- This article is about the character in the Shatterspin comic series. For the Devonian with a similar name, see Zur.
Zuri is the leader of the Children of the Wolf, known for her serious demeanor. Alongside her friends, she becomes a student of Garmadon, training to combat the Lycan King. She took control over the Wolf Clan following Asa's sacrifice which ended the curse of Argus.
History[]
The Wyldness[]
Zuri, along with Balun, Warby and Iriel, looked at the bones of an animal and discussed their next meal. Asa found Zuri, along with the other children, and she asked him about his missing hair. Zuri and the others watched him perform a series of actions that explained what happened to it,
Later, Zuri and the other children stood outside the Shadow Dojo, questioning how its doors opened. Then, they saw Garmadon fly through the walls of the dojo. Thinking he had rung the gong and knowing the Lycan King would have heard it, they tried to find Garmadon. They later found him lying on the ground, unconscious. Warby tried to wake Garmadon up by slapping him multiple times, but Zuri told him to stop. Just then, the Lycan King stared down at the children.
The Lycan King[]
After the Lycan King tried to attack Asa, Zuri tried to slow it down using a slingshot. Zuri, along with the other children, tried to run away from the Lycan King. The children and Garmadon later emerged from the rubble caused by another one of the Lycan King's attacks and realized they were trapped. She watched as Garmadon threw the Mallet of Shattering to no avail. After the Lycan King got ready to howl, Zuri stood in confusion and awe when Garmadon managed to perform Shatterspin. The Lycan King howled and the children and Garmadon dodged the attack. They all got onto the children's boat and sailed away.
On the boat, Iriel told Garmadon about Zuri, but the latter reminded the former that Garmadon was their prisoner, and they should not be so friendly to him. When they arrived, Zuri called out to Mama Mawa and the latter was delighted to see the children. Zuri explained that Garmadon unsealed the Shadow Dojo and showed Mawa the Mallet of Shattering. They all went inside her house to discuss further.
Inside, the children had soup while Mama Mawa and Garmadon talked. When Garmadon asked what caused the realm's devastation, Zuri asked Mawa if they could trust him to which the latter responded, saying she believed so. Zuri listened as Mama Mawa explained how the Forbidden Five used to rule the Wyldness and lead the Wolf Clan. When Gamadon realized someone had rung the gong in the past, he asked who had done it and Zuri responded, saying someone unworthy had done so. Zuri listened to Mama Mawa as she told the story of Lord Argus. After she told the story, Mama Mawa said that the five children, one of whom was Zuri, were the last children of the wolf. She explained that only the children could defeat the Lycan King, but they needed to learn the ways of their ancestors. Mama Mawa told Garmadon he would be their teacher.
Masters and Students[]
Over a week later, Zuri watched from her vantage point in a tree as Garmadon practiced his abilities over Shatterspin. Surprised to see that the stranger could actually perform the art, Zuri began copying his movements, but instead fell out of the tree instead. Garmadon then angrily reprimanded her, demanding to know why she had been spying on him, though Zuri answered by pointing out that although Garmadon had been appointed as her, and her friends', new teacher, he hadn't taught them anything yet. This led to a verbal dispute between Garmadon and Zuri which ended when Garmadon stormed off to find some peace and quiet, declaring that he would teach when he has something to teach.
Later that night, Zuri and her friends sang and danced around a campfire when Garmadon approached them and declared that their training would all begin tomorrow morning. The next morning, Zuri and her friends were lined up before Garmadon who then instructed them to refer to him by his title of "lord." Garmadon then pitted the children through a series of tests, where after the failure of each, he would reprimand the children by ordering the to perform one-thousand pushups each time. After they had made some "acceptable" progress, Garmadon felt it was time to teach them the first moves of Shatterspin. Lining them up together, Garmadon demonstrated the power against a nearby boulder and ordered each child, one at a time, to step up and repeat his actions. When it was Zuri's turn, she stepped forward to the stone and struck it just as Garmadon had shown, successfully achieving Shatterspin as she blew apart a hole into the boulder! Zuri's friends then cheered her on, congratulating her for being the first amongst them to learn the technique!
Later that night, Zuri and the others celebrated around their campfire with song and dance, even joining in on teasing Iriel with another one-thousand pushups after she forgot to address Garmadon as "lord."
