“When there is no calm outside of you, you must find the calm inside of you.”

The Calm Inside is the ninth episode of the first season of Ninjago: Dragons Rising.

Synopsis[]

Sora hacks into the Imperium logs to find Riyu. Nya and Kai explore a mysterious passageway. Lloyd leads an epic battle against an army of Photacs.

Extended: It's Dragons vs Photac Beasts in the streets of Imperium, but the Claws stop Lloyd and Wyldfyre's efforts to free the escaped dragons as Sora and Arin search for Riyu. The young dragon's spark would allow Sora to shut down the Photacs for good - unfortunately, the Teen Protection Force brings him before the Empress... Meanwhile, Nya and Kai reunite under mysterious circumstances and face an apparition.

Young Lloyd and Wu training

Many years earlier, a young Lloyd is training under his uncle, Wu, in the middle of a thunderstorm. The purpose is to break the swinging pendulums the latter was holding while finding a way to tune out the chaos, and to do that, he must find the calm inside himself, which, after several attempts, Lloyd managed to succeed.

At the present time, Lloyd, Wyldfyre, and the dragons are still fighting with the Claws of Imperium's Photacs to buy time for Arin and Sora to find Riyu, who ended up captured by Percival and is currently being moved to the palace.

Kai and Nya find a mysterious capsule

Meanwhile, in the underground building, Kai and Nya keep wondering about how they're underneath the monastery and Cloud Kingdom respectively, having followed what looked like a ghost and went through a gate that they believe is a portal to a strange monastery, until they hear the yellow orb again, speaking in Wu's voice. This led Kai and Nya to believe the orb to be the ghost of Wu. They followed the orb to a strange capsule.

Back in Imperium, Lloyd gets no compliment from Wyldfyre for saving her from an attack before asking Arin and Sora, who were using the city's surveillance network, if they found Riyu, which they have, but Percival had already made his way to the palace, where he meets Beatrix. Congratulating the boy, Beatrix speaks to Ras about how, despite Ras stating the Ninja made the baby dragon's capture difficult, Percival brought Riyu in on his toy hoverboard before ordering him to summon Dr. LaRow to drain him. When Ras objects, Beatrix brutally reprimands him, refusing to take orders from her underlings, or even him, an outlander, before forcing him to comply with the order.

Back in the underground monastery, as Kai and Nya ponder about the capsule, they hear the ghost saying "It must rise.", which makes them believe the voice was Wu's, but believe it to be a trick before complying and start to work on the capsule.

TCI - The calm inside

"The calm inside"

Heading for the palace, Arin and Sora, having fooled some guards into believing they were running from mean ones, who appall their shoulder pads, sneak in and find Riyu, but couldn't reach him, due to Ras and Dr. LaRow being in the palace as well. Relaying the information to their master, Lloyd, remembering Wu's lesson of finding calm inside himself, orders Wyldfyre to head for the palace and create a diversion, along with the dragons.

TCI - Jiro and Lloyd seeing the Imperium Monastery

The Imperium Monastery rises

Back in the underground monastery, after tweaking from Nya and repeated kicks from Kai, the capsule opens, revealing Zane, who had been deactivated since the Merge and recalls nothing afterward before answering a call on the monastery's control panel that Lloyd will need their help, he immediately prepares to rise the monastery, which is directly underneath Imperium.

TCI - Ninja never quit!

"Ninja never quit!"

The monastery's rising shakes the city as Arin and Sora attempt to use the distraction to reach Riyu, only for Dr. LaRow's assistant, Jordana, to catch them and destroy their communicators so they couldn't contact Lloyd. Outside, the shaking continued before a structure breaks through the ground and rises. The doors soon open, and Kai, Zane, and Nya burst out, proclaiming, "Ninja never quit."

Errors[]

  • Lloyd's Legacy design has green eyes, but in "Green and Gold" (and in all of his child appearances in Seasons 1 and 2), he has black eyes because his eyes became green after Season 7 of the original series.[1]
    • It is also unknown as to why Lloyd is wearing his Legacy Suit, as there was no known time in the events of when he was training as a child in which he wore that outfit.
    • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, the reason for the changes is because it is Lloyd's subjective memory.[2]
  • While eavesdropping on Beatrix and Dr. LaRow, Arin and Sora were linking arms when they were actually holding hands beforehand.
    • Although it is possible they just re-adjusted positions of-frame and that's what caused Sora to slip.

Ice and Earth Dragon using Lighning

  • One Ice Dragon and one Earth Dragon are seen breathing Lightning alongside Jiro, while they are not supposed to have this Elemental Power.
  • It is unknown how Zane got his Merge suit since he wasn't discovered by the Ninja until this episode.
