The Wolf Clan (also known as the Army of the Five[2] and the Wolf Mask Army[3]) was a cult[4] formed millennia ago by the Forbidden Five from their followers with a wolf as its symbol. The Wolf Mask Warriors served as the army for the Five during their conquest of the Wyldness. They were reassembled by Lord Ras to aid him in his grand scheme to dominate the Source Dragons on behalf of his master. The first phase of their mission involved performing the Ritual of the Blood Moon to liberate the Forbidden Five. However, they only managed to free Nokt, while the soul of Rox possessed Jordana.
Months later, the Elemental Masters of the Wolf Clan competed in the Tournament of the Sources as part of Ras' plan, planning to win to gather enough Elemental Powers to create Source Dragon Icons. During the tournament's victory ceremony, Nokt and Rox revealed their true reasons for participating in the tournament, turning against Ras and corrupting the Wolf mask army, which they sent to attack Ras and the Elemental Masters. The Wolf Clan were eventually defeated by the Elemental Masters and the ninja, with Cinder and the Wolf Mask Warriors being imprisoned, the Forbidden Five escaping, and Ras and Arin ending up in the First Land.
History[]
Background[]
In ancient times within the Wyldness, the Wolf Clan emerged as an alliance of warriors with a wolf as its symbol, formed and guided by a group of Elemental Masters known as the Forbidden Five. The clan members drew their powers from a mysterious corrupted energy discovered by the Five, who shared it with those who excelled in their teachings by granting them a Wolf Mask forged by Rox. When activated by the Gong of Shattering, these mystical masks amplified the physical powers of their users and allowed them to tap into the unique abilities and techniques of their mentors. Among these warriors, Lord Argus stood out as the most formidable, possessing neither a Wolf Mask nor the title of Elemental Master, yet demonstrating unwavering loyalty to the Forbidden Five and achieving complete mastery of Shatterspin. The Wolf Clan was once revered as a powerful and noble group during a prosperous era.[5] However, the very powers that elevated the clan led to their downfall, as they became tainted, losing the goodness within their hearts.[6] The wolf warriors turned into agents of chaos, assisting the Forbidden Five in unleashing destruction across the Wyldness, mercilessly eliminating anyone who opposed them, which aligned with the Forbidden Five's vision of domination.[2]
The Wolf Clan devised a plan to invade other realms and cause chaos, which would ultimately lead to their destruction,[7] as the Dragon Masters intervened and exiled the Forbidden Five to the Nether-Space.[2]
With their leaders gone, Argus took charge of the Wolf Clan, striving to guide the wolf warriors in the same manner as the Forbidden Five. During his efforts to achieve the full level of Shatterspin, Argus was tricked by Zaiden Kane, who convinced him that he had the potential to become the sixth member of the Forbidden Five. When Argus struck the Gong of Shattering, it unleashed a curse upon the Wyldness, trapping it in a state of half-existence and leading to the downfall of the Wolf Clan. Argus was transformed into the Lycan King in the process and he turned the wolf warriors to stone. However, some wolf warriors managed to escape petrification, allowing their bloodline to survive and give rise to the Children of the Wolf.[5]
In the days leading to the Serpentine War, Garmadon made his way to the Wyldness in search of the powers of the Five. In his travels, Garmadon encountered the spirits of the Wolf Warriors who had been petrified by the Lycan King and were now condemned to a state of half-death. The spirits taught Garmadon their history and the ways of Shatterspin, though in exchange, he would pass on these teachings to the Children of the Wolf. Ultimately, Garmadon upheld his end of the bargain and was able to successfully instruct the children, working alongside them to defeat the Lycan King and end the curse that had been set upon the Wyldness, restoring the Wolf Warriors to life. With a new leash on life, the Wolf Clan rallied behind Zuri as their new leader and bestowed the Mallet of Shattering to Garmadon, imploring for him to take it back to Ninjago and as far from the Wyldness as possible. As for the Clan, they decided to rebuild elsewhere, far away from their dark history as conquerors and from the shadows of the Forbidden Five.