Destinies[]
Zuri led the Children of the Wolf in their final test. As they all stalked Garmadon through a swamp, aiming to retrieve the cloth he had tied onto the Mallet of Shattering, Zuri hid amongst the trees as her friends all revealed themselves to Garmadon one by one. When he was distracted with Balun, Zuri leapt out of her hiding place in ambush, though her master had spotted her deception and managed to evade her attack. When Garmadon complimented her on being close, Zuri smiled and revealed that this plan was only Plan A; there still was a Plan B! With that, Zuri and her friends each shattered a nearby tree, snapping their trunks to fall inwards onto Garmadon.
While he was distracted with the falling trees, Zuri and her friends all pounced atop him in an effort to snatch the cloth, though Garmadon knocked all of them back as well with the Mallet of Shattering. In the chaos however, Iriel had managed to snatch the cloth off the mallet's handle, successfully completing the test! After Garmadon conceded their victory, Zuri and the others hoisted Iriel into the air in victory.
At sundown, when the group began to make final preparations before beginning their search for the Lycan King, Zuri went back to look for her master. Spotting Garmadon seemingly speaking to thin air, Zuri approached him and asked if he were alright, though Garmadon dismissed her concerns. After rejoining the others, Zuri asked her master of what plans he had in store once they defeated the Lycan King, learning to her dismay that he intended to return to Ninjago. When Garmadon offered for Zuri and the others to return to Ninjago alongside him, the young girl was shocked by his offer, exclaiming in disbelief that she hadn't even been sure if Garmadon even liked her or the others up to this point. Before Garmadon could admit he was proud of Zuri and the others, an exhausted Buck Buck emerged from the forest and collapsed before the group. Zuri then frantically ran off to fetch a bowl of water for the tired chicken as he revealed that Asa had been taken by the Lycan King!
Homecoming[]
Journeying to the flooded and ruined city of Lupindor in search of Asa, Zuri rowed the group's skiff throughout the city until they reached the Hall of Wolves. As they sailed, Zuri remarked that rumors had it that the eaves of the ruined city were still haunted by the spirits of the Wolf Clan's fallen soldiers, a comment that Garmadon affirmed under his breath. After finally arriving outside of the Hall of Wolves, Zuri expressed her desire and eagerness to fight the Lycan King, though Garmadon ordered her and the others not to engage in battle. As soon as Garmadon was out of earshot however, Zuri told her friends to split up and take positions across various vantage points in the ruined hall just in case an opportunity to strike at the Lycan King's Runes of Binding presented itself.
When Garmadon fought against the Lycan King, Mama Mawa urged Zuri to take action now while the lycanthrope was distracted with Garmadon. Heeding her elder's words, Zuri ordered her friends to attack as she and the others unleashed their Shatterspin attacks upon the Runes of Binding. Although Zuri immediately proclaimed victory, it would soon be revealed that victory was still too premature; the children's timing had been off and they had failed to destroy the runes! At that moment, the Lycan King unleashed a petrifying howl at Asa and Mama Mawa, alarming Zuri and the others who immediately sprang into action, using their bodies as shields to prevent their youngest friend from being turned to stone. This gracious action however would turn Zuri and the her friends into stone statues themselves. Fortunately however, she and all the others who had been petrified were all restored to normal after Asa sacrificed himself to destroy the Spectral Crown.
Making their way to the Shadow Dojo, Zuri, her friends, and the now restored Wolf Mask Warriors, gathered inside the chamber that held the Gong of Shattering where Garmadon stood alone. Embracing her master in a tight hug, Zuri exclaimed that Argus' curse must have been lifted following his defeat. She then asked her master about Asa's whereabouts, though her master's sudden glum expression was enough to tell her the answer. Zuri then fell to her knees and covered her face with her hands as she wept in despair, mourning the death of her young friend.
Eventually, the day came to bid farewell to Garmadon. Gathering at the pool by the Stone Wolves, Zuri informed her master that Buck Buck felt he should stay here with them, though Garmadon sadly affirmed his inability to remain. Zuri then hugged Garmadon as he expressed his pride in his students and how much he would miss the qualities that made them all unique, noting Zuri's courage in particular. After breaking up the hug, one of the Wolf Mask Warriors informed Garmadon that the Wolf Clan intended to rebuild far away from here under the guidance of Zuri as their new leader. Garmadon then turned once more to Zuri, bringing up the topic of Asa's sacrifice, though Zuri stopped him. With tears forming in her eyes, Zuri admitted that she was beginning to accept his loss, though she and the others would never forget what he had done and would always remember him in their hearts. Zuri and the others would then say their final goodbyes to Garmadon as he dove into the pool and returned back to Ninjago.
