The Devourer's bite was an event planned by the Overlord where Garmadon was bitten by the Great Devourer, which turned him evil.
History[]
One day, the two brothers were sparring and Wu's katana was accidentally knocked over the wall of the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Despite his father's warnings to stay within the safety of the monastery, Garmadon said Wu not to put off what can be done today and decided to get it himself.[1]
While Garmadon told this to Wu, behind the walls of the monastery teen Wu was fighting the Time Twins, who traveled through time. When Acronix noticed that Wu had thrown the katana over the wall of the monastery, he immediately ran to it so he could change the past. However, Wu stopped him and told him that although he would very much like to change this moment, he could not do so. Then they disappeared.[2]
Then, Garmadon jumped over the wall, but before he could pick the katana up, he was bitten by a strange green snake and passed out. Garmadon was ill for a time, tended to by his father and brother.[1] Unbeknownst to anyone at the time, Garmadon had been bitten by the Great Devourer, a pawn of his father's ancient enemy, the Overlord,[3] infecting the boy's very being with pure evil and awakening an undying thirst to destroy. As a result, Garmadon momentarily became violent and selfish, blaming Wu for his change and telling his father that he hated him.[1]
