“There's... a way back... but I need to... drain away my powers before I... lose my shape!”
Nya struggling to inform the ninja

The Shape of Nya is the third episode of the fifteenth season of Ninjago and the 183rd episode overall. It aired on May 20, 2022 on LEGO's YouTube channel.

Synopsis

The ninjas' investigation into the vengestone smuggling mission leads them to an abandoned subway line — where they run into the New Ninja.[1]

Extended: The Ninjas investigate the vengestone operation, but Miss Demeanor gets the drop on them - after a humiliating rescue by the New Ninjas, the Ninjas return home and fight each other. Nya manifests her water-form from a spilled glass of water and asks the Ninjas for help draining her elemental powers - against Master Wu's wishes, they plan on asking old foe Aspheera for help.[2]

LEGO's YouTube channel: Jay and the other Ninja are still saddened by their lost friend and track down Miss Demeanor's next shipment of Vengestone. After their battle with Miss Demeanor is interrupted by the New Ninja, Nya warns the team that she can only return if she gives up her powers!

Can Jay and the others work with the New Ninja to stop Miss Demeanor's plan? Will they find a way to bring Nya back from the sea?[3]

Plot

At the hangar bay, Cole pondered how so much Vengestone could be moved without any detection. Zane claimed the Vengestone has to be moving underground, but Lloyd claimed the Serpentine would know about it. Cole decided to start over with what they knew which frustrated Kai since they've been searching for hours. The ninja asked Jay to see if he has any ideas, but he is still mourning Nya's loss by looking at glasses of water. Not focused on the task at hand, Kai shouted at Jay and asked if he could assist, and a grumpy Jay responded by saying he didn't know. The ninja weren't too happy with Jay's effort in finding the Vengestone, but Jay claimed they cannot work together due to not having Nya. Kai countered by accusing Jay of being useless which causes a near fight before Lloyd suggested a break. However, Jay claimed taking a break would also not work until he looked at a pizza box and came up with an idea.

The ninja headed to the end line of a subway track where they reached a brick wall. They tried to find any opening mechanisms, but were unable to find any. Suddenly, the ninja heard a sound come from one of the crates near the brick wall. Cole cautiously approached the create and after removing the tarp, he found an old man sleeping on Vengestone. He hopped out of the crate and asked for a signature from the ninja, but before they could ask any questions, they saw flames appear from behind.

The ninja looked back to discover Miss Demeanor and her henchmen. She was pleased to see the real ninja compared to the neon ninja she fought back at the docks. Kai attempted to use his powers, but to no avail after realizing he is surrounded by Vengestone which suppresses Elemental Powers. Seeing the ninja limited, Miss Demeanor ordered her gang to attack the ninja. While fighting, the ninja were greatly outmatched, showing a lack of chemistry and strength with Cole knocking Jay over with Spinjitzu, Lloyd nearly being hit by a henchman Zane was fighting, and Kai and Zane struggling to fend off "low-level thugs." Things got so bad that Miss Demeanor taunted the ninja's sloppy fighting and claimed the New Ninja she fought earlier were better.

As Miss Demeanor was teasing the ninja, the New Ninja arrived saying their famous punch line. Before they could finish, Miss Demeanor interrupted them and ordered her henchmen to attack the New Ninja instead. The ninja were upset the New Ninja were interfering, but that didn't stop the New Ninja from taking out the thugs and saving the ninja. The final blow was finally laid when the Teal Ninja used his super punch to defeat Miss Demeanor.

Above the ground, the ninja and New Ninja observed Miss Demeanor and her henchmen being escorted into police cars. The Police Commissioner proceeded to thank the ninja, and Lloyd thought they were being congratulated, but the Police Commissioner thanked the New Ninja instead. After the commissioner left, the ninja and New Ninja chatted where the Fuchsia Ninja revealed they were inspired by the ninja to protect the weak and calling the ninja "old-timers." This offended Kai, but the Teal Ninja doubled down by calling the ninja "out of shape." Lloyd claimed they helped track the villain, but the Teal Ninja informed Lloyd this was all part of their plan, but with the ninja interfering in their operations, they were unable to find the true villain. Right then, the Orange Ninja informed his team they had to hurry to be thanked by the mayor, so they left the scene using a smoke bomb.

Back at the hangar bay, Lloyd freaked out at the fear of being replaced by the New Ninja. The ninja tried to reassure Lloyd that they're not being replaced with Jay mentioning how the ninja are coping with the loss of Nya. Kai cuts in and called Jay crazy for speaking to glasses of water, but accidentally knocks over a glass of water. Jay was horrified as Kai tried to apologize, but Jay furiously kicked Kai. Releasing their anger, Jai and Kai prepared to fight each other. Zane tried to calm the two down, but to no avail as Kai launched a fireball at Jay. He was able to avoid the attack, but the fireball hit Cole's Rock Cycle and activated the sprinkler.

Suddenly, the spilled water started glowing and Nya appeared in her humanoid form with the water. Jay ran over to her and asked if they could do anything to save her. Nya, struggling to keep her shape, told the ninja they needed to drain her powers to return her to normal. Before Jay could react, Zane freezed her citing it was the only way to keep her form. Needing to take Nya's powers, Lloyd suggested freeing Aspheera, but Wu rejects the idea, saying she cannot be trusted. However, the rest of the ninja agreed with the plan, but Wu saying he will not be a part of it.