Dragons Rising, Season 2[]
Recruiting Jordana, Ras used the Source Dragon energy to open the Shadow Dojo. He sent Cinder to find the Mallet of Shattering. Once Cinder got the mallet, Ras assembled his own faction of the Wolf Clan.[8] The reassembled Wolf Clan infiltrated the Cloud Kingdom in order to obtain the necessary information for the Ritual of the Blood Moon and make the Writers of Destiny translate the Theroxian texts. When the Ninja arrived, Ras showed them the power of Shatterspin, which forced them to retreat.[9][10] While helping Cinder practice Shatterspin and Jordana use Theroxian magic, Ras' master contacted him and instructed him to use five Cloud monks as a sacrifice for the Ritual.[11] Once the Wolf Clan got what they needed, Ras ordered them to execute the Writers of Destiny and set the Cloud Kingdom to crash. As they gathered to perform the ritual, Ras managed to obtain the spell needed to free the Forbidden Five.[10] However, the Ninja arrived and managed to use Rising Dragon, freeing the five monks. As a result, Ras used Kai as a sacrifice and only managed to free Nokt. However unknown to Ras or the Ninja, Rox's soul managed to escape and possess Jordana right before Bonzle closed the portal, while the other three were left in the Nether-Space.
After Ras' master transported the Wolf Clan to an unknown open field, Ras placed a control device on Nokt to ensure his loyalty. Ras then spoke to his master and assured them that they will continue on with the plan by partaking in the Tournament of the Sources to get to the Source Dragons and conquer the realms using their dragon energy that his master wished to wield.[12] Ras then recruited Jay and Frak as replacements for the Forbidden Five in order to win the Tournament.[13] But before the Tournament however, Nokt and Rox had secretly hunted Arc Dragons to obtain their Dragon Ivory crowns so they can release the rest of the Five. Once Nokt obtained all of the Elemental Powers and was free from the control device, the siblings betrayed Ras by using Rox's Dark Magic to turn the Wolf warriors and Cinder to their side.[2] After losing all of the Elemental Powers, the Forbidden Five retreated to one of the portal gates, with Nokt dragging Ras to take his revenge, followed by Arin. As the Forbidden Five destroyed the portal gate, they, alongside Ras and Arin, were stranded in an unknown realm. The Wolf Clan was defeated thanks to the Elemental Masters and imprisoned with Bleckt in Vengestone cages.[14]
Symbol[]
The symbol of the Wolf Clan resembles a light blue wolf-like ouroboros outlined in dark purple.
In the Tournament of the Sources, their emblem was red and grey, potentially representing the Blood Moon or highlighting their strong connection to the clan's Chaos powers, which is often associated with the color red.

Trivia[]
- The term Wolf Clan was not actually used in the show. Instead, the episode descriptions called them the Wolf Mask Army, and within the episodes, they were identified as the Army of the Five or just Ras' team. The only time where they were mentioned as the Wolf Clan is in Shatterspin.
- They are the seventh villainous faction to consist mainly of humans, following the Anacondrai Cultists, the Sky Pirates, the Sons of Garmadon, the henchmen, the Kryptarium inmates, and the Claws of Imperium.
- When asked what the idea behind the Wolf Mask Army was, Chris "Doc" Wyatt said, "To destroy all enemies."[15]
- It is possible that there are currently two branches of the Wolf Clan, one reassembled by Ras weeks before the Ritual of the Blood Moon (which is mostly dissolved), and one led by Zuri that live elsewhere in the Wyldness and haven't strived for conquest and violence for fifty years.[16]
- The reason the Wolf Clan honors wolves is because its founders, the Forbidden Five, were all originally supposed to be anthropomorphic wolves. The leaders of the Five, Rox and Nokt, including Zarkt, stayed as wolves in the final concept.[17]
