The Weekend Whip (Chris Lord-Alge mix), also known as simply The Weekend Whip, is the original version of "The Weekend Whip," the theme song for Ninjago. It was used in the intro for the first two seasons and in the credits from "Way of the Ninja" to "The Forgotten Element."
Lyrics[]
It's time for training and we're getting started - it's on, you know
And we wanna see you whip and shout it - we rock, you roll
They say, go slow
And everything just stands so still
We say, go go!
We're ready for the fight, we know the drill
Monday morning and we feel defeated, seems so long ago
Tuesday's comin' we just keep on beatin'
'Til we're in our zone
They say, go slow
And everything just stands so still
We say, go go!
You're gonna see us rip into it
We just jump up kick back whip around and spin
And then we jump back, do it again
Ninja! Go! Ninja! Go!
Come on, come on - we're gonna do it again
We just jump up kick back whip around and spin
And then we jump back, do it again
Ninja! Go! Ninja! Go!
Come on, come on - and do the Weekend Whip
Wednesday mornin' and we soon discover we gotta push our game
We slept through Thursday just to get it over
The whip's a day away!
They say, go slow!
And everything just stands so still
We say, go go!
You're gonna see us rip into it
We just jump up kick back whip around and spin
And then we jump back, do it again
Ninja! Go! Ninja! Go!
Come on, come on - we're gonna do it again
We just jump up kick back whip around and spin
And then we jump back, do it again
Ninja! Go! Ninja! Go!
Come on, come on - and do the Weekend Whip
Yeah! Yeah!
They say, no no! but we don't wanna sit around no more
We say, go go!
You're gonna see us rip into it
We just jump up kick back whip around and spin
And then we jump back, do it again
(And then we jump back do it again)
Ninja! Go! Ninja! Go!
Come on, come on - we're gonna do it again
We just jump up kick back whip around and spin
And then we jump back, do it again
Ninja! Go! Ninja! Go!
Come on, come on - and do the Weekend Whip
Ninja! Go! Ninja! Go!
Come on, come on - and do the Weekend Whip
(Jump up kick back whip around and spin)
Trivia[]
- There are two demo versions of the original Weekend Whip. The first was a 2010 demo sung by music director, Jeppe Riddervold. His vocals would later be replaced with Daniel Castady's from The Fold, and would become the 2011 demo. The 2011 demo version would actually be used in the show itself, with it being used for the opening titles from Rise of the Snakes to The Snake King, and the end credits from Way of the Ninja to The Snake King. The final mix version, mixed by Chris Lord-Alge in 2011, would see Dan re-record his lines, with a similar tune to that of the original demos by The Fold itself.
- In the music video for the song, the members of The Fold wear red, blue, black, and white, referencing the ninja's elemental colors. The video also features a young boy wearing green, referencing young Lloyd.
- The Fold wear the same clothing when they sing this song in "Green Destiny."
- The ninja dance to this song at the Ninjago Talent show in "The Royal Blacksmiths" and sing and dance to it in "True Potential." Kai sings part of it in "Master Class" and Cole plays it in his Earth Driller and sings along to it in "The Weekend Drill."
- An instrumental version of the song is heard in "Tick Tock" while the song itself is also heard in "The Art of the Silent Fist," "The Invitation," and "The Hatching." Dareth listens to the song with headphones while guarding Harumi in "The Weakest Link" and a civilian in his car can briefly be heard listening to it in "Papergirl."
- In the Japanese version of "The Surge," Kai hums the song in the shower.[2]
- In The LEGO Ninjago Movie when Lord Garmadon calls Lloyd on his phone, his ringtone is The Weekend Whip.
- Since Lloyd was a part of the Season 2 intro, the song had to be slightly slowed down.
- This song, along with "Ten for Ninjago" and "We Are Ninjago," is one of the only songs to also be officially released in another language, that being German.[3][4][5]
