The Writers of Destiny (also known as the Cloud Monks) are the monks that reside in the Cloud Kingdom.
History[]
Background[]
The monks of the Cloud Kingdom became the Writers of Destiny, subtly influencing events across different realms while providing guidance instead of dictating individual fates. Approximately 10,000 years before the ghost invasion, Fenwick and his brother Quanish ruled the Cloud Kingdom. Fenwick was convinced that controlling the destinies of the realms' inhabitants was essential, whereas Quanish advocated for personal freedom, which ultimately led to Quanish's exile to Ninjago. Prior to the ninja's arrival, Fenwick made a deal with the Preeminent by agreeing to change Morro's destiny in exchange for his own life to be spared.
Season 5: Possession[]
Kingdom Come[]
Fenwick came to the ninja as they tried to find the Sword of Sanctuary. He revealed that he and most of the monks at Cloud Kingdom are capable of deciding the fate of others with their scriptures. One of the monks was writing about Dareth. But before he could finish, Jay accidentally spilled the writer's ink jar, resulting in Dareth crashing into a concrete truck.
Nobu soon learned that Fenwick was working with the Ghost Warriors to have his life spared in case the Preeminent's plan to curse the Sixteen Realms succeeded. To stop him, Nobu briefly helped the ninja as he made Nimbus go after Fenwick.
Curseworld, Part II[]
Nobu saw Lloyd and Morro fighting over the Realm Crystal as the two travel across most of the realms, including Cloud Kingdom. A monk then told Nobu that they shouldn't intervene.
Dragons Rising, Season 1[]
Writers of Destiny[]
The writers return due to the Merge fusing the Cloud Kingdom with the other realms; it also led to one of its writers, Euphrasia to become the new Elemental Master of Wind, keeping her powers hidden.
The Administration[]
Sub-Agent Prentis believed that the Cursed Realm was the native land of the Writers of Destiny, and thus, he sent two of them there when they became lost in the Nothing Space.
Dragons Rising, Season 2[]
The revelation of Euphrasia as the Master of Wind brought a significant shift in the understanding of the Writers of Destiny, highlighting the profound impact that their actions could have on the world around them. However, before they could implement the necessary changes within their realm, the Wolf Clan launched an assault on the Writers. This attack forced the Writers of Destiny into a reluctant servitude, compelling them to translate ancient Theroxian texts for weeks under duress. As the situation escalated, Ras, acting on orders from his master, demanded a grim sacrifice of five members from the Writers, including Euphrasia and Suetonius, who were to take the place of the Forbidden Five in the Nether-Space.
As the Writers of Destiny completed their translations, Ras commanded Cinder to annihilate the Cloud Kingdom along with the remaining Cloud Monks. Meanwhile, the five selected Writers were taken to the Shadow Dojo, where they were to be readied for the impending Blood Moon Ritual at the Forest of Spirits. Just as the sacrificial ceremony was on the verge of commencing, the ninja intervened, successfully rescuing the five monks from their fate. In a parallel effort, Cole, Zane, and Gandalaria worked together to prevent the destruction of the Cloud Kingdom, unknowingly receiving help from Euphrasia.
At some point after the battle, Euphrasia received an invite to the Tournament of the Sources.
After the Tournament of the Sources, Cole visited the Cloud Monks who told him that no one came out of their portal gate.

Trivia[]
- When asked if the Writers of Destiny are controlled by someone else, Tommy Andreasen responded, "You should get such information from the show if it is relevant."[1]
- However, it was shown in "Kingdom Come" that the writers can change each other's destinies, as Nobu changed Fenwick's destiny to have Nimbus chase after him.
- While all the Writers of Destiny wear hoods in Dragons Rising, several Cloud Monks are shown having a different design and not wearing hoods.
- According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, the truth of whether the Writers of Destiny can truly control destiny or if it's just a coincidence, as the ninja believe, might lie somewhere in the middle. He claimed that the writers have some influence over events, but not to the extent they believe they do.[2]
