shockwave out of ice to knock down the agents and short circuit the keypunch to prevent them from following them, and return to the Mother Garden, where they recover the Destiny's Bounty.

The Administration (520)

A blast wave exits Imperium

While they were successful in their mission, despite some setbacks, Lloyd, Zane, and Arin return to the monastery, where they hear from Kai and Wyldfyre how theirs was taken, and Nya, Sora, and Riyu hadn't returned with theirs yet before they head for Imperium, leaving their current Dragon Core behind. Reaching the city, they see the city's barrier go out as a yellow beam came out of a building and a shockwave knocks the ninja down.

Trivia[]

  • This marks the first episode of the show where Sora doesn’t appear, though she was mentioned.
  • The forms and files on Roderick and SsssSsss Underwood's desks are all written 'This is a generic form' in Ninjargon.
  • The handbook that Underwood opens seems to show a picture of a female individual of Lobbo's species. This could possibly be his aforementioned mother, the only female individual mentioned so far of his species.
  • This marks Jay's only speaking role in Season 1.
  • The shoulder armor on the Demolition Mech (also set 71794) reads "Ronin" in Ninjargon.

Continuity[]

Cultural references[]

  • Zane guiding Lloyd and Arin through the Administration to his location is similar to Morpheus guiding Neo through his workplace in attempt to escape the Agents in The Matrix.
    • In this situation, Zane provided them messages through tubes while Morpheus had provided Neo a phone beforehand.
  • Zane signing the forms is visually similar to a scene from Death Note.
  • The portal that the Department of Reassignment uses is similar to the portal from LEGO Dimensions.[4]

Errors[]

  • The extended synopsis implies that Arin meets Jay, yet in the episode, the former, alongside Lloyd and Zane do not learn of his presence within the Administration at all.
  • Before the crate enters the incinerator, the conveyor belt is moving backwards.
  • Prentis sent monks back to the Cursed Realm, although it was destroyed in "Curseworld Part II".
