The Wolf Masks are accessories forged by Rox that are imbued with dark energy[1] and worn by the Wolf Clan to channel and enhance the abilities of their user. When wearing the mask in the presence of the Gong of Shattering, users can tap into a supercharged state. Additionally, the Wolf Masks give Elemental Masters the ability to execute Shatterspin as it transforms into armor.
History[]
Background[]
Upon the Forbidden Five's discovery of dark energy, Rox decided to channel it into the Wolf Masks when she created them. This allowed those who donned the masks to tap into the potential of the energy, granting them powers influenced by it.[2][1] Once wolf warriors mastered their skills, they receive a Wolf Mask and become Wolf Mask Warriors.[3] However, the corruptive properties of the dark energy posed a risk; each time the Gong of Shattering was struck, the masks not only amplified the physical abilities of the warriors but also shattered the goodness within them. After the Five's exile, the remaining Wolf Masks were contained in the Shadow Dojo, which was sealed off by Dragon Masters Egalt and Rontu millennia ago.[4]
The Blood Moon[]
When Ras and Jordana unlock the Shadow Dojo, Jordana spots a lot of Wolf Masks around the Gong. Ras holds one up and announced that once the Blood Moon returns, the most formidable beings in the Merged Realms would be brought together once more.
Shattered Dreams[]
The Wolf Masks were worn by the Wolf Clan when they invaded the Cloud Kingdom.
When the ninja fight the Wolf Clan in Cloud Kingdom, Ras hits the gong repeatedly, first to activate the Wolf Mask Claw Warriors and then to showcase Cinder's Shatterspin.
Beyond the Phantasm Cave[]
When Cinder practices Shatterspin, he puts on a Wolf Mask while Ras uses the Mallet to activate the Gong.
Force From the East[]
While attacking the Finders, Ras forces a Cloud Monk to use the mallet on the gong, transforming the Wolf Mask Warriors in the Land of Lost Things into Wolf Mask Claw Warriors.
The Forest of Spirits[]
After three Wolf Hunters were knocked out cold, Kai, Sora, and Wyldfyre steal their masks and uniforms as disguises to infiltrate the ritual.
Rising Ninja[]
When they attempted to rescue Euphrasia and the Cloud Monks, Kai, Sora, and Wyldfyre were nearly corrupted by their Wolf Masks when the gong was struck, but Wyldfyre was able to melt them off, inadvertently blowing their cover. When Cinder tried to put his on, the ninja try to keep him from doing so, until Wyldfyre melted it, but he simply grabs another from a warrior.
Inside the Maze[]
During his fight with Nya in the Tournament of the Sources, Jay puts on a Wolf Mask to access Shatterspin.
United We Fall[]
When Cinder faced Wyldfyre in the Tournament, he puts on a Wolf Mask to use Shatterspin.
Truth and Lies[]
When Cinder got trapped in a cage created by Sora during their duel, he donned a Wolf Mask to use Shatterspin to break out.
Clues and Suspects[]
When Frak fought Sora in the Tournament, he pulled out a Wolf Mask but finally decided to heed Arin's warning and not use the mask despite his master's orders before throwing it away.
The Final Game[]
Upon discovering Nokt and Rox's treachery, Ras called upon Cinder and the wolf warriors to confront them. Yet, Rox informed Ras that he had misjudged the Wolf Masks. To demonstrate her point, Rox took control of all the Wolf Masks Warriors, including Cinder, unlocking their full potential by showcasing the true power of the Wolf Masks.
Elements of Betrayal[]
The corrupted Wolf Masks Warriors continue to wear the Wolf Masks. Once defeated, they were all imprisoned in Vengestone cages.
Other appearances[]
The Blood Moon[]
Lloyd had a lot of visions of some Wolf Mask Warriors with their Wolf Masks on and when he went to help Arin and Sora, he realized his visions were real.
Appearance[]
The Wolf Masks are dark blue masks with pale blue facial features resembling a wolf's head and can glow. They also have the symbol of the Blood Moon, though not in the sets. When corrupted by Rox's magic, they take on a purple and red scheme.
Abilities[]
- Physical Enhancement - In certain circumstances, the Wolf Masks can glow bright blue and shatter a person’s goodness in their soul when the Gong of Shattering is hit by the Mallet of Shattering in order to grant the Wolf Hunters enhanced physical powers by supercharging them into the Wolf Mask Claw Warriors, where they manifest claw gauntlets strong enough to tear apart even fused objects. However, the mallet has to hit the gong every few seconds to continue the empowerment since it can leave the wearers powerless when not doing so.
- Shatterspin accessibility - Elemental Masters who wear the Wolf Masks can access Shatterspin, with the masks turning red and transforming into special armor.
- Fire Resistance - As seen in "Rising Ninja", Wolf Hunters who become Wolf Mask Claw Warriors when wearing Wolf Masks are shown to be resistant to fire attacks.
- Energy claws - Wearing a Wolf Mask enables users to enter an energized state where they can create energy claws from their backs. Unlike abilities that require the Gong of Shattering, such as Shatterspin, this power does not need the gong but can be enhanced by Rox herself.[5][6]
Weaknesses[]
- Heat - Although the Wolf Masks have a great resistance to fire, they cannot withstand a direct heat attack, as Wyldfyre was able to melt them off, including Cinder's.[7]
- Corruption Risk - When the Wolf Masks are used, they shatter the wearers' goodness, leaving them at the risk of corruption.
